whether we think we could use him or not is really irrelevant what’s importnat here is 2 thinkgs: 1) Gracia was in camp so he must like the mets at least a little bit, which is always a good just in case. I can’t see freddy getting any offers or signing anywhere before the beginning of may anyway. 2) This was omar being a good GM. never ever tell your opponents what your are thinking or are up to. lets not give any other team any more ammo to sign a guy just to keep him off of the mets. Good answer by omar. If any pitcher goes down between now and may (god forbid knock on wood) Freddy may not be a bad mid season pickup.

Even worse, if he does leave, I could see him landing on the Yankees. But, if so, at least it will be a good thing if he reverts to bad Ollie!

WOnder if the new Hankee stadium is still going to be a lefty hitting paradise, or will it play more even?

Completely off topic (sorry Matt). Did anyone else read this AROD quote.

unless the mets decide to make a real effort to sign him and get some kind of agreement in at least principal, and assuming no injuries, why dont we try to trade him at the trading deadline? For perez, esecially if he can sign an extension with his new team (for more than waht the mets are offering), we can proboably get pitching prospects or a younger mojor leage ready pitcher and let pelfrey have his real shot. Itll give us more for the future and we only miss 2 months of him.
Thats assuming no injuries, if Pedro/Duque are going to miss significant time then you got to keep him, but assuming no major injuries and a good return, maybe gettin what you can for him and let someone else overpay him like crazy is the best.

This may be a reach, it may not. Oliver Perez, even if he is pitching well, perhaps Minaya should at the least explore trading him at the deadline. I know that sounds crazy when in the heat of the season and (hopefully) in 1st place, but Perez is not that good for the huge money!, at least not consistent enough. I say best case scenario, trade Perez in the heat of the race for a decent return, because Pelfrey is ready to take charge, and that slot. Refurbish the system, the hell with Boras and the Mets still come out on top. It may be a reach, it may not!

Although the thought of facing Perez in the post season after trading him, well… LOL!!

I guess your definition of nice is different than mine. I dunno, a $15k cross just doesnt ‘do’ it for me. Sorry. BWM’s, Ferrari’s, yachts, mansions, LOVE em. You know what though. I still wouldnt bring a Ferrari down to ST and leave the doors unlocked. Im the most superficial person in the country. I love stuff. I love it cause I love it. Im sorry. On my death bed I will stil say that ‘bling’ is the stupest thing Ive ever heard of. I wonder why so many athletes that have made millions go broke after they retire…..You think it maybe purchases like diamiond and ruby encrusted necklaces and $100k Escalades?…..Funny, Ive never seen Jeter have to self promote via ridiculous trinkets….
