Word on the street is that if Lastings was a better rapper he'd still be a Met. NYC doesn't put up with weak rhymes. Never has.

If Pedro plays it smart, he'll keep smiling and dancing and keep quiet otherwise, just riding the coattails behind Johan the Ace. If he can be the healthy version of El Duque this year, throwing baffling frisbees against the other team's #2 and #3 starters, he'll be on pace for 15+ wins easy and really put the pressure on the Mets to overpay him in $$$ and years this summer.

Again, to me it all depends on how Perez pitches this year. If he duplicates last year or better, I would rather pay him than Tex.

Frankly, if Pedro pitches well, he will be back.

The Mets will be opening a new stadium. No way they let a fan favorite walk if he had a great year.

I look the Mets to sign him to a 2-3 year contract if he show that he is healthy.

Take that to the bank. Wilpon will not let that happen.

Again, to sum, unless Pedro gets hurt and sub-performs, he will be back. Its all about the green ($$$) baby, and the Wilpons would be better off with Pedro than without.

Who would you rather the Mets "throw the bank" at next year - Perez or Teixeira?

Both are Bora$ clients (and the Yankees will be looking for someone to play 1B next year as well).

I think this works out well two-fold for Pedro. If he re-signs with the Mets after picthing some during the season then he stays on the team of his preference. On the other hand he is showcasing himself to other teams and showing them that he is healthy and can produce, especially with pitching so mediocre nowadays.

No reason to discuss an extension until pedro pitches a healthy 2008 season.

Perez is a Boras client so my attitude is expect to lose him. That way if he does stay I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm in Atlanta, btw, and down here all these clueless Braves fans are convincing themselves Texeira (also a Boras client) has found a true home in Atlanta and will surely re-up with the Braves. Ha ! I love these delusional clowns.

I wonder if anyone has the stats on how many times a Boras client has re-signed with his team after his contract expired...I would guess it's less than ten percent.

I know everyone is really worried about Perez and him signing after the season, but can we first see how he preforms. I would be more hesitant to lock him up right now than I would pedro. Perez has had one very good season with the Pirates and a good season in 07 with the Mets. I understand the market for pitchers, but if Perez bombs out this year, his price will not be nearly as high as it is right now.

If he turns in a dominant season, then I am all for the Mets throwing the bank at him as he is a young lefty who will have had three good seasons under his belt and two in a row under Peterson. But I am still a little doubtful about Perez...we shall see...
