by Matthew Cerrone

Today in Jupiter, Fla., the Mets will take on the Cardinals,

To get live, written updates from the pressbox, check out blogs for the Journal News, Newsday and the Daily News

John Maine will start for the Mets, followed by Duaner Sanchez, Scott Schoeneweis, Joe Smith, Steven Register and Juan Padilla.

Speaking of Maine, read Bart Hubbach’s report in the New York Times, as the two talk about cross-dressing impersonators.

Meanwhile, SS Jose Reyes will bat lead-off, followed by CF Fernando Martinez, 3B David Wright, 1B Carlos Delgado, LF Moises Alou, RF Ryan Church, 2B Ruben Gotay, C Brian Schneider and DH Marlon Anderson.

reyes…f’mart…wright…well, that’s pretty cool to see

Speaking of Martinez, to check out video of him taking batting practice, go to Reel Sports.

Johan Santana will start tomorrow at Port St. Lucie against Cardinals, while Oliver Perez will start against the Dodgers on Saturday.

The most important line may come from Juan Padilla. I expect Sanchez to be ok this season. Maybe not dominant but above average. But, what if Padilla came back to his earlier form?

harrychiti February 28, 2008 at 1:03 pm

maybe so.

Certainly he’s performed well in the past. I feel its guys like Padilla–guys that you just don’t know what you are going to get–that make and break bullpens.

If Padilla has the most important line, would register be next?

zer09 February 28, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Anyone know why the audio isn’t working through mlb.com? I don’t even see the link there for the radio…

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Question for Matt, do you just bold random names in your post?

ghobot February 28, 2008 at 2:40 pm

like this i believe?

the words you want to be bold

*= the letter B

ghobot February 28, 2008 at 2:44 pm

sorry, it wont let me show, so look at the the instructions at the bottom of the post field.

you can use HTML. so for bold you want to put

for this example, the side ways carrot, or less than sign,” “, closes the argument

so in this example, i will replace the greater than and less than symbols for the [ symbol
so if you want to do bold its:

the words you want to be bold
dont forget the black slash on the other side. try it!

you can do that with all the functions matt wrote in the instructions over add comment.

ghobot February 28, 2008 at 2:46 pm

hahaha just read this url because its too hard to explain without the html being done

Here is a site that shows you how to write bold in HTML

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Just out of curiosity, is anyone able to hear the game using MLB Gameday Audio? all i get out of them, is

“We apologize for the inconvenience.
We are currently undergoing maintenance to make your experience better, please try back later.”

ryanyhc February 28, 2008 at 12:51 pm

same. hopefully its up in 10-15 minutes. :[

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Well, hopefully they get the kinks out in ST this year, as plenty of times last year, i went to listen/watch an actual regular season game, only to have GamedayAudio/Video give this same sort of nonsense, (or worse, tell me the game was blacked out when it shouldnt have been)

DjDeF February 28, 2008 at 1:02 pm

The link matt put up is for yesterdays game. If you click next day there is no link in the Mets/STL line. Maybe there is no audio for this game

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 1:05 pm

I didnt follow the link he put up i used my own MLB Gameday Audio bookmark., And up until 3 minutes ago, the Mets game was listed as being live on the away feed from KTRS.

m00kie February 28, 2008 at 1:12 pm

definitely looks like mlb.com dropped the game.. oh well I should probably work today anyway ;)

Peter February 28, 2008 at 1:14 pm

I still see it listed as available, yet I can’t access it . . .

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 1:14 pm

Yep, looks like MLB.com dumped us. Oh well, pity XM isn’t broadcasting the game,

In this day and age of technology, i’m still suprised every ST game isn’t on TV, Satellite and the Internet.

Peter February 28, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Whoops, wrong day . . .

lemmoth February 28, 2008 at 1:49 pm

i can’t get in either – there wasn’t even an Icon available

thejuggernaut February 28, 2008 at 12:51 pm

nice to see f’mart with a bat in his hands

tfc3rid February 28, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Seems that MLB Gameday Audio is down right now… Hopefully it will be up sometime soon…

The game is supposed to be avaialble via audio… currently none of the games are streaing as Gameday Audio is out…

backinbusiness February 28, 2008 at 1:10 pm

on the ktrs website, it says its first game is march 1…

tfc3rid February 28, 2008 at 1:11 pm

The link to any broadcast of this game is now gone…

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 1:11 pm

The Mets/Cards game is no longer even listed.

