I have been taking the 7 train to Queens College to teach every week, and it is just miraculous on how much progress is being made on the field. I hope I can find a way to get tickets next year.

tickets will be available to anyone. just make sure you have your credit card handy. expect between 2 and 3x face value at the least. for the early games. and who knows for the special games (Opening Day, Yankees, Phillies). playoffs, all-star game in 2011? it’ll be expensive, but they will be out there.

I hope that left field wall is going to be very heavily padded…looks like it’s solid concrete… on another thought, are we to expect the word “citi” pasted 25 times across the outfield wall or will they go without the corporate on the wall and with some cool Mets design?? Thoughts?

      made?

apparently we cant submit articles anymore, but here is a link to the SI cover story…a Santana piece by ex beat writer Lee Jenkins…The picture at the top of it makes me smile

    citi field with a dome?

those pics of the original scrapped ideas are very interesting.

they give a different perspective of we could’ve been seeing next year.

I for one am glad they decided against a dome.

May be I’m a little lost here, but when looking at those pictures it looks like there will be no foul ground in the deep corners in Citi…that sounds very odd and bizarre to me…anyone know how much foul ground will be left deep along the lines – where the stands take a sharp angle toward the field? Seems like none…that would really impact our outfielder’s chances of running down balls over there…

  3. CaseStreet says:

Can someone please confirm whether the promenade will: a) allow you to see the game (like the viewing platform off the 7-train), and b) access to the promenade will be free? I forget where I read, but Wilpon commented that the 10K seats that are lost at CitiField were only used during 8 games in the season and that the promenade would replace those seats. Tnx.

    • tfc3rid says:

There will be 2500 standing room only tickets every game… These I believe will be for concourse and promenade viewing…

But it is not possible to ‘make up’ the number of lost seats…

    • gipper913 says:

The “Concourse” level is simply the area where all the vendors/bathrooms are at the top of the field level. Walking around it provides views of the field and you can walk around the whole stadium on that level, inlcuding to the outfield/bullpen areas. Is a cool feature common to many newer ballparks.

The “Promenade” level is actually the Upper deck. It is the concession area between the upper upper deck and the lower upper deck boxes. it too allows a view of the action.

You can get a better idea if you look on Mets.com and the renderings of people walking along the concession area with a view of the field (same views in the computer animation of the field narrated by G. Cohen).

This feature is common in the modern stadiums. Since moving to the West Coast, I have been to Mets games at Petco, Sfaeco and Bank One Ballpark/Chase field. They all have concession areas where you can see the field as you are walking to the beer or hot dog stand. AZ and Seattle are better than Petco’s and allow you to walk around the entire ballpark with a view of the field.

That is SUCH an improvement over places like Shea where there is concrete most of the way around, with just a few doors/entrances to the field boxes.

As for cost? I dunno. Most seats at Citi, I believe are on the field level. Certainly, you’d have access during BP even if have tix for uppder deck. At the neweer stadia I mentione,d they do not check for field level seats before letting you on the main concourse level….only when you head down toward the seats. As you know, at Shea, after BP, they keep the riffraff away from the field level concession area for fear of seat poachers.

One thing you’ll have to get used to ius, without the true “box steats” like at Shea, but rather just long rows of seats like at Citi….the usheres will wisely not allow you to head back to your seat from the concession area until there is a break in play (between half innings) as getting to you seat means a whole row of a dozen people potentially having to stand up (like getting into a seat mid row in a movie theater.

      • tfc3rid says:

Yes, I love the way the new ballparks allow you access to walking all around the yard… I assume in 2009 I will be doing this at Citi for a game… Checking the place out…

Of course, if the ushers are instructed to act like they do at Shea, it will lessen that experience…

      • gipper913i says:

im going to have to completely disagree

    • Charlie says:

No way there were only eight sellouts all season. NO WAY. I can’t believe that.

      • sundaysection15 says:

i agree with you Charlie, opening day and the three subway series games and theres 4 already. add in the final game of the season when it was on the line, thats 5 and i went to at least 2 sunday afternoon sellouts with the sunday ticket plan i had. gotta assume there was more than one more…

I just realized looking at the drawings of Citi Field on stadiumpage.com that the Jackie Robinson Rotunda has two different designs. One has it with just the two escalators in the middle side by side and the other has the two escalators with an elevator in the middle. i wonder which was the final design

    • The first image on the page is the current one. The other was from before they named it after Robinson.

    • MudvilleNine says:

The one without. If you’ve seen any of the pics of the inside of the rotunda you can see a cutout for the two escalators at the top level. There’s no room for an elevator between them.

  5. sethman says:

As someone exiled to the west coast, my goal in life is to see 1 more game at Shea. I grew up watching the Mets at Shea Stadium, and while I realize much of its history was unremarkable, it’s Mets history nonetheless. I’ll be sorry to see it demolished, even though I realize that Citi is a vast improvement. I hope I can make it there one last time, if not — MLB Extra Innings will have to suffice!

    • zer09 says:

Nothing can replace the roar of the crowd last year’s opening day after JR bobbled the ball. It was truly something. By far, the loudest cheering I ever heard in a stadium…the loudest cheering I ever heard was downtown at the Giants parade…

  6. Moses69 says:

I don’t think Chavez’ is going to be able to be superman over that Left Field Wall lol.

    • gipper913i says:

You can’t speculate about whether he will get over the wall at this time. He may develop new special powers.

How about through the wall — K.M. style.

What is happening with the chop shops?

  9. Philnym31 says:

I remember reading a while ago about how Kenny Lofton might have been of interest to the Mets as an extra outfielder. Has anyone heard anything about this since then? He still is unsigned, and I was thinking maybe the Mets could bring him to camp on a minor league deal. I know the Mets now have Brady Clark and Angel Pagan as insurance, but Lofton probably would be the best of that bunch. If Alou goes down and Endy takes over in left field, having someone reliable like Lofton around could prove to be a worthwhile addition.

    • The Oracle says:

In that situation, I foresee Lofton taking over full-time for the injured Alou and Chavez remaining in the backup role. That is where he is most effective.

  10. GeorgeThomas says:

Awesome pics on the Stadium Page site! I’m worried about something I saw though. In the 5th picture down from the top, please tell me that’s NOT a pedestal of some kind for the friggin’ apple hat.

    • MetsWrightNow says:

Guess you missed a post or 2 last week. That’s exactly what it’s for. I personally don’t see the big deal, but 2 each his own.

      • GeorgeThomas says:

Yeah, I guess I missed that. Sorry.

I personally can’t stand the magic hat/apple. Never could, even when they first installed it to coincide with the lame “The Magic Is Back” promo campaign in 1980. Are they at least putting in a new hat/apple, or are they importing the one from Shea that looks like it’s falling apart?

  11. stickguy says:

Getting rid of the segregated seating will be a nice thing. Just because you had to get upper tier seats doesn’t mean you don’t want some of the food only found on the lower level!

SR is also fine. When I go to CBP to see the mets, I get the cheapest seats I can (if not SR, which you can’t get in advance, then upper deck jobs). Then I never even bother to go find them. You can watch the whole came from different rail vantage points, or spend time in the bar (patio seating) in CF.
