Willy’s bringing his A game for the Orioles. Has Maine pitched against the Orioles? That’d be interesting. Hope Ollie does well today.

  2. ntlrock1 says:

I like that lineup. F Mart in the 2 hole should be nice, followed by DW and the ‘Los’s

  3. bonatom says:

    Who is Robison Cancel??

    • foster6986 says:

he is one of the many catchers in camp. Caught the last 2 or three innings of the Boston game on Monday.

    • Ferragamo says:

Robinson Cancel will most likely be our backup catcher down in Triple A New Orleans. He’s been a career minor leaguer and basically falls into the Raul Casanova category, which means he’s just another body for camp.

What is the deal with Luis Castillo? He was supposed to play today or Thursday and now we hear maybe Saturday. This guy has had bad knees for who knows how long and what do we do, give him a 4 year deal. I didn’t like the move at the time and I still think it’s going to come back and hurt us.

      • therealsince86 says:

Castillo will be fine. His knees will be better than they have been in the past he just needed to take it slow to start the season. He will be playing by next week, no reason to rush it.

John Delcos story in today’s Journal News
    March 12

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The early-morning crowd of autograph seekers leaning against the locked gate to the players’ parking lot recognize him immediately and start screaming his name.

    And nickname.

“Fernando, Fernando,” they yell. “F-Mart, F-Mart, please,” they plead.

Fernando Martinez is 19 years old and has never set foot inside Shea Stadium as an active player.

The highest-rated Mets prospect, the chip the franchise would not surrender for Johan Santana, smiles, gives a big-league wave to those who seek his signature as an investment, and hustles into the clubhouse to join the real Mets.

Soon enough, the outfielder will be one of them, he vowed, and said it will be by the end of the summer.

“You’ll see me there this year,” he says in a quiet voice; one of confidence but not braggadocio.

By all accounts, Martinez is a five-tool player – he hits, hits with power, runs, throws and plays defense – but he also has a quiet demeanor, strong work ethic and more than a touch of modesty.

“I see a guy who has all the tools to be a great player,” David Wright said. “He really wants to learn. He comes in and talks to the veterans. He’s soaking it all in.

“He knows he’s good, but he’s not brash. He doesn’t have that cockiness or top-prospect mentality that a lot of guys get.”

Martinez received a $1.4 million signing bonus at age 16, and his only interest since has been getting better personally and professionally.

He’s one of the first to arrive at camp, he listens intently to the advice from the veterans, and he took advantage of his time at Double-A Binghamton to learn English at SUNY-Binghamton.

“There are a lot of great players here, and I’m fortunate to be around them,” Martinez said. “If they are going to talk with me, I’m going to listen.”

Carlos Beltran talks hitting with him. So does Pedro Martinez, but from a pitcher’s perspective.

Fernando Martinez calls both his heroes.

“He’s very smart,” Pedro Martinez said. “He listens to you. He wants to learn. I can see the pitching sequences of other pitchers and will tell him why they are pitching him that way.

“He has unlimited talent. When you see him, all you want to do is see him more.”

    In 551 minor-league at-bats, Martinez, a left-handed hitter, has hit .276 with 14 homers and 60 RBI.

It was enough for the Minnesota Twins to push hard for him to be included in the Santana deal. It was never going to happen.

“We didn’t have to think that much about it,” assistant general manager Tony Bernazard said. “His hitting is so advanced. He’s able to do things at his age that other people can’t do.”

At home in the Dominican Republic this winter, Martinez heard the rumors, and it didn’t help that well-meaning friends ran up the minutes on his cell phone.

“I thought I might be traded,” said Martinez, who, after going hitless in one-bat in yesterday’s 4-3 loss to Boston, is hitting .300 this spring.

“I didn’t want to go, and I’m really glad I’m still here.”

General manager Omar Minaya didn’t hide the trade talks from Martinez; he also didn’t hide his intent to keep him from the Twins.

“We didn’t want to trade him,” Minaya said. “He has a tremendous upside.”

Martinez won’t talk about his ceiling. He mentioned wanting to hit .300 and hit 20 homers, but Baseball America projects him for more power.

“It’s hard to predict power for somebody at that age,” Carlos Delgado said. “He has a lot of tools, but he’s in that developmental stage.”

    Martinez wants to get stronger.

“He works very hard,” Beltran said. “You always see him in the weight room. He has a great attitude and work habits.”

As he matures physically, he should hit with power because of his plate presence. The Mets like his patience and plate coverage. He’s able to turn on a pitch and pull it, but also hit the ball on a line to the opposite field.