Do you by any chance have the direct link to the game? just in case MLB fixes gameday audio,.

Roach2 February 28, 2008 at 1:09 pm

Read Rubin’s blog…it’s a good read today.

Among the highlights:

- He said Duque will be starting on Monday against the Braves
- Jacobs seemed to be taking delight in the fact that they knocked the Mets out in the final game of the season (i dont have a problem with that…i just hope he goes 1-30 against the mets this year)
- Interesting exchange between Minaya and Joe McIllvaine

Xavier22 February 28, 2008 at 1:14 pm

I guess Scott Spezio won’t be in the lineup for the Cards *chuckle*

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 1:15 pm

He says he’s innocent, that it wasn’t him, it was some other scary looking dude with a dyed red dead cattipillar on his chin!

backinbusiness February 28, 2008 at 1:15 pm

maybe kevin burkhardt can text us the play by play

timbuck5 February 28, 2008 at 1:22 pm

any update on where we can listen to the game

Nate W. February 28, 2008 at 1:23 pm

1:16 p.m.: David Wright was robbed of an RBI double in the first inning. Center fielder Rick Ankiel ran down Wright’s shot to right-center and made a headfirst, diving catch on the warning track. The Mets stranded Jose Reyes, who singled through the left side of the infield against righthander Anthony Reyes to open the game. It’s Mets 0, Cards 0, middle of 1st.

from Ruben, he is doing sporadic updates of the action

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:27 pm

Maine, hitless 1st inning. SO of Kennedy.

backinbusiness February 28, 2008 at 1:28 pm

the not-so-live boxscore is available from mets.com

as of now:
Maine: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 K, 1 groundout, 1 flyout
Reyes: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 3 flyouts

johnnyrotton February 28, 2008 at 1:27 pm

lasting milledge:

2-3, single, double, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases

that trade is just sickening and will haunt the mets for 10 years

he will at the very least have a manny ramirez/gary sheffield type career

and he could have had it with the mets.

but instead they have ryan f-ing church

g-damn it minaya – YOU SUCK AND YOU SICKEN ME

oh yeah…and mike jacobs, who hit a 2 run home run, will outperform carlos “bored” delgado

i’d be so pumped to watch a team with milledge in right, jacobs at first and gotay at 2nd.

instead there are retreads there who suck and who i have no desire to watch.

minaya blows.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 1:28 pm

noone cares in this thread…please move along

Hit The Weights Zeile February 28, 2008 at 1:33 pm

thats a pretty awful fielding right side of the entire baseball field. jacobs gotay milledge. lefties would have a .500 obp against that defense

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:36 pm

Why rationalize with someone who does not want facts? He is just posting to make fun of others and has nothing better to do.

Hit The Weights Zeile February 28, 2008 at 2:21 pm

i know just that thought to me was funny i was trying to actually imagine that, balls just being misjudged, foul ball pop ups and bloopers falling in left and right due to miscommunication groundball DPs would be non-existant if hit on the right side

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Hey it’s that returnofiremetsmanagement guy. Nice to see you changed your name. The other was spelled wrong anyway.

jbinva February 28, 2008 at 1:40 pm

So is this one.

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:41 pm

I noticed that too, maybe that’s a trade mark

ravi3 February 28, 2008 at 1:56 pm

firemetsmanagement could have had a cool little star wars thing going…the next few times he gets banned, he should chose from the following:

phantomfiremetsmanagement
thefiremetsmanagementwars
revengeofiremetsmanagement
firemetsmanagementstrikesback

I’m partial to the latter two.

If he ever changes his tune, he could go with:

anewfiremetsmanagement

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:58 pm

I think he broke the chain with Johnnyrotton but nice idea. Maybe we will see some of those names.

shea_guevara February 28, 2008 at 1:34 pm

he will at the very least have a manny ramirez/gary sheffield type career

wow, it must be great to see that far into future. you should play the stock market! or go to vegas!

or better yet, just go away.

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Give the guy a break, he has identity crisis. He has had so many screen names over the past year.

i hate tommy herr February 28, 2008 at 2:15 pm

he will at the very least have a manny ramirez/gary sheffield type career

yeah, he will definitely have at least a comparable career to manny ramirez, aka the best right-handed hitter of this generation.

