According to their Facebook Group, a large group of Phillies fans are planning a ‘Take Over’ of Shea Stadium during the Phillies-Mets game on September 6.
…thanks to our old friend Luke Halpert for the link…
The following appears on their webpage…
“Are you sick and tired of stupid Mets fans taking over Citizen’s Bank Park? Well its time to return the favor! On Saturday September 6th Philadelphia will be taking over Shea Stadium. Right now we are in the process of talking to sales reps at Shea Stadium to get group tickets available. As soon as they are available we will post a log-in id and password so you can order your tickets! This game will be a FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME which means its on NATIONAL TV!!!! I want as many Phillies fans there as humanly possible! Lets send Shea Stadium out with a bang! F@#K THE METS!!!!!!”
…from what i can gather, more than 500 Phillies fans say they will try to attend the game…ugh…
For what it’s worth, the Mets travel to Philadelphia on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20, both of which are Nationally televised games.
Single-game tickets for Citizen’s Bank Park go on sale tomorrow, Thurs., Feb. 21, and can be purchased at Phillies.com.

we’ll have wrapped up the division by then anyway
haha, why didnt they just do this earlier in the season. half those people will forget or lose interest come september. and what if we’re like 7 games up in the division, itll basically be over…..oh wait (sorry couldnt help myself)
Don’t say that. We had it wrapped up last year at that point too.
I could not care less about 500 Phills in Shea. There are usually that many Yankee fans there as well. Maybe the Mets will play like its a road game. They seem to play better on the road anyway.
I say we return the favor and INVADE Philly…
WHAT BETTER DAY TO DO THAT THAN ON 4/20??? (BYOM)
“Who’s comin with me…?”
F that, I hate Philly…what a crappy town.
Already have tickets to 4/19, but I’m in.
Have you seen the new show; “500 vs 60,000″?
No, i never saw that one did you? I looked it up I just couldnt find it
WERE GONNA SMACK YOU STRAIGHT IN THE FACE LIKE LAST YEAR YOU ARROGANT PUNK!
GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what are they going to do, bring the “Wolf Pack” to Shea?!
Screw ‘em. Let them have a front seat to getting waxed.
They’ll be in good spirits when down 12 games to the Mets at that point. Those tickets will probably be available cheap on stubhub or ebay once those fans decide it’s not worth the trip.
Exactly! Besides, what’s 500 Philly fans when we’ll have 45000 Met fans?
youre forgetting the usual 1000 moron yankee fans that cant get tickets to games in the bronx.
Wow, calling out a facebook group for planning to attend a baseball game in September…………..so newsworthy!!!
Can’t we have more posts about how confident willie is in his guys? or how not bored the team will be this year? Or perhaps about the mystery surrounding that pesky mole of Beltrans? Or about the frequency with which Moises alou will pee on his hands in spring training???
keep on hatin, Met fans! dont fool yourselves…you’ve got a lot of work to do to get that nasty taste of collapse out of your mouths
Hey BillyGoat….
2008 NL East Champs. Book it.
Nick,
You may very well be right….I was pretty demoralized when you landed Santana…but they do play 162 games and a lot can happen….everyone and their mother is picking the Mets to win not only the division but the national league too…sooo maybe you are the team to beat…and the phils beat you last year, and it just might happen again….
Hey Billy Boy, just a quick and simple question. You talk about Mets fans “hating”… Why are you obsessed with visiting a another teams blog and try to wild everybody up?
Theres one thing to be a fan but to try and “infiltrate” *snicker* a place where a team’s fans meet and discuss team issues is borderline psycho… Lemme guess you have Phillies bed sheets huh?
Qns,
I come to this site every day, among others, because I’m a baseball fan and I think matt does a great job….I also happen to be a lifelong Phils fan currently living in NYC…
unlike some of you in here, i dont troll specifically to herb on you people…but sometimes, i feel like i need to speak up because the personal attacks are downright obnoxious….like, red neck fans??? umm, last time i checked philly was in the northeast and we’re talking about baseball, not nascar….
unlike you guys on a popular phils blog, i dont come on here and tell you to suck it and babble incoherently…some friendly digs??? absolutely..and thats part of the fun…
let the games begin.
Exactly dude, i live in Philly now and this sight just really ticks me off. Theyre own fans cant even agree on the same thing.
Hahahaha… Ok cool guy.
This is great!
“Are you sick and tired of stupid Mets fans taking over Citizen’s Bank Park? Well its time to return the favor!”
We have plenty of our OWN STUPID fans! Let’s bring our dumbest to Shea!!