The caveat, of course, is injuries, and the belief is the broken bone in his right hand that limited him to 60 games last year won’t prohibit his power development. The previous year he played in only 76 games because of a thumb injury.

“I want to stay healthy,” Martinez said. “I need to play a complete year.”

If so, Bernazard said Martinez’s projection of seeing Shea Stadium this year is realistic.

From there, who knows how high?

Beltran’s eyes sparkled when he spoke of Martinez. It was as if he were talking about a son.

“He has this sense that, ‘I will improve,’ ” Beltran said. “He’s not afraid. He’s not intimidated. If he takes care of himself, I believe he can do whatever he wants in this game.”

And for the Mets, the important thing is he’ll be doing it for them and not the Twins.

  5. ravi3 says:

    Any play by play today?

    Nate? ASod?

  6. CaseStreet says:

I wonder what the batting order will look like when and if F-Mart makes it. Would he bat behind Reyes like today? Or would he bat in the bottom of the order? Castillo is definitely a better #2 and you probably want to take the pressure off and bat him in the bottom. However, if you bat him in the bottom, you have four lefties (if we don’t sign a righty hitting 1B). Any thoughts on this?

    • therealsince86 says:

That’s assuming that he is ready next season, which I hope he is. That would allow us to spend a lot more money on 1B and SP.

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

randolph will bat him 7th until he earns a promotion just like he did with wright.

      • stickguy says:

Agreed though that if Fmart and Church are both in the OF, then a RH power hitting 1B will be needed to balance out the line up.

    • Massey says:

F-Mart–I’ve seen almost all of his ST AB’s–is a great line-drive contact hitter. He can hit to all fields, has a good eye, good speed, and swings at good pitches.

I think early in his career he’d be a great #2–better than Castillo.

He’ll pick up more power as he gets older, probably projects to a classic #3 type hitter in a few years. I think that in a year or so, best to move Castillo to #8.

  7. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i hope fmart has a good game. it would really be a great sign to see him succeed surrounded by reyes wright and beltran.

  8. kbusch22 says:

I’m hearing Castillo was good to go except the field was apparently wet so they decided to be cautious.

  9. MetsRmilife says:

F-Mart in center would like to see him show off the arm today

  10. metsin080910 says:

Wow, Robinson Cancel just dropped a nice throw home from F-Mart. 1-0 Baltimore.

    • m00kie says:

the throw was up the first base line a little .. a better throw had him nailed. Still, nice arm.

  11. MetsRmilife says:

Didn’t want to see it this early

  12. DonDopeyNJ says:

game update: keith has a burger

  13. ASod1975 says:

    Sorry guys,
I’m at the mercy of mlb.com today. Yesterday was fun, one of those days where my job really doesn’t seem like work at all.

  14. m00kie says:

I won’t be able to keep this up, and for the batters, check the box score:
    top first:
    out,
    groundball to reyes,
    double in the gap
single up the middle, martinez almost has the guy at home, up the line a little, catcher can’t make the play, runner goes to second on throw home
    pop fly to left

ollie looked ok, a little wild, but maybe “effectively wild”

    • DaWrightStuff says:

I know it’s still spring training… but should we be a little concern that Ollie is giving up hits consistently?

  15. Jayperez says:

Why does live box score take foooorever to update…im going to stay here to find out what happens in ST games from now on lol

  16. MetsRmilife says:

Reyes hard hit ball to second but well played out at first
Martinez was fooled pretty good on a 1 and 1 curve by guthrie then flies to center
the O’s pitcher is throwing well 94 w/ a nice hook
right grounds single up the middle
    Beltran grounds to second

  17. m00kie says:

    bottom first guthrie pitching:

reyes: ground ball liner to second
    martinez: popup to center
wright: chopper over the pitchers head up the middle, single
beltran: first pitch ground ball to second

  18. m00kie says:

    castillo’s been “bubble headed”

  19. DonDopeyNJ says:

vital game update: luis castillo has a piece of bubble gum stuck to his hat.

  20. DonDopeyNJ says:

oh man, m00kie beat me to it.

  21. MetsRmilife says:

Popped straight up Wright collects it to the left of the mound
Perez seems to have a nice slider working today about 77 – 79
    Ground chopped to second
Double down the left field line passed a diving wright
3-2 slider is a beauty name? down swinging

-Someone has blown a bubble w gum and stuck it to the top of Castillo’s hat it has been there for a half inning guys are taking pictures behind him and he is clueless

    • m00kie says:

last year, I think during spring, david wright pulled the same trick on castro .. they actually caught him in the act on camera… this time castro’s sitting behind suppressing a laugh, I bet he’s the culprit…made it through the commercial break w/ bubble still intact.