Hit The Weights Zeile February 28, 2008 at 2:23 pm

at least

help-a-rascal February 28, 2008 at 4:00 pm

at most, he’ll play for 27 years. he’ll have 5, 284 hits, 1,349 hr, 10,023 rbi, and a .397 avg. oh, and don’t forget 25 gold gloves.

i mock you, as does john lydon.

TheLiability February 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Yeah I guess getting Maine and Perez for nothing is awful. Jacobs who cant hit an 8 yr old lefty and hardly stays healthy is a stud just waiting. Millege had a great ST game lets put all our eggs in that performance. Come on man dont be an idiot, think…. unless your from Philly.

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Ok, we really have to stop returning with logic. This guy is just here for fun and does not take this blog serious. He has had about 15 different screen names this month alone.

NYMetz6986 February 28, 2008 at 2:07 pm

it’s funny, neither of these guys are even in the box score today…so either this guy has some sort of new knowledge or he’s succeeded in throwing everyone hear for a loop…what a moron this guy is tho

NYMetz6986 February 28, 2008 at 2:10 pm

turns out those were yesterdays stats…so i guess we’re both morons haha

Mister Koo February 28, 2008 at 1:41 pm

Jay Payton used to tear it up in the minors and spring training as well.

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Yeah, but Jay Payton has only had an average career and would not suite the attempt at a point by the currently named Johnnyrotton.

Mister Koo February 28, 2008 at 1:49 pm

That’s just the point. He only turned out to be average with no baseball instincts. Just as Milledge probably will be.

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:53 pm

I completely understand but again do you really think that Johnnyrotton cares? He is just here to goof off.

Mister Koo February 28, 2008 at 1:55 pm

True true.

Deadpanwalking February 28, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Bah. Milliage may be good but I don’t like him in the Mets clubhouse. He had weekly issues with veterins and besides that the man can’t rap to save his life. I say good riddance.

ArmandoReynoso February 28, 2008 at 5:06 pm

“he will at the very least have a manny ramirez/gary sheffield type career”…

dude, I just want to know what you’re smoking? b/c it’s some powerful s#%t. you’re so clearly out of your mind — it’s really not worth responding to you…

red high tops and a mets cap worn backwards February 28, 2008 at 1:33 pm

off topic, but isn’t the yearly subscription to mlb.tv like more than twice as expensive this year? i’m glad to see mlb.com putting what could have been my booze money to good use

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Much more expensive and as I have dish network I can’t get the TV version. Now I have an interesting decision to make.

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 1:43 pm

They automagically take it out of my bank account yearly, so i didnt even see what the cost was this year. How much is it?

As for seeing it on TV, DirecTV thinks i live in Brooklyn still, so even though i live out of state, i still get SNY… shhhh don’t tell them!

otherwise, i’ll have to watcn MLB.TV on my PS3..

red high tops and a mets cap worn backwards February 28, 2008 at 1:54 pm

$90. i rationalized it by telling myself just over $11/month isn’t horrible, so they better get their act together before march starts >:O

mhochman February 28, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Hmm, I’m not sure if thats much more than i paid last year for the full superdeeduper mlb.com package, i honestly can’t remember.

theperfectgame February 28, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Not 100% sure, but they look like the same prices as last year. I definitely paid around $120 for mlb.tv premium last year, and I seem to remember having to decide if the extra $30 would be worth it.

MetNTX February 28, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Same exact prices as last year

red high tops and a mets cap worn backwards February 28, 2008 at 3:04 pm

i just checked and i paid $29.95 last year for the yearly subscription…but i also bought it in april, rather than paying for it in february like i did this year. i’m not sure if spring training is worth $60.

Nate W. February 28, 2008 at 1:33 pm

“We’re headed to the bottom of the second, still scoreless. John Maine tossed a 1-2-3 first.
Ryan Church had a checked swing infield single in the top of the second, but was erased on a 5-4-3 double play by Ruben Gotay.”

DaWrightStuff February 28, 2008 at 1:43 pm

where’s our play-by-play man from yesterday?

Nate W. February 28, 2008 at 1:47 pm

presumable still in Lakeland with the Tigers…?

the game isnt on audio anywhere, so there is not much to give in the way of live updates.

therealsince86 February 28, 2008 at 1:43 pm

Now my boxscore is frozen.

