…i just finished watching Billy Wagner working on his curve ball…at first, he did a drill with Guy Conti supervising, during which he overemphasized the motion, while bouncing the ball intentionally on the ground to the catcher…
…Rick Peterson then waltzed up, and wagner switched to throwing from a full wind-up, which was odd to see…he looked like a starting pitcher, as you can see in the video below…in standard peterson fashion, a long line of string runs across home plate, held up by two sticks…it’s roughly a a foot or so off the ground…wagner was testing out the curve ball at full speed, and it looked good…every pitch was just around the line…

matt, what’s the weather like today down there? i noticed that peterson is the only one wearing a jacket…lol
Of course he is wearing a jacket…
Is anyone else doing work in the bullpen?
Nice… this website is improving greatly… and by the way, if SNY doesn’t give you a better video camera i think it would be a good investment to buy a quality one…. maybe i’m just used to the professional ones (which are probably out of the picture) but it seems like you can upgrade
Maybe Billy will finally get some big outs in big spots this year.
but if he typically doesn’t take video…its not the smartest investment
Hope that 36 year old elbow doesn’t get too stressed this year from throwing the Uncle Charlie for the first time.
Make sure everyone knows he has the curve, and use it just often enough so batters have to keep it in mind.
What he should be doing is trying to learn the change up from the master lefty. Could you imagine the damge he could do if he added Johans change up to his FB/Slider routine?
He should have pulled Glavine aside in the last few seasons if he wanted to learn that. Johan’s change is better; Wags could have had a good base on which to build a changeup on.
Is Wagner also working on a slower changeup? That might be a more effective and easier pitch to add to his arsenal than the curveball. Especially when measured against his fastball..
