Actually, landing problems are more common….and most vulnerable when on the ground – runway incursions, etc. But, still….safest way to travel. I recommend taking a flying lesson – the 1/2 hr intro courses are fun, not too expensive, and gets rid of some of the mystery. Also, some airlines have an ausio channel on their audio system that broacasts the air traffic control radio….can be fun, informative and calming to hear the pilots’ chatter with the ATC.

Cerrone,

I love flying, I hope for turbulence….but, the best cure for fear of flying is to sign up for a half-hour introdcution to flying session with a flight instructor. When you get your hands and feet on the controls of a small plane both taxiing and in the air…..any fear tends to melt away. Turbulence feels more like a pothole than “oh, god we’re gonna die!’
