PSL: Morning, Sam
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 5, 2008 8:49 am

…many of the players, reporters, etc, all room in the same condo-like complex…so, in the morning, since everyone drives to work, everyone also sits in traffic together…car after car after car, most people with their blinkers on to turn on the road that leads to the stadium…it is no different than any other type of traffic…

…i parked my rental car in the lot this morning, grabbed my bag and made my way to the stadium…walking from the gate to the media room, Pedro Martinez had just got out from his car and passed me on his way to the locker room…i said, “Good morning,” and he nodded and said, “Good morning,” and off we both went to do our jobs

Listen to yourself Matt, Oh I just passed Pedro and was like whaaaaaaaaas up….. Thats great hhahha

  2. afama says:

Ok, is anyone else a little worried?

Castillo hasnt even done anything, beltran says were winning it but hasnt played yet. We dont have a 1st baseman, caus Delgado is not only done but hurt now. Alou is great, but when he plays….

I just am starting to see holes, and its making me nervous….

    Anyone else???

    • mza4eva says:

Let us not forget, Church’s concussion, Chavez’s ankle, Anderson’s Jaw, Gotay’s Ankle, Easleu’s Ankle, El Duque’s bunion, and oh Schnieder has a hammy issue also….did I forget anyone

      • stickguy says:

Church will be ready soon, anderson should be also. At least they don’t have problems that will prevent them from ding BB stuff (like bad knees).

Gotay seesm to really only have a sprain, so he could be back in the spring. Duque I have written off for the year to be conservative, but thankfully they probably won’t miss him (at least for a while). Schneider seems to be OK (from what matt reported), and should get game action at some point.

Easley and Chavez could be worse off then the others. Easley had a gruesome injury, and still isn’t healed, so will he be able to give them anything? And Chavez seems to be permanently hurt at this point, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he can’t go 4/1.

But, all is not lost. Endy really hasn’t done anything since “the catch”, so wil lhe really be missed, if Pagan can step in and give them a solid #4 OF? And Easley was clogging up the works as the RH bench guy with some pop, since I worry about him in the field. Say he got replaced by Thames, would it really be that great of a loss?

        • afama says:

          what about Beltran n Castillo?

        • Johan Santana says:

But, all is not lost. Endy really hasn’t done anything since “the catch”, so wil lhe really be missed,

Buddy, I’ve got three words that separate guys like you from diehard Mets fans like us –

          WALK
          OFF
          BUNT

        • Another Matt says:

          +500

Whatever happend to the points guy?

    • stickguy says:

      No, it is just you.

ST is too long for veterans. As long as they are working out on a program to get in shape and be ready for the season, that is what counts.

If Beltran and Castillo still can’t play when they get into the last 10 -12 days of games (say, starting nex Monday), then I would worry.

Delgado is a worry though. unless the treatment calms down the hip issue and he can start playing, and soon, he just might be done, since he looked really bad in the little action he saw.

At minimum he needs to knock the rust off and get his timing down. At worst, the hip is preventing him from swinging, and could be a chronic problem all year.

I think you will see a reinforcement soon for 1B. I doubt they want to roll the dice with Anderson/Easley/Abreu if Delgado can’t go.

“is this heaven?”— “no, It’s Port St. Lucie.”

  4. stickguy says:

we are jealous now, but remember, in a few days Matt has to go home to Ct., to a Yankee fan wife instead of a locker room full of Mets. Might be some pretty bad withdrawal symptoms!

  5. StrawberryCoke says:

First stop for Pedro – Mangu and coffee

    • kowalski69 says:

i was listening to XM175 in the morning coming into work the day that quote came out; ‘mangu and eggs.’ the hosts read it out as Mango, then laughed at the combination of mango’s and eggs.

theyve apparently never had dominican cuisine. they did however, show ignorance by making fun of it

  6. StrawberryCoke says:

First stop for “Pat The Bat” Burrell- He will just take the Man-goo

  7. amen1986 says:

Matt – if you’re going to sit down with Johan to go over his circle change, you can’t bask in the glory of saying good morning to Pedro. That session with Johan shows that you’re big time now. Can’t be bothered with the small stuff like “good morning”.

  8. PhillyMet says:

Great picture Matt! Love it. I like the way you report everything as if we are right there with you and not like some other run of the mill beat reporter hashing out the same old stuff. I vote for Matt to stay another week…

  9. Frank Gaffington says:

trade for x-man, whatever it takes!

  10. StrawberryCoke says:

I agree As well to get X-man Back-Give them Sosa, A-Hern,and schoenweis-Should be enough?

  11. amen1986 says:

Why would PIT want to take on Schoeneweis’ contract? He’s not cheap…

    • StrawberryCoke says:

Maybe So the Bucs can say “We got somebody listed in the Mitchell Report!” All jokes aside didn’t really plug in the #’s for salary. I would say Mets maybe eat some Big Schoe’s Salary but they may be kinda tapped out after last month’s shopping.Kinda curious what it would take though.

  12. djbutler says:

carpool, save the environment and make a new friend.

  13. Gaspar says:

Dang. I never see Pedro when I go to work in the morning ,,,,

  14. Wright Stuff says:

As a followup question to all of our injury issues…does anybody know if we are looking into Kyle Lohse? He may not be great but given that El Duque may not pitch this year, Mike Pelfrey still hasn’t shown he can do it, and the probability that we still have injuries later on in the year, why not at least look into the price of Lohse if he is willing to accept a one year deal? does anybody know?

  15. dayrunner says:

    you’re now officially an insider.

  16. TobeRinkler says:

So, Matt, what do these guys drive? Are any of them environmentally conscious, a la Prius or hybrids, or do they drive GWboxes like Clemens’ Hummer? Gearheads, a la hot rods? Limos, anybody?

  17. Anthony De Rosa says:

You are living the dream, my friend.

  18. gem779 says:

soooo cool, you portray your experiences really well…either that or I just envision them as being a million times cooler than what they are.

  19. WrightOn says:

At the risk of sounding like a Metsblog shill, these posts are absolutely fascinating to me. It’s weird to say because honestly, they’re highly mundane, but something about the fact that it’s so mundane featuring our favorite ball players makes it a must-read. Keep it going Matt, it’s clear that you’re having a blast.
