    Who is Ted Berg?

  2. stickguy says:

This is unreal. At least Duque and Delgado you expect to be hurt or at least banged up. Gotay is one of the young guys that should be healthy!

So, let’s just assume it is broken and he is out 3 months, and move on to plan Q.

My guess? Valentin if he is healthy (doubtful), other wise Anderson Hernandez for the glove.

Unless the pick up another utility guy that can also play MI.

Still, with A Hern available, I still think 1B is a bigger worry, but I am taking a liking to this Abreu guy. Might just catch lightning in a bottle!

    • BigDaddyKirk says:

At this point, I’m open to signing any FA still available.

    • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

      3 months?

    • x-nady says:

word Is that the metsies are shopping both Sosa and show. Apparently they feel they have guys on camp that can fill their roles and this might be an indication that el duque could be moved to the pen.

Now we have a shortage of starting pitchers (although neise looked real real good. We may see him in the rotation next year is ollie and boras get greedy). You may see kyle loshe on this team before weeks end.

Anyway, one of the points I was trying to make in this rant, was if there are takers for sosa & or show, they will most likly get a 1b in return and sign a free agent.

I am scared of duque in any capacity right now. They should plan like they won’t have him this year.

  3. mackey_sassers_arm says:

Easley can play SS. I wouldn’t mind a bench of Endy, Castro, Easley, Marlon Anderson, and Pagan.

    • mets484 says:

      I wouldn’t either

    • ExileInLA says:

If that’s your bench, Mackey, then you have no IF depth on the day that Easley starts for Reyes or Wright. How scary is it to think of an IF of Delgado - Anderson - Easley - Wright?

      • stickguy says:

then Reyes would just come into the game.

But you are right, with that bench, DW and JR have to pretty much play every inning.

Right now, Easley still isn’t healthy enough (the ankle) to play, so you expect him, at 38, to be able to handle SS?

It is starting to look like the Mets may have to carry A Hern, and with 12 pitchers, that is not good.

        • mackey_sassers_arm says:

Well, they would have IF depth. if the bench guys are starting (5 games at 3B, 5 games at SS), then that’s Easley. Castillo and Delgado’s games are covered by Anderson and Easley. Endy, Pagan, Anderson, and Easly can all play OF. There is no need for backups for the bench players (A-Hern).

If our worst issue is that we won’t be able to field a great lineup with all of our backups playing at the same time, we’ll still be alright. It’s not like bobby v is filling out the lineup card on a sunday.

    • MudvilleNine says:

      Mackey
Can you see a 38 year old, coming off a leg injury that so far has kept him out of any ST games, subbing at SS even for one game? I dont see it. Easley does have some experience playing the position but that doesnt mean he is capable of playing it anymore. I’m not worried about him throwing out anybody from the hole because I dont think he can get to a ball in the hole anymore. If anything I could see them moving Castillo over to short and Easley playing second before we ever see Easley at short.

      • mackey_sassers_arm says:

I think you are wrong. Either his leg is healed or it isn’t. If it is healed, he can play short. If it isn’t, he can play for the marlins. there is no need to carry any one trick ponies on this team. cut him if he can’t play, but i know willie thinks he can still play.

        • rogasm says:

neifi perez is still out there.

        • MudvilleNine says:

He’s 38 years old. Shortstop is the most important infield position. He lost the secondbase job last year to Gotay due to his lack of range. So now you want to say he can cover short for a dozen games after a leg injury? Due to his leg injuries, people are talking about Castillo being slower and he’s 6 years younger. But Easley can come back from his and show no signs of it? How many middle infielders are playing at that age, especially at short? Nobody in the Mets organization even thinks he can play there, with Omar already saying what I said about moving Castillo over. They were even talking about it on tv saying that AHern might have to be on the team just to backup short. Dont fall into the trap that just because he hit a couple of big pinch hit homers and played decent, that he can do things like he did when he was younger.

