It's possible that resigning Castillo was part of the strategy to lure Santana. I've seen plenty of reports that those two are good friends. That could very well have been a factor in putting the Mets on the top of his trade list...So when evaluating the Castillo contract, consider that it might have a lot more value than just what we get out of Castillo on the field.

Can't believe the guy didn't ask Maine if he used a pen or pencil when he does puzzles. Compulsive-obsessive types (like me) use a pen. Got within three or four words of finishing a Sunday Times crossword once. Those babies are tough. Cryptics are way too hard for me, as are the diagramless ones.

One of my favorite brawls was back in 1989 when Rob Dibble hit Tim Teufel square in the back with a 100 MPH Fastball and then came in seemingly to taunt him. Benches cleared, Juan Samuel went after someone on the Reds with a karate kick, Strawberry had to be restrained multiple times then I think after he was thrown out of the game, called the Reds clubhouse to challenge them to fight again! Also there was a great brawl between the Mets and the Braves in 94 I think after Ryan Thompson hit a grannie off Smoltz, then on the next pitch Smoltz nailed John Cangelosi on the back. As a matter of fact I think the picture of Cangelosi charging at Smoltz made the front cover of Sports Illustrated that week.

and
B) Real men do the Jumble in the Daily News, sittin' on the high stool, sippin' a draft for breakfast....

Matt, usually when you are thrown a soft ball like that you never miss as in:

It gets very frustrating when you’re so close and you can’t get those last one or two or three words

You mean, like when you can't get that last one or two wins at the end of the season?