KFS February 28, 2008 at 1:47 pm

MLB audio is up and running but no feed for the Mets. WTF is WFAN doing?

mrose February 28, 2008 at 1:49 pm

1:42 p.m.: Maine’s outing is done, having failed to complete the second. He allowed his first second-inning run on a wild pitch that scored Troy Glaus. A Juan Gonzalez single, a Cesar Izturis walk, then aJason LaRue single plated a second run. A bloop over David Wright’s head by Adam Kennedy then scored Izturis. Maine was pulled in favor of Scott Schoeneweis with two runners in scoring position. Cardinals 3, Mets 0, bot 2nd, two out.

The Mets are clear in ScrubGate from Lakeland. “We spoke to them and were satisfied with their response,” MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said.

Metsnumba57 February 28, 2008 at 1:49 pm

1-0 cards

oh well, this is what the spring is for…

Airfeet February 28, 2008 at 1:52 pm

Maine is the man and packs a fat lip…he’ll be fine

tfc3rid February 28, 2008 at 1:59 pm

Juan Gonzalez?? Holy crap…

GetsByBuckner415 February 28, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Seems like the collapse is still going strong…we couldn’t beat a college team and lost to the Tigers yesterday, are losing to the Cards today…don’t get giddy yet fellow Met fans….Just Kidding.

Airfeet February 28, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Yeah when is the last time we’ve won a game? arent we like 0 for our last 20…i know its spring training but it would be nice to see a single victory every once in awhile, i cant even remember the last time we’ve won a game

KFS February 28, 2008 at 2:04 pm

second to last game of the season…felt like it’s been 10 years.

bigNJ February 28, 2008 at 2:05 pm

the one hitter thrown by none other than johnny maine

Roach2 February 28, 2008 at 2:06 pm

Uhhh….interesting, considering today’s starter nearly threw the team’s 1st no hitter the second to last game of the season in a rout against the Marlins

Airfeet February 28, 2008 at 2:06 pm

oh yeah cant forget that…still can’t believe that lil trickler cost us a no hitter…i think everyone can agree that if it wasnt for that Maine would have had the no hitter no question…he was untouchable that game

jamie February 28, 2008 at 2:23 pm

man, I forgot about that!

Hit The Weights Zeile February 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm

i was there and i gotta say that dribbler still bothers me. it was like as we were slowly dying from the collapse some scrub named hoover came over and kicked us in the nuts for no reason. theres no doubt he wouldve gotten the no hitter he wouldve faced 8-9-1 in the 9th and by then ramirez had been taken out of the game.

GetsByBuckner415 February 28, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Looks like Padilla had a good inning of work 1.0 IP 1 H 1 K.

Airfeet February 28, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Does anyone know if Martinez hit was an xtra base hit or just a single…it doesnt post it on the boxscore

tfc3rid February 28, 2008 at 2:26 pm

Did Brain Schneider get hurt or did they seriously keep him in for like 3 innings?

Roach2 February 28, 2008 at 3:05 pm

That’s usually the norm for the first week of ST games….don’t freak out

GetsByBuckner415 February 28, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Total Bases (TB on the box score) shows Martinez has 1 TB or a single.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 2:35 pm

2:32 p.m.: The Cardinals scored two runs in the fifth against Ruddy Lugo. It’s 5-0 after five.

5and7 February 28, 2008 at 2:36 pm

if anyone cares, the phillies scored 5 runs in their half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead and then instantly gave up 5 runs in the next half to give up the lead. With their pitching that will be the trend this year

tinathemetsgrl February 28, 2008 at 2:36 pm

3-0 cards t5

pittsbugh takes the lead against the phillies, 6-5!! :pirate pride:

tinathemetsgrl February 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm

ahh 5-0 now

oh well. phillies MO is still the same. score 5, give up 5.

Hit The Weights Zeile February 28, 2008 at 2:42 pm

you know whats ironic about that down the stretch of the collapse the phillies won the division thanks to the mets basically playing like the phillies did for the first 5 months of the season. score runs, allow more, lose.

5and7 February 28, 2008 at 2:44 pm

very true

tinathemetsgrl February 28, 2008 at 2:44 pm

exactly. that’s all they did all year, and against really awful teams, like the nationals and the pirates. lol. we sadly gift wrapped that division for them. oh well, i’m over the past =)

GetsByBuckner415 February 28, 2008 at 2:56 pm

And the rout is on Cards 7-0…the way Joe Smith is pitching so far…he can kiss his chance of making the big club goodbye.