    • Saltzy23 says:

The look on Castro’s face when he realized he’d been had last year was priceless….

      Whatever happened to ‘hotfoot’?

Anyone old enough to remenber that? I guess with the money they make now setting someones foot on fire is, um, frowned upon….

  22. DonDopeyNJ says:

burkhardt suspects ramon castro may have been the bubbler.

  23. MetsRmilife says:

    Bottom 2

    Bubble still there

  24. m00kie says:

    ugh .. delgado another k on a 3-2 inside fastball.. that’ll generate 100 posts

    • CaseStreet says:

Maybe he should start laying down bunts to remember what it feels like to hit the ball.

    • Saltzy23 says:

      I hate Karlos DelCrapo….

      So..3 PA’s….3 SO’s so far in ST?

….Yup…hes gonna be back annnnnyday now….

I didnt strike out this much when I used to go to singles bars. (awful joke, just best I could do off my head)….

      Urgh….

      • gowrightgo says:

Saltzy…you and I were going back and forth a few days ago when you introduced me to the term Delcrapo. I was saying my biggest worry was 1b not the outfield fill in for Alou when he is hurt.

You agreed but tried to get me to relax. I am losing my ability to do that here.

This guy really is toast. 3 abs and 3 Ks. Holy Moses he is so done and we have no options. What can we do…move in Michel Abreu (rh hitter). This will be a big problem in 08 season. Damnit

  25. wolverine193 says:

aannnnnnddd Delgado strikes out. Big shock there. I guess he doesn’t “have his timing back.” It’s only taken him all of last year, last offseason, and the beginning of spring training….

  26. tfc3rid says:

    HUGE Yankee-Rays brawl…

  27. MetsRmilife says:

    Bottom 2″
    Guthrie pitching for O’s

Delgado is being pitched hard inside like usual. Fouls off two 3-2, K on a nice slider down and in. Keith says its a “timing” issue

Church has taken 2 huge cuts on sliders outside 0-2, fouls off a letter high 94 mph fastball, pops slider to short. SS lost it in the sun but makes a nice catch

Guthrie looks like he is in mid season form today

    Clark flares to second

    Bubble still there

  28. DonDopeyNJ says:

end of two: bubble still in place.

  29. DelgadoMustGO says:

MetsRmilife your comments are both childish and laughable

  30. DonDopeyNJ says:

HUGE UPDATE: angel pagan shaved that stupid growth off of his chin.

  31. MetsRmilife says:

    Top 3:
    O Perez pitching
    Interview w Angel Pagan

Slow Grounder to 3rd Wright makes a nice throw

Fly to right gap Church makes a nice diving catch

    Fly out to Church

    Pagan was being played off

  32. DonDopeyNJ says:

bubble still in place by the way.

  33. gipper913 says:

Wow. Nice diving catch by Church – and his cap stayed on. Take that, Greenie!

  34. DonDopeyNJ says:

ramon castro has now double bubbled luis castillo.

  35. m00kie says:

double bubble now placed by castro.. castillo’s been to the clubhouse and back w/ bubble in place.

I’ve missed most of the game but seen the bubble drama.

Keith is telling a hotfoot story.

    • Saltzy23 says:

      YES!!…Hotfoot….wish I could hear the story…

Can you EVEN imagine someone trying that to Wright or Reyes these days?….Youd be optioned before the smoke cleared….

  36. m00kie says:

I”m headed to a meeting and my challenge will be to still watch the game. Wish me luck.

  37. DonDopeyNJ says:

bubbles have melted. what a sad moment in mets history. RIP bubbles, RIP.

  38. m00kie says:

reyes just hammered a ball to the wall in right center for a triple

  39. m00kie says:

and martinez knocked him in on the next pitch…nice preview of the future

  40. gipper913 says:

Ekith says CF shlould play jose shaded more to RF to cover the gap…..and next pitch Jose knocks one into the RCF gap over the CFers head. Keith is in regular season form.

  41. DonDopeyNJ says:

fmart drives in reyes. how often are we going to hear that phrase in the future?

