They should nickname the new park “The vault” (ala bank vault) then the announcers can say something cheesy like “The Mets lock up another win in the vault”

I have the same issues with Willie’s in-game managing as the rest of his detractors, but don’t think for a minute that he’s laid back and he doesn’t care just because he doesn’t act out for the benefit of the media and fans.

Remember, Joe Torre was considered a hopeless incompetant, dumped by two organizations, before he became a genius. If the Mets become a team that can rival the accomplishments of those Yankee teams, it will be because of Randolph’s style, not despite it.

I love willie as a person but not as a manager. More than anyone else, he is the most responsible for last seasons collapse. Once in a while you have to show more of a pulse and light a fire under your team.
I would love to see Wally.

Remember that corporate sponsorships change often. That’s why I hate when a team’s identity tied to something that is likely to change down the road.

If three quarters of your article is defending the awful perceived reputation of a potential managerial candidate then it’s unlikely that he will ever be viewed as a good choice by upper level management. As for passion the Mets could use some but not in the way of a hot head the likes of Lou Piniella barking at every disagreeable call. We got rid of Paul Lo Duca for a reason.

Give me Wally Backman or Bobby Valentine of Randolph any day of the week. I’d take their styles over Willie’s “laid back I don’t care it’s going to get better” style any day. But, for one of those guys to be here means the Mets are stinking up the joint so I guess if I want the Mets to be doing well, we’re stuck with Willie.
