My point was Phillies does not have the money to keep Howard if he has a nothing season like his last two. Its not a matter of wanting to get rid of him. They might not be able to offer him what he wants without creating bigger holes on their team. Chase U., Rollins, Burrell, Victorino, and Hamels are all going to be looking to make so major bucks when their contracts expire within the next three years and Howard has the ability to get a huge 5-6 yr offere worth 110-130 mil.

This is the year for the Phillies to make a run, but they have no pitching. So I don’t like thier chances. It’s now or five years from now for them, as is the Mets because it is questionable if Pedro or Perez will be back for 09.

Howard is one of the best bat in baseball right now next to Big Papi. Or A-Rod from the beginning of last season when he went on that 13 homerun strike in April.

No doubt that the Phillies right now have a good team, but lets look at the long term. Burrell was almost traded at last years deadline, and I think there is a huge possibility he will be traded by this years deadline, and Howard has what maybe 2 years left with the Phills until they have to either let him go or trade him because everyone knows that the Phils don’t have the money to spend on players like the Mets, or Red Soxs.

Why are the Phillies signing Kris Benson. He is very questionable on whether he can pitch after being injuried all last season. Moyer is like 42, or 43 he is on his way out, and thank god the phillies have Hamel or they would be competing with the nats, and marlins for 3rd.

“arthroscopic” is only to look around and see what the problem is. Some problems may be fixed while the doctor is “in there” but it could reveal other tears- ACL injury, etc.
