Health: Duque, Castillo, Gotay and Beltran
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 12, 2008 8:53 am

Orlando Hernandez will throw a simulated game at Tradition Field today.

it’s looking more and more, to me, like el duque will just stay back at camp when the team begins the season, where he can continue to work and be ready about the time the team first needs a fifth starter around the middle of April…he’s just way off the pace

Meanwhile, on Monday, Luis Castillo told reporters that he intends to play in a game today or tomorrow.

today is a home game, which will air on , so i suspect he’ll push for today instead of traveling to Jupiter…

To read quotes from Castillo, and to learn more about his status, check out Peter Botte in the Daily News.

Speaking of second base, Ruben Gotay has been doing light batting practice and fielding drills.

Lastly, Carlos Beltran told reporters yesterday that he felt a bit sore following his first game of the spring.  However, “It’s a good sore,” Beltran explained.

For more on Beltran, read Rieber’s report in the Newsday.

Oh, Matt. Whenever I see that red cross my heart literally sinks with dread of what to expect!

  2. TheLiability says:

Oh Beltran, for you no sore is good sore. At least we are showing seeing some light at the end of the tunnel for these injuries.

  3. Nate W. says:

I find it a little strange that Beltran would be sore. I mean, he took three swings and slowly loped to first base three times. I would hope he is doing a lot more than that in batting practive and baserunning and fielding drills. Doesnt add up…

I was thinking the same thing. He was at DH, so it’s not like he was running balls down in the outfield. Strange.

the guy’s left leg quad muscle is a schell of its normal self, he’s building it back up, now, if you’ve ever had both knees scoped, you’d get it. Running around with an atrophied muscle like that makes you sore, he’s still strengthening it. But hey, time to hang on their every word and make an inference about something. Yay conspiracies!

anyone read the comments in Peter Botte’s article? well the comment..
the guy’s nickname is “NativeNY’er” and either hes trying a bad joke, or he hasn’t had his eyes open on the internet the past 2 weeks to not know where Alou went

  5. DerekBellsMustache says:

I expect a post later today notifying us that El Duque hurt himself pitching a simulated game

Or perhaps he can suffer a simulated injury that will convince him to have a simulated retirement.
