MetsBlog’s Mike Nichols and his wife, Christine, gave birth last night to their son, Carter Shea Nichols.

According to Nichols, “Both Mom and baby are doing well.”

…carter…shea…all i have to say is, outstanding mike…i don’t know if that is a direct reference to the Mets, but it’s close enough…and i love it…well played…

…congratulations, mike, christine and carter

If I want to name my children anything having to do w/ the mets, i’m gonna have to mask it cause my girl would hate that

Buy some ear plugs, grab your pillow and head for the couch for the next 2 months. ‘Nuff said.

  7. AzMetsFan says:

Why Carter Shea and not Johan Citi?

    Just kidding, Congratulations Mike!

  8. gottabelieve07 says:

Congratz man! Well done with the name.

As a parallel, I have a friend who’s a Star Wars freak who first named his dog Vader, and then his son Luke.

He claims his wife named the son Luke without considering the Star Wars implications. A believable story indeed!

Now that’s die hard fan! Congrats!

  11. Old Backstop says:

Hmm, that choice of name wasn’t very forward thinking.

Johan Citifield Nichols would have been a lot smarter!

    I kiiiiiiid!

I actually named my first child Amanda Shae Lee … I had to switch the a/e around in order to get it past the wife :)

Also, things could be worse. I actually have a nephew who was given the name Alex … his last name is Rodriguez.

  12. mrmet423 says:

    very nice name

  13. jamie says:

    congrats Mike!

  14. The best of luck,

As an afterthought I hope your relationship with your family doesn’t deteriorate like Chris “maddog” Russo, who uses the radio to complain about doing his fatherly duties, and express his desire to get away from his family and golf or watch TV

  15. bigdan says:

not to be a downer, but mike is a man, so it is not possible that he gave birth. his wife did. and im sure he was right beside her the whole time, but he did not do any of the pushing.

    • Charlie says:

um, anyone who has had a wife “give” birth knows all too well that us men play a huge part (if we so choose, of course) in supporting our wives and of course the sleepless nights. i choose to say i’m having a baby.

  16. mrmet82 says:

I named my daughter Alysia Shea. I lucked out and was able to turn my wife to a die hard fan(actually I think David Wright should get credit for that). She knew the reference and was all for it!

  17. cousinrk says:

A real Mets fan would name their kid Choo Choo Mookie but Carter Shea is ok. Congrats

  18. quikag182 says:

Congrats. I don’t have any kids, but my 2 dogs are Mookie and Buckner

  19. skillsets says:

    Mazel Tov!!!

  20. ifedeli says:

Congrats Mike! All the best. (and great job on the name!)

  21. jgreet says:

CONGRATS Mike and family! GREAT news!

I actually just found out this past weekend that my wife is pregnant with our second.

  22. haplo says:

Congrats, Mike! Post some pics when you get a chance!

  23. ddsimpson says:

I wonder if, a generation from now, people will be naming their children Reyes Citifield Smith. …Kind of makes you a little unsentimental about the era of corporate naming rights.

    • boozermetsfan says:

just be careful Carter does not turn into a camera hungry egomaniac.

      I like Strawberry for a girl’s name.

  24. Number41 says:

We named our kid, “Cowbell Girl”.
She gets beat up on her way home from PS 54 everyday.
    These things can backfire sometimes…

  25. Charlie says:

We’re having our 2nd (another boy) next Friday.

I tried like hell to get her to go for a name that is Mets related and she nixed everything…until…she came up with Casey (all on her own). She had no idea of the significance.

What’s better is that if you look at your calendar, next Friday is March 7th (or 3/7) and what is Casey Stengel’s number? That’s right, number 37.

  26. terpz06 says:

congrats on being the first man in history to give birth …was it tougher on you or her?

  27. gipper913 says:

Wow….that is a woman to hold onto if she goes for naming the kid after Mets themes!!!!!

  28. cver says:

Congratulations Mike, Christine and Carter Shea!

  29. Hazmet says:

Congratulations!!!! Hope Mom & Child (and Dad) are doing well. Those late night feedings are just one more thing to do during those West Coast swing games. Great name. I feel like we finally have a name out there to counteract Chipper’s kid. Revel in the anti-Chipper. Good job.
