Q: Will you be in St. Lucie Sat., Mar 1?

by Matthew Cerrone

As of now, SNY will be sending me down to Port St. Lucie from Saturday, March 1, through Friday, March 7, to live blog my experience watching the Mets from Tradition Field.

i’m beyond excited, as this will be my first time ever going to spring training…in the true spirit of a blog, my plan is to roam around with my laptop and camera, and press credentials, and basically keep a diary of the experience, which will hopefully include a Q&A or two, some exclusive access to different parts of the complex, and who knows what else

On Saturday night, March 1, me and few other bloggers, who will also be in town, plan to hang out at Duffy’s Sports Grill.

…if you are in town, feel free to stop by…it would be pretty cool to get a MetsBlog Night in St. Lucie going, but i have no idea how many of this site’s readers will actually be in town…

…so, if you’ll be in St. Lucie, and would like to hang out, send me an e-mail so i can put together a rough count

Too bad, I’m arriving there the 7th … would have been cool to meet you.

DjDeF February 25, 2008 at 10:52 am

West End Grill is the best place to eat there. And the complex where Duffys resides is a fun place with batting cages, mini-golf, arcade and bowling. Also there is a movie theater right there.

I was there last year and it was an awesome time.

dykstraw February 25, 2008 at 11:01 am

i’m in. it’ll be at least me and the gf, and i’ll see who else i can bring.

wewantviolaback February 25, 2008 at 11:04 am

HeadlinerG60 February 25, 2008 at 11:07 am

SheaVendor February 25, 2008 at 11:06 am

Matt….did you get an expense account?? LOL

rM teM February 25, 2008 at 11:10 am

Matt, I’ll be there on the second. It’s my
first ST too. Can’t wait.

Endys_Catch February 25, 2008 at 11:13 am

Damn…I’ll be there from the 7th to the 10th.

dmss13 February 25, 2008 at 11:14 am

Duffy’s is an interesting bar cause you have a mix of locals and Metro area Met fans drinking together. Went last year there and I saw Jay Payton drinking Jack Daniels straight and hitting on girls. The place closes at 1am which is early but it is a nice atmosphere.

Check out Bob Evans for Brunch if the Mets have a night game…your bound to see some players with their families.

Capt_Draino February 25, 2008 at 11:15 am

Not heading down there until 3/13, I am probably not going to be able to make the trip up Jupiter to catch the Mets/Marlins game on that Friday- I am looking for something to do 3/14- Anybody have any ideas?

dmss13 February 25, 2008 at 11:21 am

you could visit dodgertown…its worth checking out and its only like 25 miles away. The dodgers are also moving next year and its the last year they’ll be there. The town of Vero Beach is real nice (great beach) and there is alot more to do there than in Port St. lucie.

Capt_Draino February 25, 2008 at 11:37 am

Yeah I had thought of that I have heard good things about Vero Beach…
I kinda wanted to keep it Mets releated but I guess if I go down to Vero its a piece of baseball history

I “could” go there on that day, I’m only 45 minutes away, but I’d have to bring my 9 month old daughter with me, so I don’t know how well that would work out.

Ed Q. February 25, 2008 at 11:28 am

Excuses, excuses Jose. My 4 month daughter and I were off to Pac Bell last year. She still talks about it.

richm26 February 25, 2008 at 11:30 am

I will miss you by one day, Matt.

I’ll be there on Fri 2/29. Also, my first time – also super excited.

Peter February 25, 2008 at 11:31 am

Congrats Matt!

Zoe February 25, 2008 at 11:36 am

Coop and I will be there Saturday :-)

MadMike5 February 25, 2008 at 11:37 am

Matt, I’m from South Florida and I go to spring training every year since I was a little kid. I’m a huge Mets fan even though I’m surrounded by the fake Marlins fans down here in Miami. I’ll be there the 1st with my dad, cousins, sister, uncle, and my girlfriend. I’ll try my hardest to get everyone to get to the bar so we can hang out. Hope to see you there.

dsgtrane February 25, 2008 at 11:45 am

I live about an hour away in the West Palm area. Will be there on Monday 3/3 for my birthday. Even better I have tix for opening day on 3/31.

