Hey gottabelieve, I never said Delgado was soley responsible for the collapse, he was barely playing in Sept anyway (only, what, 15 games?).

Why is it so crazy to suggest that a 36 year old power hitter could be done?

Could it be that we have been watching roided up sluggers for so long that we forgot that most ballplayers are useless by their mid 30s?

Yes, he had some injuries last year
Yes, he missed the beginning of spring training last year
Yes, there are a whole slew of excuses you can make for Delgado.

Personally, he looked finished to me last year, he couldn't catch up to ANYTHING fast on the inner half of the plate last year. I am not foolishly basing this on a handful of spring ABs, like maybe some others are.

The Mets are in a tough spot. Can the Mets get by with Delgado hitting .250 with 25 mostly meaningless HRs, I think so. The rest of the team, when healthy, is strong enough to overcome him. It's just a shame that a championship caliber team has to go through the season with a HUGE disadvantage at 1B.

Go Mets!

And hey, sorry about the Glavine thing, that was just low.

Cliff Floyd...tell me how many career HRs does he have in comparison to Delgado?

Delgado's a terrific person, too, but I see you judge him based on a remark from last season, not for the total generous person who he is. Yeah, you guessed it, I'm his agent.

Because he's being idiotically misjudged by you and and typically negative a-analytical turkeys on this thread isn't my problem.

He was hobbled by injuries last year, and still had a good second half, but, yeah, he must have been single-handedly responsible for the collapse.

Your disloyalty will prove punishment enough before long.

I pity you.

P.S. Oh, yeah, dying for Glavine to return--LOL

Why couldn't Valentin put up better #s than Delgado this year?

Shawn Green had a better year than Delgado last year, and everyone thought Green was garbage. Why couldn't Valentin do the same?

A bit rough with the comments..but you are right. Delgado is done and why is this thread of all places not the one to share commentary on what his poor performance can ultimately mean to the team. Read the damn title to the thread Gottabelieve

Sorry to do the same thing...football rant on a baseball blog....but Eli for all his faults is now NY royalty. HE will always be remembered fondly.
Maybe in the Phil Simms mold...Maybe in the Jeff Hostetler mold. But either way...a NY Giant Superbowl winning QB. Give the guy some space. He is not a finished product yet and he has already done what Danny Kannell and Dave Brown and way too many other NY QBs have not

throw in Jimm Fallon, and put a bow on it. DOne.

[for the recrod, I am doing 50 push-ups for initially leaving JImmy Fallon of the list. I find it mindboggling that I did such a thing.

Semi-Literate, huh? Are you Delgado's agent? Is that why you are acting all snarky defending your aging client?

I don't get it? Am I supposed to be a blindly loyal fan that supports every Met player?

gottabelieve, were you one of the "fans" telling people to stop booing t** gl****e as he pissed away the season on Sept. 30th?

I bet you want ol' T** back?

I guess life would be better if I was delusional like you are. 40 HRs from Delgado? Are you talking about his next three seasons combined? Did you watch the Mets last year? Did Delgado show you anything promising? I remember Delgado looking alot like Cliff Floyd in his last season as a Met. Slow, broken down and incapable of making contact on anything inside.

At least Cliff was an all around good guy. Delgado is just a jerk. He had the temerity to insist that since he had a good 10 ABs in Cinn. late in the 2007 season, we (Mets fans) shouldn't worry about him. Who says that?? For the record, Delgado went 5-10 in that stretch, 4 singles and a 9th inn HR in a 10-3 Met win and the HR was off Dave Weathers pitching in his 4th consecutive game.

Manning's line has never been 6 for 13, 103 yards, 1 td, 2 ints.

Now it has been 6 for 33, 103 yards, 1 td, 2 ints. But that's a whole other issue.

A franchise QB is not supposed to win you a game single-handedly. Any offense that solely relies on that factor is an extremely flawed offense, and that's the exact philosophy that got Eli and Gilbride into trouble most of the regular season. It wasn't until Gilbride stopped calling for Eli to pass on first down and stopped scripting up to 35 pass attempts per game, and started running the ball, that the GMEN and Eli really arrived.

The guy just won a Super Bowl and is the only other QB not named Montana to throw for 2 TDs in the 4th QTR in the Super Bowl. Lay off him.

With all due respect, your first paragraph is the truest display of a spoiled fan I can imagine. That's why I felt the need to go on a football rant on a baseball blog.
