I guess the point is, the main thing he lacked was confidence to throw strikes (hence the walks), confidence he seemed to have gained.

You still haven't explained how he's supposed to get strikeouts when guys are sawing off their bats on the second pitch.

People have pointed to heilman's one hitter for years afterwards as (dubious) evidence he can pitch at the big leagues .. well I'll use the Braves game in a similar fashion, except we're looking at a young pitcher here, who is ready to break out... many of us see it, you are using stats to say it's not possible. Maybe we're just being "homers" or whatever stat guys love to say about "fans" but you can say "he'll never be good" and we can say "maybe he'll be good"

Bottom line ;) : the roto comment that he had a bad outing because he didn't K anyone was clearly a load of crap, if you watched his performance yesterday. That gives us hope. You want to use stats to douse the hope? Fine.

Nah, Ole' Sid said the same thing and they replayed it from 3 or 4 different angles and he looked safe. He only appeared to be out in the initial live play from behind. On the flip view it looked like he was safe.

wang is a severe outlier, and even so he's not really that great. and pelfrey doesn't have anything close to his control.

like almost all other pitchers, pelfrey needs to strike guys out to be successful.

He's so young though, and won't be playing in games for a while (I suspect he starts the season in a short season league).

I'm not complaining, Tejada quickly became one of my favorite players after signing with the Mets and the posting a .400+ OBP in the GCL.

It's just odd... but then again, half of the Mets major league team is injured... lol

there isn't an argument to be had. nothing has changed, he's still not striking guys out, so he's still not major league ready. we already saw it last year. he needs to refine his offspeed pitches first. period. paragraph.

yea, I saw it. he threw one very good game against the braves, the rest of the time he was throwing his garbage slider and telegraphed changeup and walking people left and right, like usual. i certainly didn't forget his 5 walk 6 run slop outing against the nationals the last week of the season, either.

final september line for pelfrey:

24 IP, 28 H, 2 HR, 15 BB, 18 K, 4.88 ERA.

that's supposed to convince me he should get the ball every 5th day?

seen several comments in response to the rumor about making Scho and/or Sosa available.......... based on last year's results who would want to trade for Scho at $7.0m ? Maybe he was pitching hurt most of the year but it's alot of money. In all likelihood a large amount of that salary would have to be eaten to move him.

I thought Sosa was our most reliable starter for a 6 week stretch early on. Didnt he start out 6-1 or 7-2 before reverting to craptitude in the BP ? I wouldnt be in a hurry to give up Sosa as he can effectively start and relieve. If he becomes consistent he could be valuable.

Glad to see Pelfrey get 3 innings instead of 2.. you can tell Willy/Rick are leaning towards him (and at this point they have no other choice with Hernandez really behind everybody) .. I only caught the 5 inning and above, Muniz didn't really pitch well.. And it looked like Abreu was really out on the play-at-the-plate, but whatever haha

Rincon looked very good I thought, especially with the last batter he faced; he consistently painted the outside corner .. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the BP, especially if the Mets deal Sosa/Schoewenweis
