Actually his strikeouts/AB were about the same last year as in ‘06.

He’s gotta mash this year to make it. Given last year he was somewhat hampered, he’s still got the potential to do it, but this is probably his last chance to show he can be a full timer in the bigs.

You know, I was actually encouraged by Carp’s numbers at AA last year. If you compare with his first year in St. Lucie, he cut down on the strikeouts, and even though his power numbers were down, he was still productive. So I’m confused as to why he’s not in camp. They must know something that we don’t, or else this makes little sense.

He’s probably a long shot to ever be on the team, but worth keeping an eye on.

Barring injuries and given the status of options and guaranteed contracts the roster is fixed, nobody really likely to be knocked out of group given mets reluctance to lose a player on waivers without getting soomething in exchange.

Starters – Schneider, Delgado, Castillo, Reyes, Wright, Alou, Beltran, Church

Bench is fixed with Castro, Easley, Chavez, Anderson, Gotay

Rotation Santana, Martinez, Maine, Perez, Hernandez
Pen – Wagner, Heilman, Sanchez, Feliciano, Schoenweis, Wise, Sosa

Of course injuiries are certain to strike aready guys like El Duque, Sanchez, Chavez have uncertainty in their health.

This would give shots to pelfrey, Abreau, Lugo, Register, Smith, Saenz, Brady Clark

Adam Rubin over at the Daily News has a full list of the entire advanced camp roster which includes “Angel Calero, Nick Carr, Stephen Clyne, John Holdzkom, Scott Moviel, Eric Niesen, Elvin Ramirez, Lucas Duda, Nick Evans, Juan Lagares, Richard Lucas, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Gregory Veloz, Sean McCraw, Francisco Pena, Ezequiel Carrera, Brahiam Maldonado, Richard Pena and Raul Reyes”

No Mike Carp.

Too bad for Carp. I loved him last year(ST). I was fired up that he was in line to replace Delgado. Don’t be surprised to see him late this year or next.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say Carp will be a part of the club at some point. He has this year to prove it though.

After looking it up, I guess not. He’s only going to be 22 this year – but MLB player search doesn’t have him listed on any team. Hmmm.

He is solid offensively. 2yrs ago he was mashing AA ball in binghamton. But last year he lost his whole season due to Visa problems. Obviously back in the mix this year but only as you said…AAA full timer who can come up if needed due to Delgado injury.

Maybe I have this wrong, but isn’t Carp a little old to be a prospect?

I don’t think he’s Ryan Howard (which would mean he would be worth the wait) but I think he’s about at or past the point where he needs to show he’s got what it takes.
