So which one gets hurt on the bus ??

    • likeitoughttabe29 says:

Thank you for your name my sentiments exactly. I really want to start a petition or something to get cow bell man out.

      • BringTheAppleLeaveTheCowBell says:

        He sucks.

We harrass him and boo him so much when he walks by our seats that the ushers make him go under the mezz and back around when he’s past us.

All he does is look for cameras. I don’t think he even knows who is on the Mets

        Cow Bell Man Sucks !!!!

        • likeitoughttabe29 says:

what gets me is that it is an obvious rip off of Freddy the Frying Pan Man from Yankee Stadium. Were trying our hardest to get out of their shadow and he does something that gives yankee fans more fodder to throw at us about our team and our fans. He just feeds that stereotype that mets fans are awful.

        • BringTheAppleLeaveTheCowBell says:

Yea he thinks people love him.

I wonder why they even let him walk around banging that thing anyway. SNY puts him on TV all the time which just makes him worse.

        • Brooklyn Mets Fan says:

I don’t know about you guys but I like the cowbell guy.

The stereotype that Met fans are awful? Who care what Yankee fans say anyway, they’re Yankee fans.

        • JSC1968 says:

Agreed, no probs with the Cow Bell dude.

        • likeitoughttabe29 says:

Just the fact that he stole his whole idea from Freddy the Frying Pan guy makes him unoriginal and therfore awful. Not to mention the only reason he is called Cow Bell Man is because he put it on the back of his own jersey when he stole this rediculous idea in the first place and there is nothing more lowly than giving yourself a nickname ( aka when George wanted to be called T Bone)

Mets fans have been subject to stupid and cheesy gimmicks that are unnessecary in NY, (i know i wrote this same thing like 2 weeks ago) but if your coming to the stadium for cow bell man and the tishirt launch just stay home. Save the gimmicks for Tampa and Pittsburgh (although the hot dog launch is hysterical) and keep it simple in NY just play the game.

Im gonna go buy a jersey right now that just says “AWESOME GUY” on the back so everyone can see me and call me Awesome Guy.

        • Brooklyn Mets Fan says:

i do agree that if he did indeed give himself that nickname and /or deliberately steal his act from freddy-the-fruitcake or whoever is in yankee stadium then that is pretty lame.

but I would not say anyone comes to the games just for the cowbell or t-shirt cannon or jose-jose-jose or meet the mets song or mr. met, but i do feel that these traditions are what makes the mets different from say the corporatist yakees and makes us feel like more of a small town atmosphere which i myself enjoy. i bet no one ever discussed the cowbell guy in this much length before. lol. If i see a guy at shea with an “Awesome Guy” mets jersey on I will buy you a beer.

        • likeitoughttabe29 says:

Haha, If i get 7 or 8 offers like that it will practically pay for itself.

Thats a point of view I’ve never heard of “the small town view” its not a bad way to look at it. I can see a different appreciation for the antics with that point of view.

I still have to disagree though. Im kind of a baseball nazi when it comes to these types of things. The T shirt toss is fine excpet when guidos and annoying adults knock over little kids for them, same with foul balls. Also anyone over the age of 12 that brings a glove/ fishing net to the game should be immediately ejected. And any adult pushing and crying over autographs should be sent to a camp somewhere never to be heard of again. Cow Bell man just takes the cake though, I am not a Yankee hater just because im a met fan i appreciate some tradition like Bob Shepard and Freddy has been there for like 50 years so its not a call for attention, he just enjoys it, he does it at manhattan basketball games for like 200 people Cow Bell Man does it for attention and he should just sit in his seats and watch the game.

See now you’re just teasing me…

  3. metsin080910 says:

The Mets’ should trade for John Lindsey from the Dodgers’ to back up Delgado, he has tremendous power and could be a steal. He has never had a ML ab, but he has put up impressive numbers in his 13 year minor league career. He should be relatively cheap, (Joe Smith or Shoe should do the trick).

    • likeitoughttabe29 says:

why would we give up Joe Smith or Showenweis for Crash Davis. Early talks have whispers of the Xman coming back to shea. He has experience and mets fans love him

      • x-nady says:

I second that. But why would the Pirates want to deal with the mets without placing super high demands? After all the perception is that we fleeced Ollie Perez away from them.

        • likeitoughttabe29 says:

Did we bring Luca Brasi with us to give him an offer he couldnt refuse? They didnt want Oliver Perez so they tossed him. They need relief help and we offer that.

