Watch: David Wright on ESPN First Take
By Brandon Eddy - Mar 5, 2008 3:12 pm

Mets 3B David Wright appeared on ESPN First Take today, and talked about last season’s collapse, Johan Santana, fantasy baseball and his prediction of Carlos Beltran winning the MVP, among other things.

On who he would take with the first pick in his fantasy draft, David said in jest:

“Clear choice would be myself. I can steal a few bags here and there if I need a fantasy win.”

Speaking of fantasy baseball, click here for ESPN.com’s 30 Burning Fantasy Questions where they breakdown the Mets rotation behind Santana.

I’d definitely take Wright first. He’s an exceptional 5 tool guy. Only behind A-Rod.

Gotta go with Jose first.
But David would be untradeable.

I got Wright, Reyes, and Peavy as my 3 keepers in a 12-team keeper league that drafts tonight. Needless to say, I’m planning on taking the whole league.

:-D

lol, i took you first last year, David. Your April made me considering trading you. Thanks for turning it around though. You kept my team afloat.

As big of a Wright fan as I am, you’d have to be crazy to not take A-Rod first.

(And I took Wright top 5 last year)

2008-03-05 15:26:35

Well of course, when i picked, Arod was already gone.

“If I have the first pick in my draft this year, I’m probably going to take David Wright. His combination of power and speed is amazing, and his lineup is stacked”

OFF TOPIC

Anyone buy MLB The Show ‘08 or 2K8 yet? I am debating which one to get and I can’t decide.

The Show has gotten some really good reviews, but as a Mets fan, idk if I could buy a game with Ryan Howard on the cover instead of Jose Reyes. Thoughts? Suggestions?

*Note: I still have PS2.

2 suggestions… buy a PS3 and the show. It is sick. Everything I’ve wanted in a game since I was a kid.

I’ve got 2K8..while it didnt have the best online reviews, i’m definitely liking it…The only wierd thing with it is the way the jerseys move around in the wind, other than that its great (though I do hate Joe Morgan)

Graphics are optimized for HD, and the look is fantastic. Smooth gameplay, that takes a little getting used to -especially on the pitching side- but the learning curve is made much easier by intuitive controls.

The biggest issue I have with it is the baserunning. After getting a hit, I’m sure I’m no tthe only one that presses the A button or something to speed up to the next screen….Problem is, that under the control config, pressing A will send your runner home, which generally leads to an automatic out, since runners don’t stop and start on a dime.

Based on one day of play, I’ll say that there may be other things that I haven’t noticed yet, but all in all, a solid game

i have ps3, and its a no contest, the show is far and away the best baseball sim out there. every aspect of the game is just so life like. and if it makes you feel any better the mets lineup is ranked ahead of the phillies (how im not sure) and overall are the phils are behind the mets and braves in the nl east.

I don’t think it is too crazy to have the mets lineup (healthy of course) ranked ahead of the phills. If the mets playes 81 of their games at Cit Bank and the phills playes 81 of their games at Shea, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mets scored more runs… does anyone know who scored more runs on the road last year??

MLB 2K8 is okay, there’s a big learning curve with all the new analog stick controls.

It’s a little frustrating at first, but it gets a lot better. I haven’t played the Show this year (I had it last year), but from what I’ve heard it’s the better game. MLB 2k8 is a little buggy and the frame rate on 1080i leaves a little to be desired.

haha apparently im the only 2k8 supporter….maybe its because i have never played The Show.

I just hope that EA goes ahead with its take over bid of Take Two….if that happens, they inherit the baseball exclusivity license, which could lead to the return of MVP in 2009…

As a Wii owner… i silently cry that I only have 2K8 with no online play to buy. I might have to forgo a new baseball game for the first time ever this year.

It’s a fine game, afterall I’m only playing on Pro and you can’t see how a game really is until you’re on the highest difficulty setting.

My biggest gripe is the frame rate, I can’t bring myself to lowering the resolution to 720i, it’s 2008, this should not be an issue. Hopefully there’s a fix soon.

I was a huge MVP fan before they got screwed over, so I’m still crossing my fingers for 2010 so I can the EA football/baseball products.

2k8 has 90 Minor teams, do they have the Staten Island Yankees and Brooklyn Cyclones? And do they have their stadiums?

2k8 is awesome…it is really good…AND jose reyes is on the cover…that alone should be the selling point…especially since ryan howard is on THE show’s cover….but if david wright was on the cover for the show again this year…it would have been a mets video game monopoly

I have an off topic question and I’m too lazy to check for myself. Have the Mets hit a homerun yet this spring? outside of Abreu’s game tying hit?

Comment by mackey_sassers_arm

Off the top of my head, I don’t think so. And the Abreu hit doesn’t count towards spring stats because it was against a college team. Although, Castro’s 3B should count as 1,000 HR’s as well as the team’s first no-hitter just based on how impractical it is.

I think Wright hit one, that might of been against a college team as well, not sure.

I think Wright would be the second or third offensive pick behind A-Rod and maybe Pujols. Considering that Wright should post 30 homers, 30 steals, .300+ average, 100+ RBI, 100+ Runs. Yeah, that’s a fantasy stud right there. Santana would be the first pitching pick, and depending on the league, perhaps the first overall pick.

Pujol’s saying he’ll go in for season ending surgery if his elbow flares up it scary.

Anyone here looking to join a Yahoo fantasy league? I have a 12 team set up (looking for 7 additional teams) with the draft scheduled for Friday 3/21/2008 at 9:45pm EST.

Active managers only and trash talkers are always welcomed…
