PSL: Pedro Martinez is a Cool Guy
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 6, 2008 3:51 pm

Pedro Martinez is driving a beautiful, jet black, Aston Martin convertible…

…if that wasn’t cool enough, he has his jersey number, 45, in the middle of all four tire rims…

…i think this may be among the coolest things i have ever seenand i’m not even a big car guy, but cool is cool…and that is damn coolwell done, pedro

(sorry for it being such a long post)

I kind of skipped over this yesterday, but if it’s not solved it’ll be one of the Mets biggest problems. At least early on. Just take a look at this.. Moises Alou will be out for at least April.. I know I mentioned that guys like Chavez, or an Angel Pagan could fill in, but then look what that does to the lineup.

      Reyes (S)
      Castillo (S)
      Wright (R)
      Beltran (S)
      Delgado (L)
      Church (L)
      Pagan (S)
      Schneider (L)

Just take a look at this.. The 5-8 spots in the lineup contain 3 LEFT HANDER HITTERS, and a switch hitter who is much better from the right side. Not to mention that Carlos Beltran is a better hitter from the left side.. So as you can see this leaves the Mets with a huge weakness. They’ll be extremely vulnerable to left handed pitching. The Mets need to make a deal now.. There is no right hander hitter in the minors for them to use, and I don’t know about you, but a platoon with Damion Easley doesn’t cut it for me.

There has been a bunch of names tossed around.. Marcus Thames, Preston Wilson and Xavier Nady seem like the best fits to me, but the Tigers have said they don’t want to trade Thames, and the Pirates aren’t just going to give up Nady. What ever the Mets do, they need to do it quick. I’m just really upset at this point hat the Mets didn’t sign Kevin Mench. Mench CRUSHES lefties, and as far as I know he signed for a minor league deal wit the Rangers.

I’ll throw a name out there, just don’t go crazy spreading this. The Rays have a surplus of outfielders, and I wonder if Jonny Gomes could be had.. He’s just 26 years old, and has shown power at every level. The Rays could use some bullpen arms.. Just throwing it out there.

      • how aout kenny lofton?

      • mackey_sassers_arm says:

Who are the lefties we are so afraid of? Hamels is good, but the rest of the leauge isn’t too great. No need to flip out and overpay for someone to start the 10 games we play against a dominant lefty all year. Thank God we don’t have to play against Santana. Plus, against a lefty, Castro can start leaving just Delgado/Church as the only lefties in the lineup. not too bad.

i doubt theyll let him go. i saw on mlbtradeumors that crawford has an option after this year. not sure about their finances so i dont know if theyll pick it up or not but either way that guy is definitely on his way out eventually so theyll probably want to keep around as many guys as possible on cheap controlled contracts. but who knows im not omar.

Gomes is an interesting idea. I have never seen him play, but I took a quick glance at his numbers and he strikes out a ton.

The thing with Minor League Deals is that they’re essentially all the same, so that player is going to go where he feels he has the best chance to play. It’s why bad teams like the Rangers and the Nationals always get pick of the litter when it comes to Minor League Deals. I’m sure the Mets likely offered Mench a similar deal and he turned it down.

To get Mench, we would have had to guarantee a roster spot to the guy, and I wasn’t willing to go that far.

    OFF TOPIC BUT IMPORTANT
Can anyone please explain to me why I cannot post comments from my other handle (Phillies Say the Darndest Things)? Not one of my posts has been showing up since the thread about Matt showing up too early. I sent an email to the guys at Metsblog and no one has responded….any help?

    • Phillies Are Phags says:

Stop putting this in every comment section. What’s wrong with the handle you’re using?

      • 5and7 says:

if someone would have answered it in the last thread there would have been no reason to post it in this thread. And there’s nothing wrong with this one, I would just like to know what the problem is with the other one. Is that so wrong?

      • TobeRinkler says:

        Your handle needs revision.

Apparently, Pedro has had this car since his Red Sox days, and its custom convertible made for him –

Fanciest car in the Sox parking lot belongs to Pedro Martinez: an Aston Martin Vanquish, a newer version of the car that James Bond drove in “Die Another Day.” “Pedro is one of a kind, though,” said Derek Lowe, who took a little spin with Martinez the other day, the roar of the car engine temporarily transforming a quiet side street into a Grand Prix course. “Pedro had them make his a convertible, and Aston Martin doesn’t make that car as a convertible.” One car enthusiast listed the price of a Vanquish as $228,000. The Vanquish can go from 0 to 100 in 10 seconds, according to the experts. Wrote one car reviewer: “We cannot come close to really imparting the sound of this 6-liter V-12; a lion’s roar, heard in person, would stir this kind of emotion. Sure, we’re waxing poetic on you, but the sound of this motor is really something you must hear to understand — a deep, low rumble at idle and a huge throaty baritone hum that turns into a scream at redline.”