        • CitizenSnips says:

After the Santana/Haren/Bedard deals it wouldn’t surprise me if the Pirates ask an insane amount for Nady, who while average is solid. I know he’s not a pitcher but the trading bar has been raised.

    • Another Matt says:

Doesn’t “13-year minor league career” make you wonder?

He did rake last year in AAA – but that was his first time up there.

Seems like an OK acquisition if the price is right – Shoe is probably the upper limit of what I’d pay – Smith is young and cheap, I wouldn’t trade him for a 30yo who didn’t make it to the bigs yet.

      • therealsince86 says:

Is this guy even serious, how many 30 year old rookies have their been? How many players juggle around in the minors for 13 years before they see their 1st ab? No thanks, I will wait on Easley, Valentin, Anderson, and Gotay.

      • metsin080910 says:

I would. We need a back-up first basemen and he would be a perfect choice. He bats right handed, and has power. He could be a nice bat off the bench late in a game as well. Forget Nady, that is not going to happen.

    • jbinva says:

Ooh, we gotta get this guy. His nickname is “Mayor”, for crying out loud.

  4. Nate W. says:

    C.M. Wang today, fairly amusing.

    0.6 IP, 6 runs, 6 hits, 2 walks

    thier season is over too…

  5. therealsince86 says:

There is a name that has not been mentioned that could solve all kinds of problems for little in return. Melvin Mora. He still hits well enough and can play every position except catcher. I am sure the O’s would dump him for near nothing.

    • Another Matt says:

My one worry with Mora would be his GDP stat from last year – 22. His legs might be done.

      • stellar says:

You can’t judge a batter by GIDP. He can’t control the runner on first.

        • Another Matt says:

GDP is usually on the hitter – if the guy running from first is unable to break up the play that’s one thing, but realistically it’s the batter’s speed that pressures fielders into screwing up double plays, or just plain beats it out.

Plus of course he has to have hit a double play ball in the first place.

Having such a high GDP number on a poor team (hence presumably not having a runner at 1st with less than 2 outs most at-bats) suggests both a lot of grounders to middle infielders and an inability to beat out the plays.

  6. mets17 says:

The Mets should go after a list of Marcus Thames or Xavier Nady, Nady would be a perfect fit but he will cost too much.

    • therealsince86 says:

I think Matt said earlier that Pitt might lower their asking price if a team took Matt Morris. To me that situation sounds perfect to me. Morris would be a nice #5 and of course we need Nady. I mentioned something like Smith, Show and cash for the two? That free’s up a ton of cash for Pitt without really damaging their team (if that’s even possible)

      • x-nady says:

If this has any truth to it, they should try to keep Show and swap him with Sosa. Register can fill Sosa spot as the long man. The only reason is that Show is left handed and thus more valuable. I know he stunk at Shea, but he was pretty solid the 2nd half of the year.

I like Smith too, but you gotta sacrifice to receive. Nady would be an Ideal fit in the OF and at 1B…And I could finally get my Nady Jersey.

    • Another Matt says:

Marcus Thames has rally-killer written all over him. His terrible career OBP is slightly easier to stomach when you don’t also have pitchers batting. In the NL, you can’t afford your position players to be automatic outs.

  7. shea_guevara says:

I wonder why so little interest (apparently) in Kenny Lofton. Can still hit, can still run, he’s a free agent so he’d only cost money. He’s no spring chicken, for sure, but that just means he’d fit right in on this team.

Is there a bad vibe around him I’m not aware of? Like, steroid whispers or bad clubhouse guy? Just curious.

    • therealsince86 says:

Nothing more than the fact that he is LH and we need a RH bat.

    • Another Matt says:

His power numbers drop against lefties, but he still gets on base at a decent rate.

Seems to me like he’d be a vastly better choice than Thames.

      • likeitoughttabe29 says:

Last time i checked no one was looking for Kenny Lofton to bring up their power numbers. I mean he has decent power for a Skinny lefty leadoff hitter, but i dont think a 40 year old lefty outfielder is what we need.

not to mention, it looks more an more like we need an insurance policy at first base. I like Marlon Anderson but not enough to do 25 games in a rom at 1B if Dlegado goes down.

    • Nate W. says:

They can get Lofton like production from Endy or Pagan, so no need for him at all. They need someone with a bit of pop in thier bat and preferably righty hitting. Lofton is none of these things.

  8. metsin080910 says:

    Lindsey.
