…no way is Webb/Haren better than Santana/Pedro. Haren has had one good 1/2 season. Pedro is one of the most dominating pitchers to ever play the game and Santana is on his way to that status too. I would not even compare the D-Backs to the Mets in that department. Santana/Pedro is the best one-two in baseball and I do not want to hear anything else about it. The mets also have arguably the best three-four-five as well if Duque is good to go. Sick rotation…cannot wait for the games to begin.

Seriously? Besides Santana and Pedro, there’s Webb and Haren, Peavy and Young…. hell, with their ages, I might be more inclined to have Penny and Billingsley.

I’d say Webb/Haren #1, only because the Mets don’t know what they’re gonna get from Pedro, and because I’m not sure exactly how good Chris Young is: he was 1-5 with a 4.80 ERA after the break last year, and he was only 5-6 with a 4.52 ERA away from pitcher-friendly Petco last year (compared to 4-2, 1.69 @ home). Hudson is an injury risk, and Smoltz has to start showing his age, eventually, right? If they both are healthy and having good seasons, then maybe they’d be the best, but I don’t see it right now.

I’m not sure where that comes from either. I mean, Hudson was very good last year, but he’s been up and down since coming to Atlanta. And Smoltz is still a great pitcher, but you have to wonder about his health.

That being said, Marchman is one of the few NY sportswriters who (A) regularly writes about the Mets, and (B) isn’t a total moron.

I’m not really sure I consider Smoltz-Hudson to be “the best 1-2 punch in the league” as Marchman does.

You can definitely make a case for Santana/Martinez or Webb/Haren or even Peavy/Young.

I guess I don’t really understand how Atlanta has improved. Sure they got Glavine, but they lost Renteria and even though he had an awful year they lost Andruw Jones and his nearly 30 HR and 100 RBI (even in a crap year).
