Buzz: Go Slow, Mo
By Matthew Cerrone - Feb 20, 2008 8:22 am

Moises Alou was expected to arrive in Port St. Lucie last night, and should appear in camp this morning just in time for the team’s first day of full-squad workouts.

any day he is not on the field, is a day he can’t hurt himself and be removed from the field…so, go slow, mo…go slow

Alou is expected to speak with reporters later in the day.

Moises, just try to relax for real…Guy can flat out hit, just cant stay healthy!

I saw were Shannon Stewart was still out there. He would be a perfect fit for this team. Hits RH with some pop and average. He could spell Alou or Church. Also, it is possible that he could hold down the fort next season until Fmart is ready.
Endy, Stewart, Easley, Anderson, and Castro would be a very good bench.

His stats were very similar to Church’s last year except that Stewart hit leadoff for the A’s thus had less RBI’s.

Stewart plays dreadful D though, not sure he’s a guy we want to be trotting out there late in games…at least Lofton can hit and still field a little.

      • MutantGupee says:

Not really. Stewart ranked 7th best in defense at his position according to the Fielding Bible. The only knocks on him are his stark lack of power, and his Juan Pierre like noodle arm.

        • therealsince86 says:

He is replacing Alou on games he can’t go or giving Church a night off. Remember that Church can play CF so you could move him to CF and Stewart can play RF to give Beltran time off too. That free’s up Endy to be the defensive replacement late in the game.

Lofton is LH, I like him but we have no need for him with Endy.

    • QnsNative718 says:

Stewart is a good offensive pickup but his arm is as bad as the kid in The Sandlot… I think the name of the game for Willie and company is defense…

Although Stewart is formidable and in most circumstances would be a good addition, I believe i read somewhere (Daily News?) that Gotay is out of options and therefore if hes not on the 25 man they cant send him down without clearing waivers. I agree that having someone with a little more power on the bench is desireable, but with Castillo’s health we may need Gotay to fill in chunks of games at a time.

Not to mention, if we put Stewart on the Bench that would most likely cut even more into the limited playing time for Endy.

I wonder why Alou hasn’t shown yet. I thought yesterday was the deadline, i had a creeping suspicion all day yesterday that something was wrong. Hopefully he is ok, and is just taking his time getting to camp!

He is 42, and likely in his last year. I doubt he feels much urgency to show up early to prove himself!

he should do what some of the Football vets do (Strahan anyone?) and sit out the preseason, and just come in for th elast week or so to get his timing down!

I came on here to post the exact same example. Moises doesn’t need spring training, he should rest this month and save his legs for the end of the season.

        • therealsince86 says:

I think he will get a lot of pinch hit ab’s early and will not become fulltime until the last 7 games or so.

His horse was running yesterday in the Domincan… First things first.

    Slow Mo…Any kind of Mo.
