Abreu’s got some talent, and maybe it’s stereotyping on my part, but to me, he tops out as a Jorge Toca. Plus, he picked the wrong year and organization to miss 2007 because the Mets have (again IMO) a much much younger and talented kid in Mike Carp at the same level right now. Hopefully, the Mets braintrust is thinking of pushing Carp up to AAA and putting Abreu back at AA. Abreu owns AA, but so did Toca way back when and that didn’t mean much in the whole scheme of things. With Delgado breaking down and winding things up this season, give Carp a real chance to show whether he’s “heir apparent” material. If not, go for Teixeira next winter.

On most of the reputable sites where they rate Mets prospects Nick Evans has moved ahead of Mike Carp. Carp will have to stay healthy and improve his performance level if he wants to get a legitimate shot with the Mets.

And so it begins…..a few more each week and we’ll have our team. It would be a lot more exciting if the roster was not all but set already….