jason February 25, 2008 at 11:53 am

i’ll be there from thurs night until saturday night..maybe i’ll stay an extra night until sunday if it’s not too expensive…what time r u guys meeting at Duffy’s?

realist718 February 25, 2008 at 12:10 pm

I’ll be in PSL later in the month… 3/21 – 3/23. just a short weekend trip. it’ll be my first ST as well. Anybody planning on being down there later in the spring? let me know I’m going with one of my best buddies and we’ll definitely be interested in meeting up at a bar for some drinks.

realist718 February 25, 2008 at 12:11 pm

anybody know what the best hotel to stay at in PSL is? I don’t want to break the bank either…

fyffem February 25, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Matt, I hate you! I should be so lucky – congrats…

Ferd C February 25, 2008 at 12:25 pm

I’ll be in PSL for the weekend to catch 3 games, plus one in Jupiter on Thursday. I’ll be meeting up with some family and friends, but I’ll try to stop by on Saturday.

vinster February 25, 2008 at 12:26 pm

I wish I could make it to PSL, but we’re hitting Disney and the west coast the week before Easter. I do have tickets to Mets/Astros in Kissimmee on Sunday, 3/16 and Phillies/Twins in Fort Myers, 3/21.

The Astro game wasn’t split-squad until after I bought them, but the other half is playing the Tigers not too far away. From the preliminary pitching lineup, I’m missing Johan by a day…

matttracy.com February 25, 2008 at 12:26 pm

Well, I’ll be in Port St Lucie the entire day on March 3rd. I’m writing for my site, matttracy.com, and Baseball Youth Magazine. I’ll be on the field in pregame, etc. I’m pumped.

After the game I’m gonna head to SuperPlayUSA, where this Duffy’s grill is at. I love that place, we were there last year and I saw Juan Padillia running in there, he was so excited.

Lets Go Mets

LetsGetMetsmerized February 25, 2008 at 12:27 pm

If this is your full-time job, why aren’t you in Florida already, and why would you come back on the 7th. Shouldn’t you stay there and get inside scoop on your own and interview some players and get some video for the site, or are your texts from Burkhardt sufficient as news for your growing site? Come on.

rockets212 February 25, 2008 at 1:21 pm

oh boo hoo i ophe your joking because if your not i feel so bad that you only get 10 updated a day and plenty of info on sny, especially when most blogs get 1 maybe 2 or 3 updates a day.
Your doing an amazing job matt keep it up!!!

chew13 February 25, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Hater!

metsfanatic February 25, 2008 at 12:46 pm

This seems to be the year of the blogger. With Diablo Cody winning the Oscar and with you being completely legitimized by SNY we are seeing the blogosphere really becoming an important part of communication.

rockets212 February 25, 2008 at 1:19 pm

ill be there the 4th thru the 9th ill look for you when im at the game on the 5th, where are you going to be sitting?
are you going to the away games or are you stayin in St. Lucie?

mavicario February 25, 2008 at 1:47 pm

Damn…I’ll be there on the 20th and 21st. Atleast now I know where to go to eat.

Christian February 25, 2008 at 3:21 pm

I will be down there for the 1st and 2nd. I’ll be staying in Vero Beach on the night of the 1st, as I’ll be checking out that game on the second, but, my girlfirend and I will be there if people are showing up early enough…

Max32 February 25, 2008 at 5:04 pm

I’ll be there from 2/29 to 3/3 so i’ll try to make it. I just need to know the time. Sounds like fun. It’ll be me and 3 others, one of which is a Yankees fan… but he doesn;t hate the Mets!!! He’s a nice yankees fan, promise.
You’ve done an impresive job Matt. I write articles for Dugout Central (or perhaps you know it as BaseballReference.com) and this site’s great for daily updates.
-just realized i’m going to miss Johan while i’m there ; ; Oh well, i’ll have to watch him on tv friday.

MetsFan1976 February 25, 2008 at 11:50 pm

I won’t be there, but wanted to congratulate you, Matt. All these new experiences you are getting to enjoy are well deserved. You clearly work very hard on this site, and it is nice to see the Mets and SNY acknowledge that.
