I have to call it a toss up between the two. Tecmo Super Bowl was the superior game, but the original was the ground breaking one. You have to give serious credit to the original Tecmo just because it opened the door for the improved Tecmo Super Bowl edition.

I'm just thankful that I blew about 5 years of my life on both ... 5 years I don't regret a single play of ... well, except for that horrific Jack Trudeau floater that got picked off in a playoff game, but that's another story ...

It is a ROM game but it's fully functional. Saves games, seasons, and allows for network play.

haha I don't know if I'd call current EA games "sabermetric." In my Madden franchise, more than half the QBs in the league post passer ratings over 100 and running backs run for 2,000 yards regularly.

But I will agree that Tecmo Super Bowl is the greatest sports video game of all time. A few years ago, my college roomate bought a Nintendo for like 20 bucks and got Tecmo Super Bowl, and we played out almost an entire season, before the game stopped working around Week 14.

Also, Super Bowl had the ability to create players and allow them to develop. Very Cool.

Those games were based more on fun game play rather than the sabermetric games that EA Sports puts out now.
