…well, that was weird…i don’t know how else to describe it…
…i met a bunch of fellow Mets fans at Duffy’s Sports Grill, many of whom are also fans of MetsBlog.com…in many cases, people came up to me and said hello and expressed how much they enjoy MetsBlog…and in a few cases, some actually wanted to take pictures with me, which is flattering, but, again, just really weird to me…
…equally weird is being in a bar…in Florida…surrounded by so many Mets fans…i mean, we were everywhere…at the bar…in the restaurant…behind the bar…everywhere…it’s so great…in New York City, i will see at least a few Yankees fans butting in…getting in the way…not here, though…not in St. Lucie…a thousand miles from home, and this is clearly Mets country…so much so that the bartenders are in Mets gear…in fact, they are serving the same aluminum bottles of Budweiser, with the Mets logo in it, that are served at Shea Stadium…
…even more weird is seeing a few players stroll in…they’re just minding their business…grabbing a drink…after work…just like you and i would do…in some ways, this is just normal stuff…guys…beer…after work…etc…you know, normal…the thing is, baseball players are not normally at my local happy hour…so it’s normal, but not that normal…

this sounds amazing. i’m going back to school for journalism.
Jose Feliciano?
It’s late. I’ve been up since 3 am. Obviously, I meant Pavarotti, not Jose.
hahha… Sounds like fun there, should make the trip next year.
I sure hope that you or somebody made sure that Duaner got home ok and didn’t need to take a taxi.
Yeah, is that like another version of “rocket surgery” or a genuine misprint?
Matt, I really admire your work. Keep it up…
Do it next year. I’ll be there!
So how much are the beers compared to Shea. It’ll probably be close to $10 by the time Citi opens.
When I go to the spring games on 3/9 and 3/10 I will definetly go to Duffy’s now to see if I can spot some Met players. What hotel are you staying at Matt? I booked Pine Villas at Perfect Drive and was wondering if that is where you are staying and if you like it there? Have you heard of any other bars/restaruants where players frequent in Port Saint Lucie so I know where my best chance to meet up with some of the guys are? Thanks.
I’m going to be at that same hotel on those same days. Small world…
Matt,
Will you be in Viera on Thursday? If so, I’ll keep my eye out & be looking forward to meeting the mastermind of MB haha. Can’t recall how long you said you would be in PSL for…
Thanks for all the updates & tidbits. A great heads up for those of us on our way to ST. Keep up the great work!!
i’m sorry i couldn’t make the two hour drive up 95, but we’re (my wife, really) are having a baby (our second) next week and we just had too much to do to get ready. i really wanted to come up and meet the guys.
Congrats and good luck. Sometimes there are bigger priorities than baseball. Sometimes. LOL.
Thanks! And, yes, I suppose you are right about priorities.
matt.
i respect you blog and work….
but stop being a wide eyed rookie.
your with the big boys… act like it!!!!!!!!!!
nothing is weird – because you earned it…
simple… act the part and be it
I think everyone who is a regular respects his work or they wouldn’t read the blog.
I think he should stay the same person he has been and not be “with the big boys” … he is giving us his insight as a fan.
We don’t know how he is around the other “big boys” in person, but I am confident he is professional … but he is writing for MetsBlog a blog for the fans by fans. And I hope that never changes.
Matt – Keep up the great work. I know I will be hitting up Duffy’s when I get down there is a couple of weeks.
It was an excellent time. Great to meet everyone. BTW, the beers were 241 all night….
Duffy’s is a fantastic bar. I have never seen so many TVs in one building in my life. I wish something like this existed in NYC.
Duaner is a funny guy…I had the comment about the taxi on the tip of my tongue but I figured he probably wouldn’t think it was funny. He seemed to be in good hands when we left though…I think the Mets personalities were starting to outnumber the fans in our corner of the bar.
Matt, it was nice to meet you and I hope I run into you again this week.
to those who have not gone to spring training, you must go at least once in your lifetime. i am fortunate enough to go every year being a florida native. it is my favorite time of year. it’s almost like you can not go out this time of year without running into a MLB player. i went to duffy’s after the game and got to meet matt himself, anthony, and zoe. pretty cool meeting people whose posts and blogs i read and refresh all day long. i did not stay long enough to meet any of the players this year though. spring training just begun and there is plenty of time for that! go mets!