CitizenSnips February 28, 2008 at 3:08 pm

The offense isn’t exactly supplying ample run support either…

5and7 February 28, 2008 at 2:57 pm

I just realized what the mets are doing. They want Johan to be on the mound for their first win of spring training and of the regular season. Lets all just look forward to tomorrow

mrose February 28, 2008 at 2:58 pm

i’m fine with this….lets get the losses out of the system now
lol

mrose February 28, 2008 at 3:04 pm

uugh
listening to mike and the angry puppy right now… i don’t know why

a yankee fan asked whos the better team right now, mets or yanks
mad dog with no hesitation said “yankees causeo f the bullpen”
Fat man said “well, its a toss up, but the yankees have the better lineup and bullpen”

ugh i hate these two

CitizenSnips February 28, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Which one is the bandwagon Yankee fan? I’m sorry but converting to a winning team cause your team sucks should invalidate any opinion you have.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 3:08 pm

of course the yankee caller was not caring what dog’s opinion was…but when mike said toss up hes like
“awww …really?”

tinathemetsgrl February 28, 2008 at 3:09 pm

mike and the angry puppy! boycott! the last time i was listening they were droning on and on about how johan wouldn’t want to play in queens, but in the bronx.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 3:23 pm

tina, trust me, i’d rather not, but i hate sitting in silence at work..i’m sick of my ipod…I listened to the whole opie and anthony show…and the mets game isn’t on radio…

Maybe i should start listening to something on my online xmradio account

anyone know a good show on xmradio around this time?

coolio83 February 28, 2008 at 3:45 pm

sh*td*ck.

ixnaycb20 February 28, 2008 at 3:22 pm

Yeah I heard that comment and Im still trying to figure that out.
There are some writers picking the Mets as the best team overall….
How can it be a toss up between the Yanks and Mets?
The Yankee rotation is a question mark…
Wang, Mussina, Hughes,?,?
Mets
Santana, Martinez,Maine, Perez, ?
Yanks Bullpen
Joba, Hawkins, Mo
Mets Bullpen
Sanchez, Heilman, Wagner
The line ups..
the Yanks have advantages at 2B,3B(not by much), Catcher, RF
Mets advantages at CF, LF
The bullpens (Assuming 06 Sanchez) and line ups cancel out and then Mets take the edge with the rotation.

BigHangWithEm February 28, 2008 at 4:08 pm

ixnay, you forgot to add feliciano to the Mets’ pen.

The Jankos have a good lineup, comparable to the Mets. Both have big ?? that need to be answered though:

Alou’s health
Delgado bouncing back
can Church keep improving (I think Church is going to be a steal)?
are Damon and Matsui done?
where to fit Giambi if he can stay healthy?
can a 38 year old catcher keep improving?

the Jankos biggest obstacle this year will be their awful pitching staff. The Mets’ staff is pretty damn good.

After Wang, Pettitte, Rivera there is nothign but BIG BIG question marks.

I think Mussina is done, the two kids tagged for the rotation, Hughes and Kennedy, won’t give more than 120~150 really really good innings, at best (though it will be more like a handful of good starts from the mall season). Add the pressure of not getting Johan in exchange for those two, that could also be a problem with the “patient” Janko fans.

Look for Kei (though his first name should really be BB) Igawa to get anywhere between 10 to 20 starts, almost all will be a disaster.

Hawkins and Farnsworth are … ummmm …. jokes? yes big, stinky, expensive jokes.

Joba is just a kid, a kid with tons of pressure and the Jankos have an insane, career suicide plan in place for him this year (putting him in the pen and then sending him down for a month, mid-season, to stretch out his arm, are they crazy? he already has arm issues).

