The way Pedro is talking, I'm going to be expecting 34 starter and 210 IP when the season starts. They might want to tone down the Pedro is as good as ever talk because if he does give them 25 starts and goes something like 12-6, 3.50 ERA its going to be looked at as dissapointing when it really shouldnt be.

Believe it or not, Ichiro speaks perfect english, with little accent. The reason for the translator is he gets sooo much publicity in Japan he knows everything he says will be broadcasted in Japan. In respect to his fans and home country he speaks Japanese. He has also stated it's just easier for everyone, so they don't have to re translate his interviews back to Japanese when the clips get to Japan. Now Vlad Guerrero is a whole 'nother story.

When I saw a recent press conference, I was surprised too. So I looked it up. Apparently, he already knew english before he got here. He just wasn't comfortable speaking it so his interpreter translated. When asked a question in English, Yao would reply to the translator without a translation. A lot of countries are teaching English, very early in school now.

on the subject of foreign players learning the english language, did anyone see Yao Ming's press conference yesterday? his english is excellent! remember when he first got here he couldn't even say 'hi'. then you got guys like Ichiro who still walk around with translators after 9 years in the bigs.

"Martinez woke up earlier this week and didn’t feel well, and left to have a colonoscopy"

Unless this is baseball related, it's probably more info than we needed to know. I guess better to visit Dr. Jellyfinger, than to visit Dr. Andrews to look at his shoulder

What's not to love about Pedro? His exuberance and lust for life is taken as goofiness, but who among us can say that they wouldn't feel the same way as he does if we made more money than G-d to play a game we love, and win some jewelery in the process? I'd like to think I'd giggle myself to sleep every day. He's bright and grounded enough after all these years to recognize his incredible great fortune.
