In the New York Post, Bart Hubbach details recent talks between the Mets and John Maine regarding a contract extension.
…i just finished watching Orlando Hernandez throw roughly 40 pitches or so in a bullpen session…honestly, it’s impossible to tell if he looked good or bad…his delivery is a bit different…he was throwing sort-of sidearm at one point…
…he was being watched by Jeff Wilpon, Willie Randolph, Guy Conti, Rick Peterson, a few other coaches, and
a camera man who kept shifting angles, from behind el duque, to the side of the mound and behind the catcher…
…el duque told reporters after the session that he feels good, but does not know when he’ll pitch again…when asked if the new wind up will work for him, he held up crossed fingers on both hands, smiled and said, “I don’t know, everybody cross their fingers.”…
…if i am invited back to camp next year, SNY will clearly have to send me with some sort of steady-cam, because, thanks to my shaky hands, every video i have shot makes it look Port St. Lucie is home of the earthquake…
Tagged Orlando Hernandez |…i just watched Orlando Hernandez working on his delivery with Rick Peterson and Company…he then moved to the field to do some light throwing, using the new style…he is scheduled to throw from a mound at some point this morning…

According to the results of his CT scan, Ruben Gotay did not fracture his leg or foot, instead they are calling it a sprained ankle.
For more on Gotay, and the other Mets injuries, check out David Lennon in Newsday, as well as Joel Sherman in the New York Post, who writes that the Mets are back in the market for backups.
Speaking of backups, during his weekly appearance on WFAN yesterday, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said the Mets and Tigers are discussing a trade that would send Marcus Thames to the Mets for Jorge Sosa.
Also, in a second reporter for the New York Post, Sherman explains why he has tried to avoid the organizational spin regarding Carlos Delgado.
In the Bergen Record, Bob Klapisch breaks down Billy Wagner’s new approach to pitching.
Lastly, in Newsday, Lennon explains why Carlos Beltran is worried while recovering from off-season surgery.
…many of the players, reporters, etc, all room in the same condo-like
complex…so, in the morning, since everyone drives to work, everyone also sits in traffic together…car after car after car, most people with their blinkers on to turn on the road that leads to the stadium…it is no different than any other type of traffic…
…i parked my rental car in the lot this morning, grabbed my bag and made my way to the stadium…walking from the gate to the media room, Pedro Martinez had just got out from his car and passed me on his way to the locker room…i said, “Good morning,” and he nodded and said, “Good morning,” and off we both went to do our jobs…
