PSL: Delgado Hits, Catches and Runs
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 6, 2008 4:14 pm

i watched Carlos Delgado take some live batting practice today…he looked good, but casual…

…he then moved to first base, and picked a few grounders…again, nothing crazy…very, very casual…

…after which he jogged to the field, shagged some balls and stopped to talk with Darryl Strawberry for a few minutes…

…they did a lot of laughing…

…carlos then moved to the sideline to do some light jogging…

…i asked him how he felt, and he gave the standard, “I feel good,” which is better than not saying it at all

  1. well, can he still hit or not?

  2. BSMITTYFDNY says:

I wish him the best. We need him more than we think. On a side note…I read in a paper yesterday, a small blurb about Shea not allowing smoking anywhere this year. Not even on the ramps anymore. And not at Citi Field either. As a smoker I am not happy. Not even on the open air ramps away from others? Not right. Where are smokers rights anymore? Guees I will have to try to quit but a beer and a cigarette just go hand in hand. Damn.

    • 5and7 says:

As a nonsmoker I am ecstatic. Its gross walking down the ramps at the end of the game and kicking around cigarette butts.

      • BSMITTYFDNY says:

The butts are there for two reasons. People put them out on the floor and leave them in stead of exstinguishing and then throwing them in the trash like I do, and the workers who are paid to sweep just walk around with a broom doing nothing. Either way times have changed and its time to quit. I can remember being able to smoke on an airplane never mind a bar or restraunt. The plane was a bit much I admit as well as a restraunt ,but a bar? Still not over that one.

        • BringTheAppleLeaveTheCowBell says:

Soon I heard Rockaway is going no smoking !

        • Slob says:

I smoke and even I don’t like bars filled with smoke. God forbid anyone be inconvenienced by having to :::gasp::: go outside. What a tragedy.

        • BSMITTYFDNY says:

Leave it to you Slob to disagree with my opinion. Shocking. Would it matter what I said? Would you just disagree every time because you are jealous of my pension? Get over it.
Who is the apple/cowbell man above who knows Rockaway?

        • BringTheAppleLeaveTheCowBell says:

          Mets/Yankees Pouring Rain

Ventura beat us in the tenth

        • BSMITTYFDNY says:

          Still dont now. More clues?

    • plasto says:

We’ve just gotta get used to it, the way of the world. I’m not thrilled, but I need to quit again anyway.

On topic, good to know Carlos is back out there, at least a bit. I’m really looking forward to looking back on early spring from the vantagepoint of October and remembering how freaked out we all were.

Yes, I do enjoy deluding myself. Almost as much as I enjoy smoking.

    • Slippery Pete says:

      Smokers rights? Kidding, I hope.

Delgado needs to be the anchor for this lineup that he was in ‘06. Granted, we’ve got some other big bats in front of him that are likely to produce, but the pop he brings is irreplaceable.

    • jamie says:

I read that too. I bet they relax it a bit into the season though. I’m sure it’s a city thing, a la bloomberg, and I know tons of people will appreciate it, but that’s torture for smokers…3+ hours of beer and baseball on a summer night, and you can’t sneak a butt on the ramp? Boo.

    • FBones24 says:

I am a non smoker but I do have to agree with you. I am completely against these type of bans. Cigarettes can be legally purchased in this state by any 18 year old. There should be a designated smoking section on each level to accommodate people.

      • mackey_sassers_arm says:

Why do they take the caps off of pepsi bottles? If I am sitting next to someone eating peanuts, I don’t want his shells in my drink, let alone his clumsy children kicking it over altogether. If I spend $5 on a pepsi, please just give me the cap. I am in the upper deck, I can’t throw it on the field from there anyway.

        • MetsLv31 says:

Bottles can travel pretty far, especially if they have a long way to travel before they hit the ground. And even if you can’t reach the field, do you want to be the guy who gets a full bottle of Pepsi crash onto his head after falling 100 feet?

I feel your pain because it is annoying, but with idiotic fans (I’m looking at you Philly) rules like this are necessary. The real solution: buy a beer! =)

        • mackey_sassers_arm says:

Don’t get me wrong, I buy plenty of beer at games, but I am season ticket holder. Sometimes I don’t feel like drinking at the ballgame. And there are only so many $7 cans of Bud one can consume before thinking it might be smarter to relax at the game and get drunk afterwards.

        • Number41 says:

dude, bring a pepsi cap from home in your pocket and stop

        • mackey_sassers_arm says:

you see, it’s thinking like that which makes me proud to be a mets fan.

Although I still don’t care for their policy… They let me keep my cap at Pac Bell, although the beer was more expensive.

    • Saltzy23 says:

Wait….where the hell am I supposed to go to get ripped during the games now? Unacceptible….

Eh, whatever. I still have my spots.

  3. Did anyone just see matt’s last post? It disappeared right after I finished reading it. Weird

    • deport_liberals says:

I see it on the RSS, not the site. Second time that’s happened today.

  4. C Dubb says:

…”I feel good,” said Delgado. He then fell down the dugout steps and his arms and legs fell off.

  5. mza4eva says:

who do you think lies more…athletes or politicians?

    • darkstar73 says:

which lie do people in this society care about more? which should they care about more?

    • Another Matt says:

“I feel good” is a much less harmful lie than “Iraq has weapons of mass destruction”.

Even so, I’d still say politicians. They just plain talk more.

  6. Ok. this is definitely weird. Matt had just made a post about batting practice. Beltran, Chavez, Valentin and Castillo…they were all in good spirits….hitting the ball out of the park.even castillo hit one out and did a little dance after.
He then went on to say that jorge sosa and john maine were throwing in bullpen under watchful eyes of rick peterson and guy conti. He asked conti about wagner’s new pitching style. Conti answered him by saying billy needed to change it up since he’s been pitching for so many years.(something like that..I don’t really remember)

  7. mackey_sassers_arm says:

He needed to revise after castillo blew out both of his knees during his little dance.

  8. Donfrancis says:

Maybe I’m in the minority, but we dont need Delgado to do what he did in 2006. It would be great, but we can LIVE with what he did last year just at a different spot in the lineup. Drop him down a little bit.

Wright has emerged as the main hitter in this lineup. And Beltran will do his thing.
