Wow.

I got my facts a little wrong, (which I apologize for btw, I got a little confused.), and in the world of MetsBlog I am branded a liar.

That makes total sense. I mean, what are the odds that I could just be wrong? Obviously I must be a liar.

I'm sure Pedro was a factor in more than one player's choice.

Johan Santana's included. There, clearly, is a player that wanted to come to the Mets, and he wanted to be here because the organization has shown it wants to win and is willing to do what it takes to make that happen. Pedro was the big first step in that - and it just so happens that Johan is on record saying he likes and admires the guy too.

The way Johan has handled his arrival is way different to how Schilling did.

Johan has shown great respect to Pedro, and the two of them seem to get along great. There will be no problem.

that's just a lie DannyPhantom, its amazing how many people on this board just make stuff up, or simply do not know what they're talking about, its like you don't even follow baseball. Grady Little left him in that game, every pitcher wants to stay in the game, end of story. If Grady Little decided to take him out, that would have been it.

Nonsense. Whatever problems he had in Boston have nothing to do with his current situation. First, in Boston he WAS the ace, with nothing to prove, whereas now he knows he's in a comeback situation. Second, he's five long and difficult years more mature now than he was then.

Also, I suspect that Pedro just didn't like Schilling personally, which wouldn't be the first or the last time Schilling rubbed someone the wrong way. Guy rode into Boston on a big white horse with an "S" on his chest, all sanctimony and self-promotion. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if that's what put Pedro's back up.

Anyway, in three years here we haven't seen a bit of "Pedro the prima donna," and I don't think we will this year.

I think after all that Pedro has meant to the Mets they should make him the opening day starter

Hey Matt, you should put together a little "Who should be the opening day starter" survey. I am curious to see what everyone else thinks

Well, if Pedro really is 100% recovered, and can pitch like he did in early 2006 (pre surgery), then let's just say the Mets have co-aces, 1a and 1b.

I agree also the Pedro will get plenty of attention, and will take it as a challenge to outdo Santana 9or at least keep up).

Maybe they can finish 1-2 in the Cy Young voting (either order, I don't care). Oh heck, make it 1-2-3 with Ollie in there too! I don't think I will get greedy with Maine...

Actually, it is entirely possible that the Mets could have 4 guys in the top 10 Cy voting, and not many teams can say that! Certainly not the Phils.

You're mixing up your stories.

Pedro never forced Grady to leave him in the game. That's revisionist and inaccurate.

Pedro pushed strongly to come in relief for game 7 the next year, when the Red Sox were completing their amazing comeback.

But hey, that doesn't support your stance, so twist the truth.

your comment is true on most ideas, but not on the idea that it is a waste of money and a bad contract, i do believe pedro had somethin to do beltran coming here, but not a signifcant amount. Beltran was gunna go to the yankees for less because he wanted to win, but he went to the mets, why? because he wanted more money and he wanted to win, which he knew the mets were going to do. This has to be looked at as a business perspective, sure their paying him what 14 million this year, but they have made money on jerseys and advertisements over the span of his contract. People were buying his jerseys on 05 just like their buying santana jerseys now, and that money helped bring in guys like delgado and santana. The mets are making money off pedro, like they will off santana's contract, and he helped bring in big names. I say it was a good move for a team that was at the time struggling and needed to show the fans and other teams they are a serious team.