Don’t the Iggles (Eagles for the rest of us) start playing around that time? The only reason why the Phillies had fans at Citizen’s Bank Park was because they were winning last year at that time….and I know for a fact that the Eagles own that town…..so what do you say we buy the group tickets disguised as Phillies fans and come in wearing “Brett Myers wifebeaters”….sounds like a plan to me
Are you sick and tired of stupid Mets fans taking over Citizen’s Bank Park?
“Then maybe we should actually buy Phillies tickets!”
BINGO!
wow…first of all all 500 of them “planning” to take over Shea is not nearly what met fans do in philly….we dont plan and have to resort making facebook groups in order to get met fans to go…and secondly 500 of them on a saturday at the last season at shea probably doesn’t happen, wont be enough tickets…and even if they all do get tickets 500 phillies fans and 54,000 mets fans isnt exactly taking over shea stadium….they sure are pathetic bunch
I run a trip for my firehouse every summer when the Mets play in Philly. My firehouse is called the BigHouse because we are one of 2 houses in the FDNY with 3 companies in quarters so I usually get 30 to 40 guys to go. 2 years ago we met up with some Philly fireman and things went pretty smoothly. However its the rest of the redneck Philly fans that we didnt get along with so much. Lets just say that if we are wearing anything FDNY we arent allowed in that big sports bar they have at the stadium after the game. Cant wait to go there this year and root on my Mets!
Just for the record – am a huge Phillies fan, but also a huge firefighter fan (dad’s retired PFD). You guys are always welcome, and always appreciated – Mets fans or not!!
I didn’t know people from Philly could afford NY ticket prices, much less 500 of them.
Matt look at the difference in your post and this jackass’s post. You are classy and level headed, Phillie fans the complete opposite. These people think 500 fans will make a difference to make it a pro Phillies crowd? The education system must be horrible down there.
I will still try and get myself a ticket for this game to help drown out these morons.
Please do not contribute to the Sillies! Let’s accept their contriution to Johan, in the form of gate receipts.
Every dollar spent at their ballpark helps them pay for Howrad/Utley/Rollins. Don’t do it.
Maybe the Mets can sell them tickets in the “No Alcohol” zone…
I got my tickets for Citizens Bank Park in April :)
I go there every year – it’s like a Mets home game. Mets fans – get there if you can. I’m glad to hear the Philly fans have noticed us, and it’s getting on their nerves.
Ill be there for the April 19th game…BTW doesnt that douchebag come off like Joe from The Family Guy? “LETS GET IT OOOOOOOONNNNNNNN!!!!”
Thanks for helping us pay for Johan, Philly.
I guess we can return the favor and help them pay for the lowballing they’re doing with Ryan Howard’s contract since it appears that Philly management has no interest in paying one of the big reasons why their team has been relevant in NL playoff discussions the past few seasons.
True that.
Lets see: One ticket, plus parking, plus a sausage and pepper, plus six beers (no tip), times 500 . . .
That pays for about an inning of Johan. Ill take it.
Hmm, check that. More like a half inning.
I’ll still take it.
Irony thy name is the philadelphia sports fan.
yeah, this is ridiculous, we overtake CBP because phillies fans don’t buy their own tickets, they should concentrate on getting to their own ballpark before trying to get to ours. Mets fans actually go to Mets games, and we don’t need some sort of organized trip to take over their ballpark, it just happens because Mets fans actually want to watch their team play.
I just did some research and I hope no Philly fan sees this as it would put a damper on things for them.
Look at how many of their players had career years. Similar to what happen on our team in 06.
Here is the best example. Our boy Rollins.
BA was 20 points higher than career average
OBP was 13 points higher
SLG was 90 points higher (someone investigate this guy for roids)
OPS was 103 points higher
HR were up 15
RBI up 25
3B up 10
TB 100 more, wow.
That’s a great season but any fan who expects him to duplicate that season they are as misguided as any Mets fan that expects Delgado and Pedro to play like its 99.
well, to be fair, rollins is 28 and coming into his prime, and has had two very good years back-to-back. he’s a very good ball player.
Agree, Rollins is in his prime. He may not repeat those numbers, but doubtful he will drop off to .260, 15HR, 60RBI, 18 SBs. Also, most of the core of that team did not have career years. Howard slumped for the first 2 months. Utley broke his hand in August. Victorino was on the DL with a bad leg. Burrell sucked in the first half. Really, the only guy you can say had a career year was Rowand and he is gone.
i traveled to philly last summer to unfortunetly witness 2 of the 4 losses they took during that crucial series… and i must say that atleast 20 percent of the upper deck was mets fans.. it was a beautiful thing.. but what a bunch of a-holes those fans are… and to security, philly fans could do no wrong…. efff the phils and their fans!
