oh and regarding power. i say wright hits 33 HR this year and Beltran, if healthy enough to get out there for 150+ games, hits 37. I don't see such a close homerun deferential as enough of a factor to overwhelm my perspective regarding average.

With Reyes, Castillo, and Beltran ahead of him. You have your best chance of getting your best hitter to the plate with a runner on.

ahaha. i guess i don't "know something". what else is a met blogger to do but suggest his outlook for the team lineup, whether unpopular or not?

i wasn't aware that lineup protection was invalid. i just feel that people getting into laws and rules limits thought. i appreciate counterpoints and criticism; that's what fan BSing is all about.

But how many more AB's per game will Wright get batting 4th as opposed to third? I don't imagine much. I just see the best hitter on the team with all the speed n front of him, making for the max RBI potential. Guys will pitch around Wright to get to Beltran, who is going to be about .030 points, or more, less likely to come through with a hit.

David Wright is our best hitter and the best hitter should always bat third. Not to mention, that DW isn't ideally suited for the clean-up spot. The 4 hole is better suited for a flyball/homerun hitter (like Beltran). DW has home run power, but is more of an oppositte field (singles, doubles and occasional homeruns) hitter. That's why he is better served in the 3 spot. I think Beltan finally settled into his spot when he was moved to the 4 spot. He didn't hit for much average, but his power numbers were really good. Beltran will never be a high average guy anyway. Another reason he should bat cleanup.

That's my opinion anyway.

Uh... the rule that says he should get more at-bats?

Lineup protection can be statistically proven to be a false concept.

wright being the best hitter is precisely why he should protect another guy in beltran who can get more pithes to hit and punish the ball. beltran suffered with delgado behind him last year, much like he benfited from a stronger delgado backing him up the first year.

what rule says best hitter automatically has to be 3rd?
