Kinda curious to see whether Abreu CAN handle big-boy pitching. .. and he IS another righty bat. If Delgado or Church remain issues heading into OD, why not bring both Michel and Ruben up north. (Gotay's a bit like Valentin... lefty masquerading as a switch-hitter.)

"Brady Clark drove in Michel Abreu to win the game in the bottom of the ninth."

I guess that's one way to put it. He got hit by a pitch.

I just finished stating that above i agree with you 100 percent that gives the mets 4 switch hitters more speed and makes the infield look much younger.

Fill-in first baseman? I vote Gotay.

First base doesn't require the range of second base, we don't have to worry about his shady turning of double plays, and having a first baseman in the lineup who can run, draw a walk, hit for some power, and swing from both sides of the place is a MAJOR plus. And, unlike Michel Abreu, we know he can handle major league pitching.

The good news is, the vets don't normally need as long to prepare as their muscle memories are already well ingrained.

In fact with the older players, it's maybe even a good thing they're getting the extra rest. I don't include Beltran in that, but I'm still not worried about him either. Beltran will play the regular season even if he's only 80% - and he'll still be the best center-fielder in the NL
