Beltran is a very good player. He is consistent. He plays very good defense. He has had bad wheels for a couple of years. As a person with bad knees who tries to stay active, I wonder if his leg issues arose from compensating for his knees. Maybe this year he is healthy, fully adjusted to his team and quietly pissed about how last year ended. He is one of the best players in baseball and I am very happy he is on my team. Don't forget he played with a broken face after his crash with Cameron. That alone makes me dismiss "toughness" issues with him.

He was the real MVP in 2006. If he doesn't sit most of the last month because of his bruised knee, his raw numbers would have been better and he would've gotten the award. The fact they gave the award who can't play defense or run the bases tells you how worthless the award can sometimes be.

im looking for a 40+ hr year from beltran...suppossedly hes added more arm muscle or something...and i saw a pic of him and he looks huge...i read all of this in the article on mets.com ab him getting hit by the pitch from santana...the pic is also there...he def looks bigger in it but maybe its just the camera...but enough with that...i think beltran really wants to gain everyones respect this year and stop being a very quiet player...seems like he's expecting a big year, so why shouldn't i expect him to have one as well.

I think Beltran feels healthy this Spring as opposed to past three Springs, and when he reflects on what he has done the last 2 seasons, averaging a .275 BA, 37 HR, and 114 RBI, he probably expects to duplicate or improve those numbers (maybe BA). If he wins the Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and bats .300 while hitting 35-40 HR and 115-120 RBI while the Mets win the NL East, he has to believe he will be in the mix for the NL MVP. Again, I think he sees what he has done with a niggling knee injuries for the last two seasons, and expects more now that he has had his knees scoped. Or, maybe he's on HGH (just kidding).

According to Yahoo

"Beltran asked manager Willie Randolph to avoid matching him up in batting practice against a hard throwing rookie who might overthrow in trying to make an impression"

Oh and he sat out yesterdays running drills because his legs are sore.....

Maybe Johan was just trying to toughen Beltran up a bit by throwing at him

I hope Beltran changes his entrance song to the "Mr. Softee Theme" from when the ice-cream man comes around your neighborhood

Trust me I hope you are right however he may be putting too much pressure on himself with his public comments which may make him press and then suck. Again I sure hope not.
