Health: Castillo, Marlon, Gotay, Etc.

by Matthew Cerrone on March 13th, 2008 at 8:01 am

Luis Castillo did not play in yesterday’s game, as he told reporters he would do earlier in the week.

Instead, he intends to play on Saturday.

he probably could play today, but would rather not travel to do so…instead, he’ll work out in Tradition Field, and start new at home on Saturday…fair enough, luis

Meanwhile, Marlon Anderson is once again sidelined with residual pain in his chest - due to his collision with Ryan Church on March 1.

Ruben Gotay did some light base running yesterday, but continues to limp while walking.

Carlos Beltran is expected to play in the outfield this weekend.

During yesterday’s game, Duaner Sanchez returned to allow two hits and a run and a blown save.

Sanchez was in good spirits after the game, telling reporters he finally feels as good as he did before the taxi accident.

do not worry about duaner’s results…he’s not using his change-up as much, which if you remember is what he used to be so dominant in 2006…these days, because it’s so early in spring, he’s just throwing fastball after fastball to test out his arm

Quote: Willie on El Duque’s Mystique

by Matthew Cerrone on March 13th, 2008 at 7:51 am

As noted yesterday, using a new, toned-down delivery, Orlando Hernandez threw a 60–pitch, three-inning simulated game yesterday afternoon in Port St. Lucie.

He told reporters afterwards that he is now ready to pitch in a real, live game.

Willie Randolph, while talking to reporters yesterday about whether Hernandez’s new delivery may alter his mystique:

“Well, I don’t know all about that stuff.  To me, his mystique is getting people out, being a great pitcher and knowing how to execute pitches and dazzle you with this stuff.  The fact that he’s not kicking his leg up real high doesn’t have a lot to do with who he is…Like I said earlier, the kick doesn’t get people out because he does it so early.  It’s when he lets the ball go that matters.  All that other stuff is just style.”

Blog: Bubble gum, Clean-Up, College, Etc.

by Matthew Cerrone on March 13th, 2008 at 7:40 am

At MLB.com, Marty Noble breaks down yesterday’s ‘Bubblegate,’ in which Luis Castillo unknowingly spent most of the game with a crown of pink bubble gum on his hat.

…by the way, Bubblegate should be credited to a group of readers from this site’s comments section, who were using it all day yesterdaygood stuff

In a post to Shea Nation, Don Kachuba argues that David Wright should bat clean-up, behind Carlos Beltran.

John at Metstradamus provides a fill-in-the-blank trade rumor template, thanks to yesterday’s Coco Crisp incident.

According to their website, Edgewood College will take on the Mets in St. Lucie during a split-squad game on March 21.

…lastly, a few weeks ago, i purchased the Rotoworld Draft Kit, which recently won an award from the Fantasy Sports Trade Association…i just finished my fantasy draft, but, if you are still preparing, i highly recommend it…