The one guy NO ONE is talking about for some strange reason, Albandejo, was lights out in August and Sept. against the Mets whenever the Nats brought him into a game. For my money, he’s the Janko pen’s X-factor.

metsin080910 February 28, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Maine was not so impressive today, i guess the positive out of todays 7-0 loss is Padilla was effective, also Reister was after giving up a leadoff hit he retired the side. I’m looking forward to the first game on t.v tomorrow and Johan getting his first work as a Met. Also, I am going to the game on March 15, anyone know who will be pitching? If I am right I think it is Johan but anyone know for sure?

backinbusiness February 28, 2008 at 3:27 pm

So far:

Maine 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 16.20 ERA
Schoeneweis 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Padilla 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0.00 ERA
Lugo 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 18.00 ERA
Smith 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 18.00 ERA
Register 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0.00 ERA
Field 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0R, 0.00 ERA

At least in terms of pitching, this is encouraging. In spite of all of the grief we gave him, Schoeneweis had a strong enough end of last year. Padilla coming back earlier than expected from injury is great. Register is the Rule V guy right? So anything we get from him is a bonus. And I don’t even know who Field is, so that has to be good!

backinbusiness February 28, 2008 at 3:28 pm

sorry, i followed the instructions above too literally. my bad.

Slob February 28, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Stephen Register is the Rule 5 guy. Nate Field was just some scrub free agent. The other nobody hanging around is Brian Stokes. I expect these three guys to lead us to World Series championships for years to come. Hall of Famers, all three.

Frank Gaffington February 28, 2008 at 5:09 pm

I[‘m not quite sure why everyone was so high on Scho when Minaya signed him. Did I miss something? When was he actually good? He had one good year in his entire career out of the pen. I assume he will improve on last year’s performance…it would be hard not too, however, I don’t count on him for much more than 6th inning/lefty matchup. I my mind there are 4 or 5 guys ahead of him in the pen.

kowalski69 February 28, 2008 at 3:33 pm

guys dont feel that bad.

Boston is beating boston college 22-0, and theyre throwing a combined 1 hitter.

shea_guevara February 28, 2008 at 3:35 pm

Anybody know what happened to Duaner? I thought he was supposed to throw today?

Nate W. February 28, 2008 at 3:39 pm

looks like Dauner was scratched from todays game.

I wonder if he is still a couple weeks away from being ready to face hitters…

NYMetz6986 February 28, 2008 at 4:06 pm

yeah i doubt it had something to do with him not being ready…i mean he was scheduled to pitch…hopefully they just want him to pitch tomorrow at home or something…but if matt could let us know for sure that would be great.

Boston just beat Boston College 24-0 in 7 innings. So, um, is Boston College a really bad team or are the Red Sox a really really good team?

mrose February 28, 2008 at 4:01 pm

looks like Washington won 16-0 over Georgetown also

FBones24 February 28, 2008 at 4:06 pm

…and in case anyone is scared to talk about it…we tied Michigan…barely!

BBBAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Opening day please?

METS08WSCHAMPS February 28, 2008 at 4:18 pm

The big news from the postgame: Duaner Sanchez was scratched from today’s trip with what the Mets called “normal soreness.” Willie Randolph maintained he’d pitch tomorrow against the Cardinals in Port St. Lucie.

“Sometimes you’re a little sore or whatever,” Randolph said. “It’s early in the spring. Just pushed back a day. He’ll be ready to go tomorrow. … It’s nothing to be concerned about. Sometimes guys, day-to-day, are a little sore. It could be anywhere on their body. And that’s what he said he was, so he’s pushed back a day. Don’t read into that any more than the fact that every pitcher sometimes will get up in the morning and not feel right. Give him an extra day, that’s all.”

FBones24 February 28, 2008 at 4:26 pm

He’s been working out for 18 months straight rehabbing. He is supposedly in better shape then ever and ahead of everyone else in camp. Yet, he is scratched for “normal soreness?” Something doesn’t make sense here.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 4:28 pm

could have been something that he technically faced hitters for the first time on Monday….

I hope thats all it is

shea_guevara February 28, 2008 at 4:36 pm

On Monday, he threw for the first time in 18 months. I’m willing to not panic. If he felt any discomfort at all, the Mets might have wanted to play it safe and not send him on the road.

Unless he doesn’t throw tomorrow, or he does and looks terrible. Then I would panic.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 4:27 pm

to be somewhat fair…we played the 18th ranked team in the country, i don’t see georgetown or BC at least in the top 25

FBones24 February 28, 2008 at 4:32 pm

according to the NCAA site, Michigan is actually ranked 8th, not 18th. That would be even fairer, but still not fair enough to justify a tie.

mrose February 28, 2008 at 4:34 pm

i misread…
yea i know…
either way, i agree….can opening day please get here????

FBones24 February 28, 2008 at 4:36 pm

No doubt. Tomorrow is opening day lite… baby steps.

zen February 28, 2008 at 4:46 pm