  42. MetsRmilife says:

    Bot 3
    Guthrie Pitching for O’s

Cancel K’s on a nice Change

    A. Hernandez tries a slap bunt. Lines out to right

Reyes over the head of the center fielder. Slides safe into 3rd.
“I wish i could run like that the police never would have caught me.” – Keith

F-Mart lines a ball into left scoring Reyes 1-1 tie

Wright K’s on a slider low and away

  43. zen says:

coco crisp to mets for pagan

    –ed coleman

    • m00kie says:

      wha?? rumor or done deal?

      • zen says:

said it’s being worked on, but not confirmed

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i hate coco crisp. i will struggle to root for him. not that i have much faith in angel pagan but ugh.

        • tfc3rid says:

Eddie C. reporting deal is rumored but no official report… Pagan for Crisp straight up…

        • gipper913 says:

I agree with Hit the Weights Zeile…plus Crisp has played all of 8 innings this spring and continues to be out with a groin injury.

        • zen says:

crisp is much better than pagan. if you improve upon your current talent w/o bringing in a huge contract it’s a smart move.

crisp had two ver good years in cleveland. last year in boston was decent. 85 runs, 28 sb’s, and great defense. this team is built on defense and pitching.

        • stickguy says:

well, if Crisp is hurt, then it makes sense for Omar to go after him. Why have a healthy guy to replace the other hurt guys?

    • gipper913 says:

      Huh? Really? Isn’t Crisp hurt?

    • CaseStreet says:

      What you talkin bout’ Willis?

    • DonDopeyNJ says:

i hope not. i mean don’t get me wrong, i could have a lot of fun on here with coco’s name, but i like pagan right now. also, i could just as much fun with angel pagans name.

MEGAUPDATE: THERE IS NOW A CUP IN THE BUBBLE PUDDLE

  44. foul bunt strikeout says:

When did Ed Coleman mention Crisp for Pagan…trade doesn’t make much sense
    IMO

reyes triples then followed by a fmart RBI single…love it

Can’t wait to see highlights of the skankee-rays brawl

  45. ghobot says:

coco crisp is a fabulous defensive outfielder, hes 28, fast, switch hits. however, he hasnt become the hitter everyone has expected him to be.

its a good trade, because you increase your talent pool and a chip. the thing that still worries me is how badly delgado will seemingly be

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i guess from a baseball perspective it is a good trade (if its true) i just dislike crisp alot. but hey if we end up with a healthy OF we could always move crisp for something midway through the year.

      • tfc3rid says:

Crisp is a better RH hitter than left… Speed, decent fielder…

        Again, nothing official…

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

maybe omar made the trade bc crisp is hurt and now that guys are getting healthy he needs to keep the trainers and medical staff busy.

    • gipper913 says:

The glorious bounceback of Delgado continuuuuues……

  46. DonDopeyNJ says:

bubblegate: endy chavez took a picture of the bubble puddle/cup. he was pretty much on luis’s back. how does he not notice this?

  47. Lets go Mets says:

when they say “watch live on SNY and on mlb.com”, does that mean mlb.com is free or does it cost to watch?

  48. DonDopeyNJ says:

the bubble has been discovered. luis does not look happy.

  49. Mets go down in order. Delgado strikes out again

  50. MetsRmilife says:

    Beltran Flies out
    Delgado K
    Church flies to right

    ….Castillo actually looks mad…

  51. Jayperez says:

    Coco Crisp
    LHP: .270
    RHP: .267
    OBP: .330
    SLG: .382
    AVG: .268
    SB: 28

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

thats why i hate coco crisp. people at espn made it seem like he was on par with carlos gomez and melky cabrera during the santana sweepstakes. realistically though its better than what angel pagan will most likely do.

        • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

If it’s better than what Pagan will most likely do, then why not? Seems like a buy low, sell high situation to me…

      • gipper913 says:

Yuck indeed …but somewhat better than Pagan….and those are last year’s Crisp stats, not career. Career .280 avg, .329 OBP, .429 SLG, .738 OPS.

        .278 vs RHP
        .283 vs LHP

    • zen says:

crisp #’s on the mets would have been

      2nd in triples
      3rd in stolen bases
4th in runs, hits, rbi, walks

      • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

Sounds more than adequate to me whenever he would have to fill in for Alou…

  52. CaseStreet says:

Too much going on. Yankees girl fight, Bubblegate, and now Coco Loco.

