The Mets have announced a pitching schedule for next week, which will look as follows…
Monday (intrasquad game):
Joselo Diaz, Robert Parnell, Jon Niese, Adam Bostick, Joe Smith, Ruddy Lugo, Steve Register, Juan Padilla, Duaner Sanchez, Ivan Maldonado and Andy Cavazos.
Tuesday (vs. U of Michigan):
Jason Vargas, Eddie Kunz, Billy Wagner, Aaron Heilman, Ricardo Rincon, Carlos Muniz, Nelson Figueroa, Nate Field and Ryan Cullen.
Wednesday (at Tigers):
Mike Pelfrey, Matt Wise, Pedro Feliciano, Jorge Sosa, Brian Stokes and Willie Collazo.
Thursday (at Cardinals):
John Maine, Duaner Sanchez, Scott Schoeneweis, Joe Smith, Ruddy Lugo, Steve Register and Juan Padilla.
Friday (vs. Cardinals):
Johan Santana, Billy Wagner, Aaron Heilman, Ricardo Rincon, Carlos Muniz, Nelson Figueroa and Eddie Kunz.
…so, there you have it…like SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt speculated on yesterday, santana will start the team’s first spring training at Tradition Field, in front of their home fans…

No Pedro?
no O.P.
no ElDuque?
Somethig we don’t know?
They do dual squad games until they send most of the the minor leaguers to their own teams, so I’m guessing thats just half of the team.
They’ll (Pedro and Perez) likely go on Sat and Sun, its nothing to worry about.
Duque can wait a while, they dont need him until the 4th series of the season anyway.
Yeah, that kind of jumps right out….
extrapolate out Johan Santana every 5th day and you end up with March 30th, the day off before opening day.
The Mets have just unofficially announced that their opening day starter is Johan Santana.
The rest of the starters will line up after Santana, no need to rush them into games when they arent ready. And no need to even get Duque going yet as they dont need him until April 15th-ish.
do you know the remaining schedule for the rest of weekend..i will b there for the sat game as well.
IM so F@#$!ing Hyped!!!
Its just an educated assumption on my part. Best guess is that it will be Pedro on Sat followed by Perez on Sun as that best sets up the rotation in order.
you may be fortunate to see Robert Parnell, Jon Niese, and Adam Bostick as well on Sat as they are starters and will likely be back on thier 5th day.
Santana will only start opening day if they go with a 5 man rotation…otherwise it’s maine or perez.
Yeah, on a team with Pedro and Santana, they’re going to start John Maine or Ollie Perez on opening day.
Does the “F” in Fbones stand for foolish comments?
I think people are missing perhaps the most important aspect. Juan Padilla will be pitching on Monday. I was under the impression that he was hurt and wouldn’t be healthy for the start of the season, but if he’s throwing actual games now, then that seems to indicate otherwise, no?
…and he’s pitching Thursday too.
That was my first thought as well, upon seeing this. Padilla and Dirty Sanchez could be the keys to this bullpen being great on the one hand, or pedestrian on the other. That is especially the case for Dirty… the expectations are there for him, whereas no one really expects anything of Padilla yet.
SNY Friday at 1, im there!
Super, I have tix for 3/3 and 3/5, looks like Santana lines up for 3/5. I’ll be the guy in section 102 trying not to explode with glee.
Am also going 3/4 to Phillies v. Braves at Orlando. Should I root for the plague? Nah, bad karma. I’ll just do a little scouting and a lot of drinking.
The Braves tix (through Stubhub) came with tix to a “special event” at 11:00am 3/2, which as far as I can tell is a meet and greet with players. Man I hope Glavine isn’t there, otherwise I’ll probably be arrested for disorderly conduct and unable to see Santana on the 5th.
Besides the friday game, does anyone know if any of the other games are being televised?
Many of them are. Sat 3/1 on CW11, Mon 3/3 and Wed 3/5 on SNY, and Fri 3/7 on ESPN all at 1:00pm. Many more after that, check out mets.com spring training schedule it lists all the coverage.
oh my bad for not being clear. I meant are any of the other games that are being played this week being televised, or do we have to wait til friday?
is the game vs. Michigan going to be televised? …. my two favorite sports teams are the Mets and the Wolverines (football primarily) so it should be kinda interesting….. i was at spring training on wednesday and i won tickets to the game, but i’m not still gonna be in florida so i just kept the tickets as souvenirs
and when i was at spring training i noticed that El Duque wasn’t throwing at all during fielding drills while all of the other pitchers were…. are they just being cautious or could he be a little sore/injured?
and i got johan santana’s autograph!!!! (and fernando martinez’s!) yayyy
im going there next week..i have tickets to the fri and sat games..how early do i have to get there for a 1pm game to be able to get some autographs and talk to some players?
