Read: Pelfrey hopes to be Better

by Matthew Cerrone on February 28th, 2008 at 8:05 am

During yesterday’s loss to the Tigers, Mike Pelfrey started and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just a base hit and striking out one while facing Curtis Granderson, Placido Polanco, Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera, among others.

Pelfrey, on experience, while talking to reporters…

“Last year was the first time in my life I actually had to handle adversity.  The games have always kind of come easy for me.  I’ve been able to throw the fastball and get by with it.  Last year I struggled.  It was tough going through it for the first time.  I tried to stay positive, and I’d like to think I’ve learned from it and it’s made me a better person and a better competitor.”

some fans and baseball people are so quick to judge, that failure is often seen as a bad thing…the reality is that by failing, in baseball and in life, it provides an experience to adjust, get up, get better, learn and move forward with more knowledge than ever before…so, the next time failure is on the horizon, we can avoid it…i’m looking right at you, Jose Reyes

amLinks: Pedro, Mr. Met, Wagner and Milledge

by Matthew Cerrone on February 28th, 2008 at 7:56 am

Lastly, according to Ken Rosenthal at FOXSports.com, the essence of Pedro Martinez could help the Mets contend in 2008.

David Wright, on Martinez, as quoted by Rosenthal:

“He’s one of our emotional leaders.  He has this knack of keeping everybody smiling and laughing, but still motivated at the same time.  Just his presence gives a team a little lift emotionally, doesn’t allow losing streaks to go on so far.”

In a column for ESPN.com, Jim Caple goofs around and writes a phony, spring-training notes column for every major-league team.

For the Mets, he writes, among other things:

General manager Omar Minaya admitted that he faces felony grand theft charges for stealing LHP Johan Santana from the Twins. … Mr. Met vigorously denied Kirk Radomski’s charge that his head is so big because the former clubhouse attendant supplied him with regular doses of HGH.  He did, however, say Mrs. Met used the drug while preparing for a Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot.”

According to the Brooklyn Met Fan, Billy Wagner is ‘a little nutty,’ but we love him anyway.

Lastings Milledge is barking about the Mets again, according to a report by Adam Rubin in the Daily News.

Lastly, at Hot Foot, Andrew Beaton concludes his two-day interview with Tim Marchman from the New York Sun.