  53. Wright Stuff says:

Why are people hating on Coco? I haven’t seen him much since he’s been in the AL but he’s a plus defender, has speed, is a switch hitter and although he is not a big bat or anything he is not an embarassment either (ahem, Delgado)

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i actually dont like him for really no reason other than the media this winter making it out like hes some great CFer when discussing him in santana trade rumors. i was angry at how he was valued ahead of carlos gomez who is faster, plays great defense, and will probably develop into a better hitter, and is also about 5 years younger i think. although if he becomes a met im sure the people at baseball tonight will say we got another injured OFer and how its a stupid trade esp since pagan was doing so well in ST.

  54. sheaheykid says:

I don’t typically look to be grouped in with the fly-off-the-handle negativity that abounds here, but wow Delgado is done with a capital d.

  55. NYCESQ says:

To me, Crisp for Pagan is a bit of a push. I just don’t see too much of an upside to this deal other than getting a player with a recognizable name.

  56. MetsRmilife says:

    Top 5
    Wagner on to pitch

Flare to shallow center drops in for a single
Billy seems to be working on his off-speed stuff a few nice little curve balls and a change
hit and run fails cancel throws out runner at 2nd
Delgado snags a soft liner. Glad to see he didn’t injure himself jumping

  57. yea, Crisp is a good enough major leaguer, but the mets don’t need him. They have players like him already, Pagan and Endy specifically. We need a power righty bat who can play 1b/OF…that is not Crisp

    • Wright Stuff says:

Ok, but still, isn’t Coco an upgrade to Pagan. Pagan may look great right now in March but Coco has played well at the major league level. With Alou likely out for half the season (assuming another injury) and Beltran likely to play at 72.3 – 87.9% most of the year, adding an established major leaguer with speed and defense makes some sense. I agree that the 1B/OF player is better for us but maybe this is what we get.

Plus, aren’t a lot of teams still interested in him? I wonder if we are looking to package him with Sosa or the Show in another deal, but I am probably looking too far ahead.

  58. m00kie says:

cancel beats a double play ball to second, though hernandez is nailed at first, then reyes reaches on a throwing error from the ss and cancel scores on the play..2-1

  59. QnsNative718 says:

Anyone know the story of Crisp’s name? Seriously, what kind of sticky icky were his parents smokin? I guess the name “John” was taken…

    • mrose says:

from a simple google search :)

“My grandmother called me “Co” for short. My real name is Covelli, and then once my sister and my god brother got a whiff of the cereal Cocoa Krispies, they started calling me that and making fun of me. My nickname started as a big joke and I didn’t like it at first. But then it started catching on and everyone started calling me Coco so I got used to it. It resurfaced again in Double-A when they put it on the scoreboard and now I like it. I’ve just adopted it as my nickname. It helps me stick out in the crowd. When I go on the road people love to say the name. It’s also easier to pronounce than Covelli.”

      searching is your friend

    • shea_guevara says:

I know his actual first name is Cocovelli. As for what they were smoking, that’s anyone’s guess.

    • ravi3 says:

Coco is technically a nickname–though it is what he goes by, its been a nickname since his childhood, and is not is legal birth name

  60. DaWrightStuff says:

    anything on Bubblegate?

  61. MudvilleNine says:

Could this be the reason FMart is out in center and not Pagan? They dont want to get him injured before a trade. I just feel sorry for Pagan cause if this keeps happening he’ll never be able to show what he could do with regular playing time.

  62. DonDopeyNJ says:

they haven’t said anything about bubblegate recently

however, keith has strong coffee, and apparently made a priceless face. more keith’s faces as they develop.

  63. DonDopeyNJ says:

oh man apparently they will be rehashing bubblegate when they return. sweet. matt, text kevin and tell him to call it bubblegate on the air.

  64. MetsRmilife says:

have to head out can someone take over the play by play?

  65. DonDopeyNJ says:

well they recapped bubblegate, calling it the great bubblegum caper. no updates on the aftermath so far.

  66. gipper913 says:

Good lord, another Delgado K – this guy can’t hit his way out of a paper bag.

Quick 3 up 3 down for the mets.

  67. DonDopeyNJ says:

apparently ollie is training an attack dog….

  68. Jova1931 says:

Anyone notice that Perez looked like Mega Man with the ice packs around his arm and shouler?

  69. NYCESQ says:

I think it is time to trade for Thames or Nady. Delgado is not looking good one bit. I am not basing this on this spring alone. He is just declining. I hope I’m wrong, but it is hard not to feel this way by now.

    • gipper913 says:

Delgado could be what holds this team back from greatness this year.