Yeah. When I went it was like 10 percent. I wasn’t in the upper deck though. Those are probably the easy seats to get last minute. They aren’t regular Mets fans though. Half of them are spite Phillies fans. They know nothing about the Mets. I’ve talked to some of these people lol Trust me, no one’s traveling that far to be in a stadium that has a court inside of it. It’s usually just people in between who are like an hour away. Both teams have lots of bandwagoners at this time of the season.
to all my met loves, be sure to heckle the hell out of them and have them running back to philly chanting e-a-g-l-e-s.
well, we can certainly chant back:
BIG BLUE WRECKING CREW!
Philadelphia is a B town at best, and its fans are vile. I don’t want anything to do with them and I certainly won’t be wasting my time traveling that city and more than I already do for business.
“any more than I already do for business.
Your right. So few Phillies fans who go to there own games are even from Philly and they’re still pretty vile lol I go there because it’s only like a half hour from where I live. Either stadium is okay as long as you aren’t looking for attention. I know some people don’t like the fights, but that’s part of what makes the game entertaining. Seeing random losers get ejected. Or drunks curse lol
The real challenge will be can the intensity hold at this when football season starts.
OH NOS! teh facebook groops r attakinz!
I really hate Philly…but whatever they want 500 tickets, Shea hold 57,000+…and if the game is nationally televised in september, it will be sold out, so they will be a small pecrcentage…i hope we blow them out that day, it will be fun watching them all leave in like the 4th inning
Most people don’t buy in groups lol This is one little crappy investment that probably won’t sell off tickets. The only way to get people to go to a game is if they do it themselves. If Queens were a little closer and you didn’t have to drive through Manhattan or Staten Island to get there, you’d see more Phillies fans at Shea earlier in the year. As the year goes on and the tension rises, more Phillies fans come. There are more Mets fans at Phillies games because there are more people in the NY area than Philly area. There’s more Philly fans in between NY and Philly though because so much of it’s eaten up by Yankees fans. If you guy’s think they’ll be like 500/57,000 than get a blindfold. They’ll be at least 6 or 7 thousand. Don’t expect them to be together. Expect them to be drunk and obnoxious. Just hope they have a designated driver.
I wonder if they’re aware that most group sales (especially that large) result in seats in the picnic area. At least they won’t be surrounding us Mets fans any more than they do when there’s not a “takeover” being planned. They’ll just be out in the picnic area, kind of on their own private island for loud, obnoxious people – while we cann all point and laugh at them from a distance as their team loses 6-1 to drop them to 12 games back.
Who cares about the low down lousy Philli’s. They’re a bunch of no bodie’s. All you Met fan’s should care less about them. The Philli’s are a knat.Let’s get back to hating the Braves!
i have the sat package and like most sat games they will be sold out..so i say let the 500 philly fans come and enjoywatching their team lose ground in the playoff chase…i have 10 of us in section 8 upper deck reserve 1st row so if there are any philly fans by us they are going over head first!!! buttaz
The Mets are concerned about taking over the entire league. Phils only care about playing one team. Fools. The facebook page has more Met fan comments anyway. Plus those 639 confirmed guests forgot one thing, they need to buy the tickets first.
boo you philly whores!
why do they have to try to take over shea right after the semester starts? :(
We need to get “Ph*** the Fillies” shirts
Two words: Bring it!
lol. funny how things have turned out.
I know a lot of people get upset with the Rollins this and that, but I just looked at what John Rocker said about New York after not for like 5 years and it really is as bad as it sounds. I don’t know of any 20 year old with 4 kid’s lol I’m hoping no one else does either. The Phillies fans used to give Wagner brutal treatment because of Pat Burrell and Arthur Rhodes taking jabs at him. They tried throwing a battery at J.D. Drew for not wanting to sign with them lol It took that much from Rocker to get us to boil. Could you imagine what would have happened if he said something like that about Philly.
Anyway, here it is lol
“It’s the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark, looking like you’re riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It’s depressing.”
They should make some sort of rule against groups. Simply because they’re annoyances. Even Mets fans in Philly. They used to do this kind of thing with the Yankees with the Orioles. It’s usually a bunch of drunks who shout like there is no tomorrow. They don’t even know what they’re yelling about lol They usually ruin the game for the home fans who are sitting there. You’re much better off being scattered around the stadium
I’d recommend not wearing too much Mets stuff in Philly unless you got thick skin to handle a little cursing. Making sure you’re like one of those mothers with eyes on the back of there head when you’re in the bathroom too lol I’ve never really seen too many incidents with Mets fans starting trouble with Phillies fans at Shea, but this weekend it’s possible.
Well, it’ll be hard to take over Shea on Saturday with the rain that is coming.