  4. kendychavez says:

he hurt it sliding into home? see, you gotta slide head first like reyes

    • x-nady says:

iteresting point. I wonder of all the injuries sustained while sliding, were there more sliding head first or feet first.

  5. guierllNO MOta says:

What number will Scott Hatteburg be when he becomes a met?

Also, what number will Kyle Lohse be? and how much will Omar pay him 5MM?

  6. guierllNO MOta says:

also, I am not so sure that Pagan is the front runner for the back-up right handed OF slot, Brady Clark may be more suited and provided a veteran everyday presence we need off the bench.

  7. guierllNO MOta says:

Ted Berg from SNY correct? And he has posted here before correct?

  8. Steal Home Jose! says:

For all those who want to trade for Nick Johnson, check out the picture on ESPN’s mlb front page. Yikes…

    • m00kie says:

wow now that’s a gut..he makes dmitri young look thin

    • pedros rooster says:

Yeesh. Really bad angle. He looks like the 45-year-old guy on the company softball team who has to put down his hoagie so he can bat.

You’d think they could give him some clothes that fit (God help him if they actually DO fit)……

  9. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

sign kyle lohse and see what you can get for sosa and show, if its not much more than whats available through FA then sign someone. either way it starts with signing lohse, duque cant be relied upon and i dont like the idea of pelfrey in the 5th right away bc that means we have NO wiggle room if someone gets hurt.

    • stickguy says:

well, the primary guy to get hurt (Duque) already is, so that takes some of the pressure off!

It is quite possible that the rest of the rotation pretty much makes all there starts, with Pedro just getting a few passes when the schedule lets them, or maybe the long man can handle it. Or even if he makes a trip to the 15 day DL, that is only a few starts.

If that happens, the Armas, Vargas, Figeroa poo poo platter just might hold down the fort, especially if Pelfrey get locked into the rotation.

And frankly, Lohse might not really be much better than those guys, or even as good as Pelfrey.

  10. gipper913i says:

without Gotay the confidence rating will go from 86 percent to 86 percent. this change will move a mountain.

    oh look out …

    you scared ?

  11. gem779 says:

a little off-topic but anyone know where if and where I can find a metsblog.com T-SHIRT?? that would be soooo cool to have one but I can’t find one and am not sure they sell them…

  12. Charlie says:

so, all that talk about carp was just that, huh?

  13. Does anyone know why El Duque didn’t get surgery on his foot during the off season. If it’s a bunion that’s ailing him, why didn’t he get it fixed?

    • stickguy says:

on an earlier thread, someone posted that he was told it could take 2 years to heal after surgery.

Makes no sense to me, since the should be able to transplant on a new foot from a donor, and have him ready to go sooner than that.

So, probably the same reason Delgado didn’t bother to get his cranky hip treated either.

      • “Bunion surgery can be performed under local, spinal, or general anesthetic. The trend has moved strongly towards using the less invasive local anesthesia over the years. A patient can expect a 6- to 8-week recovery period during which crutches are usually required for aid in mobility. It is much less common today as newer, more stable procedures and better forms of fixation (stabilizing the bone with screws and other hardware) are used”.

Maybe he just didn’t want to waste his offseason on recovery..

    • itsmetsforme says:

he’s too old for surgery; wouldn’t have survived it!

  14. 3D says:

Everyone let’s get the Gotay Chant going to heal him.

    1, 2, 3.

    “GO-TAAAAAY. GOTAYGOTAYGOTAY…
    GO-TAAAAAAY,
    GO-TAAAAAAY.”

I hope to be doing that at Shea again this season.

  15. fortleemets says:

Is the 25-30 game spring training schedule worth the possibility of injuries? This is getting ridiculous.

    • QnsNative718 says:

Yea, the long spring training has been debated for some time. A reason for the 4 week pre season is mainly to help the pitchers out who do find it beneficial. I personally think there should be a 3 week spring training as oppossed to 4.