      • sheaheykid says:

I couldn’t agree more — Delgado killed the team last year, absolutely murdered them. Don’t throw stats up either, because I want stats of how many rallies he killed in cold blood. Delgado is the biggest reason why this team will struggle to win the division. Note: I’m not saying we won’t win it, because our starting pitching will keep us in contention all season long, and avoid losing streaks. Delgado will keep us from separating from the pack.

        • Wright Stuff says:

Couldn’t agree more. Technically his stats weren’t terrible…not good by Delgado standards but probably a little above a replacement player. It was the fact that you could count on him to strikeout or hit into a double play practically every time the mets rallied. Then he would go to the bunch with the “hey, our team is great on paper so we’ll win anyway” attitude that, IMO, REALLY killed the team.

  70. gipper913 says:

–Dirty Ks Aubrey Huff swinging on something offspeed nasty/dirty down in the zone.

Dirty’s fastball seems to be still rather slow – and he’s forcing it, losing it inside to a righty.

–Double down the 3B line by Adam Jones on a full count. Dirty was displeased by the location

1 out, an Oriole on 2B. Many no-name Mets now in the field.

  71. DonDopeyNJ says:

    good to see abreu playing.

  72. gipper913 says:

Dirty continues to have issues getting his velocity up, which means he overthrows, and it gets up in the zone – often up and in.

He corrected that to get velocity down and got a pitch down in the zone But next FB was 90 mph but up in zone and down the pipe = RBI single,

    Next batter: double play.

    Orioles 2 – Mets 2 Middle 7th

  73. DonDopeyNJ says:

    french people love the mets.

  74. DonDopeyNJ says:

a beardless pagan is now at bat. there have been no mentions of a trade.

  75. gipper913 says:

Screw Coco – Pagan 2R HR

  76. m00kie says:

pagan heard the trade rumors too .. and hit a 2 run hr

  77. mrose says:

    hr pagan..wow

  78. StrawberryCoke says:

It doesn’t mention Pagan Hitting A HR on MLB.com scoreboard-Oh wait it’s Still refreshing Last years game !

  79. Lets go Mets says:

What Bubblegate all about, I missed out the begining of the story?

  80. shea_guevara says:

Joe Smith pitched nice a 1-2-3 inning: ground ball to 3rd, bunt he fielded nicely, and a K. Good outing for him.

  81. StrawberryCoke says:

According to MLB.com scoreboard Don Larsen is on the verge of pitching a perfect game -2 outs-Hold on its refreshing- nope still 2 out.

  82. foul bunt strikeout says:

you missed MLB.com’s front page last week…

    “The Giants win the Pennant!!”

Is this trade for real or what?

    Nib High Football rules!

  83. StrawberryCoke says:

I wonder if they use carrier pigeons to deliver their score back to the control center?

  84. foul bunt strikeout says:

    That or the Pony express?

  85. Nate W. says:

Nick Evans hit a double off the CF wall which would have scored the runner in front of him but it was called a ground rule. The next batter knocked them in for a 2 run inning.

its now the top of the 9th, Rincon is pitching and its 6-2 Mets

    K ends the game

  86. Nate W. says:

…what was Nick Evans doing at 3B anyway? who knew…

  87. TheLiability says:

Anyone here Steve Phillips on Mike and Mike talking about how Sosa would be a good fit here based on his splits and the fact that the Mets would not need to get rid of a player ont here roster.

    • Jayperez says:

yea but sosa is pretty old and we need to get younger. I like his power but i think hes injury prone as well. I believe if we get anybody its gotta be someone relativly young that can cover for alou and some of 09 if Fmart isnt ready. I see sosa at most a one season solution if the mets were to persue him. And solution is probably too big of a word to use anyway. I still stand by giving pagan a chance to see what he can do.

  88. Nate W. says:

The revievers were the story today

Wagner, Heilman, Joe Smith, and Rincon combined for:
    4 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 BB, 5 K’s

Danuer is just not ready yet, and I would assume he’ll need some time in extended ST or AAA to get in regular season form. He looked alright, he just doesnt have the edge to get hitters out.

  89. Another Matt says:

Hmm… not a good sign that they pulled Beltran for a pinch runner as soon as he got on base.

Los Dos are now what… 0 for 11, 5K (all Delgado), BB over their last 2 games?

I didn’t jump on the panic bandwagon, but I am starting to get concerned.

  90. Nate W. says:

    Delcos:

Duaner Sanchez said he’s close to throwing in back-to-back games, which is the test that tells him he’s ready.

“I don’t feel like I had surgery,” Sanchez said. “I expect to be there (for Opening Day).”

Me: From once a week to back to back days? I’ll believe it when I see it.
