Starting today, he will be in camp this week as a special instructor.

he is scheduled to speak with reporters later this morning, so i am sure the beat writers will be posting those quotes sooner than later…hopefully i will have a chance to meet him and do a quick Q&A later in the day…

Rubin: Mets Shopping Show and Sosa

by Matthew Cerrone on March 3rd, 2008 at 9:04 am

According to Adam Rubin in the Daily News, the Mets are shopping Scott Schoeneweis and Jorge Sosa.

In addition to considering several reasons why the team is looking to move the two relief picthers, while projecting what the pitching staff will look like if they do, Rubin writes:

“I wonder, too, if the Mets might relent and actually put El Duque in the bullpen.  They’ve adamantly said no, and Hernandez has said he doesn’t intend to be there, but maybe his foot will only allow him to pitch shorter spurts.”

i had been saying something similar all winter, in that putting el duque in the pen makes it easier to throttle his cartoonish health situationplus, he can always return to being a starter

……at any rate, as for actually moving show and sosa, i am very interested to see if any team bites…and if they do, why…

News: Mets are in Pain

by Matthew Cerrone on March 3rd, 2008 at 8:56 am

In the last few days, Ryan Church suffered a concussion, Marlon Anderson bruised his chest, Carlos Delgado hurt his hip, Brian Schneider has a strained hamstring and Ruben Gotay jammed his ankle.

…in fact, we saw gotay out and about last night in St. Lucie and he was on crutches and wearing a protective boot…he said he would only be out a few days…umm, dude, you were on crutches and wearing a boot…

By the way, Carlos Beltran, Damion Easley, Luis Castillo, Endy Chavez, Jose Valentin and Ben Johnson have yet to play in a game this spring.

For more on the injury bug, which is running rampant around Mets camp, check out the Bergen Record, New York Post and the Journal News.

In the New York Sun, Tim Marchman explains why this current wave of injuries simply hilights the team’s overall lack of depth.

someone i talked with yesterday said this is no big deal, that players always get knicked up like this as they work to get in shape through the spring…i don’t know, man, i’m still concerned…

…i mean, i’m sure they will all be fine, but this is starting to feel like a pandemic
