In all fairness, in the games they lost in the NLCS, starting pitching was NOT the issue (with the exception of Trachsel's stinker).

Game 2 -- Maine gave up just 3 ERs. The Mets led when he left the game. It was Mota and Wagner who gave it away.

Game 3 -- Trachsel stunk.

Game 5 -- Glavine gave up 3 ERs which is not bad. The Mets lost 4-2 and they just didn't score.

Game 7 -- Ollie pitched a gem. The Mets lost 3-1 on the homer off Heilman.

They won game 4 where Ollie gave up the 5 runs. Could Pedro have made a difference? Hell, yeah. He instead of Trachsel would have been big. But overall I really don't think starting pitching was a bigger issue than the pen or untimely hitting in the NLCS.

I'm curious as to what Penny thought Matt was doing. I have never been under the impression that he was particularly sophisticated--seems like a big hick, really--but I have no doubt that he's seen a laptop before, and I am pretty sure he knows what blogging is, so why the fascination with Matt at work? Did he think Matt was some member of the paparazzi doing a piece on Alyssa Milano's ex's, or something?

Seriously, though--great job, Matt. You showed us the angles nobody else did. I look forward to more such things in the future.

If the Mets' had either one of those pitchers healthy in 06' they might have been World Champs, but c'mon, we have Santana. I wouldn't mind throwing Santana in game one, Maine in game 2 and Perez in game three. But that will not happen, Martinez will stay healthy!

This season won't have anything to do with El Duque's health. He is the 5th or 6th starter on this team.

The reason the team lost in 06 was not due to poor starting pitching. It was due to a lack of clutch hitting and one nasty curveball.
