PSL: Morning Serenade for Reyes
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 6, 2008 1:51 pm

the players seem to all be arriving at 1 pm for what will be a 7 pm game…apparently, they know the schedule better than i do

Jose Reyes drove up in his SUV, parked, got out and started walking slowly to the clubhouse…he has swagger, as willie would say…he is dressed in jeans, a designer t-shirt, sunglasses and was carrying an Ipod…also in street clothes, sitting on the picnic bench outside of the locker room was Anderson Hernandez and a few of the team’s younger players, who smiled and began singing, “Jose, Jose Jose Jose,” as he walked toward them…jose smiled, laughed and gave a salute while looking embarrassed…he sat down on the bench and chatted a bit, before they all got up and went inside

…i don’t blame them, it can be a catchy song

I’m advocating for a Johan Santana chant to the tune of Guantanamera. Try it. Catchy and fun.

Also, for every strike, we could all say Ole like in soccer.

    • Peter says:

That is going to be in my head all day now . . . .

      Johan Santana
      Johan San-taaaaaaaaaaaaa-nnnnnnaa
      Johan San-taaaaaaaaaaaaa-nnnnnnuhh

      Thanks

      Not bad…kinda like it…

Guantanamera, a Cuban song, would work best for El Duque should he pitch….ever.

And Matt, I cant help but think that your posts would be all the more incisive if you were capable of speaking Spanish. Although many players speak decent english, there interviews in spanish are always more nuanced because they feel more at ease diverging from the normal banal cliches (santana: I’m just going to do my job” etc.)

Solution? Get me on the SNY payroll and ill head down so we can get the ball rolling! Ha!

Good point. I remember when the Mets were “re-teaching” Jose how to run (to avoid hamstring pulls) a hispanic reporter asked him about the new style and he bluntly said he didnt like it. He didn’t like it one bit.

I didn’t know if it was a comfort level or the fact that he could better express why he didnt like it in spanish, but with english speaking reporters he would give vague answers about being ok with it. I was always surprised people never noticed the conflicting replies.

Professor, si consiges un trabajo con SNY, aqui estoy para ayudarte..lol

Duque was signing autographs outside the park yesterday.
He signed my hat. I felt so bad for all the negative stuff I’ve
been throwing his way. I gonna cut out the bad karma and
only hope for good things for him. Get well soon.

    • da burg's greatest says:

you are aware that that is the cant we use for jose right?

its the exact same thing except jose instead of ole

      • CaseStreet says:

LOL. If we sang the whole chant after every strike, we’d be kind of tired.

No, what I mean is one simple “OLE” after every strike. Like a “WHOOSH” in basketball after a free throw.

  2. buenosdiazfive says:

Maybe after every strikeout. Except that “Ole” is more of a Mexican thing…we should find something a bit more native to his Venezuela that could be more fitting

    • CaseStreet says:

When you mean Mexican, do you mean Spanish? You do know Ole comes from Spanish bull-fighting and is used by soccer fans when their team is up and they pass the ball to one another.

    • Gaspar says:

      “HUGO CHAVEZ!” Clap, clap, clapclapclap!

  3. MetalMet says:

Well, we could use that idea for Ollie.

  4. SheaVendor says:

What? No dancing outside the locker room? Don’t want to offend I guess.

  5. miker94 says:

    Gotta love Jose!

  6. Old Backstop says:

What about Johan Santana sung to La Cucaracha instead?

    JoHan Sant-aaaaaaa-na,
    JoHan Sant-aaaaaaa-na,
    Ya no quieres caminar,
    Porque no tienes,
    Porque l(o) falta,
    Marihuana que fumar.

    :)

  7. amen1986 says:

What about the “Johan Santana Song” from YouTube. That song is impossible to get out of your head once you hear it…plus, it irks Braves fans to hear it.

  8. 15MetsGirl5 says:

    Jose is sexyy.

  9. Zoe says:

This is pedro’s first start, no? SNY’s schedule has a Mets classic tonight. Anyone know if they plan to play the FL game instead?

  10. gem779 says:

i know it is repetitive to say this, but these kind of posts are soooo sweet!

  11. Donfrancis says:

Johan should get the simple 2 syllable treatment like Pedro.

    Jo – han clapclap
    Jo – han clapclap

simple, but when the entire stadium is doing it, will sound awesome
