Here's all you need to know about Milledge...

When asked by a reporter at spring training a couple years ago about what it was like to work with a major league coaching staff and if he's trying to soak it all in his response was...

"It's hard to hear someone else tell me about hitting when they're not me at the plate."

That's a great approach for a young player, don't you think?

Good riddance.

And against any decent or experienced pitcher, he looks completely overmatched at the plate, swinging from his heels especially against any offspeed pitch. Sure he can hit, but only against some rookie or scrub pitcher. And his fielding is horrible. Are you kidding me, did you watch him play at all the last 2 years??? Watching him track a routine flyball is like watching a kid try to catch a popup for the first time. And he does have a strong arm, but that doesn't mean anything, it's very erratic and he has NO accuracy. He gets the ball and just launches it, usually way over the cutoff man's head. I'll take Church over him any day, hell I'd even take Green over him. I'm glad he's gone!

yes...very impressive in the first week of spring training when pitchers don't have their fastballs up to peak velocity and are not throwing their sliders off the plate down and away just...ya know...the pitches Milledge could never lay off and would get himself out time after time.

24 minor league errors in the OF... that's horrible. He would constantly jog after balls taht he would not get to. How about the Willis triple on the last day of the season? He walked after that. Yeah, it doesn't show up as an error, but the kid can't field. He doesn't have a RF arm. he has a solid LF arm.

The media has been over-hyping this kid since he was drafted. Scouts around the game know that he isn't that special.

Oh and since you only responded to the comment about defense I'll assume you agree with the facts that he can't steal, doesn't hit for high avg., and is obviously overmatched when facing quality pitching.

He's a marginally above average at best. If he flourishes in DC, then good for him, but his attitude and antics would not have gone over well in the over-bright spotlight that shines on NY athletes.

He forces himself to make "nice diving plays" after he GROSSLY misreads the ball off the bat. I have seen him play, in fact I was at Fenway when he dropped a routine fly ball the second night in a row.

He does have an arm...there's no disputing that.
