Good news all around, also El Duque pitched a simulated Game today. Pelfrey is ready for the fifth spot

Delgado didnt’ strike out , YEAH!!

    • Lets go Mets says:

Yeah but he bounced into a double play everytime he was up.

    • Gio says:

      Way to go Fail-gado….

I prefer to call him Del-cagado….some of you might understand that one…

ugh….my patience for him is drying out….yes, yes, just like the prohibition. LaRussa must feel better knowing he´s not the only drunk affiliated with that organization.

      Wilpon Wants Piazza Back!!!

      http://www.metsprospectus.blogspot.com

In a recent article for ESPN, Fred Wilpon is quoted as saying that he’s interested in offering former Met great Mike Piazza a job. But it’s probably not the job offer Piazza is looking for, as Wilpon is only interested in bringing piazza back to join the SNY crew.

Well there’s no room in the booth, and Keith just got a contract extension, so if Piazza would be interested in something like this he would probably take the job Lee Mazzilli had last year… Hmm.. Japan or T.V.?

“I would be open to talking to him about anything,” Wilpon said. “If he wanted to be on the field, off the field, with the network [SportsNet New York], I would be open to talking to him about anything that he wanted to do.”

First I think that Shea Stadium should have a Beltran % board up on display. Before, during and after the game so we can see what % he’s playing at :} That way we know what to expect from him. Also How long are we going to wait for Delgado to come around? I hope that Willie does NOT make the same mistake as last year. If the guy is NOT getting done you can’t go with him time after time and let him kill rally after rally. I don’t see a problem with giving a chance to get back in fourm again, but, at what point is enough enough?

      • KinersKornerman says:

I’ll keep saying it, but last year CD hit 24 HRs and 87 RBI. Where do people get off saying he had a crap year?

  2. LIMetfan says:

So Billy Crystal is a better prospect then Delgado at this point… awesome.

    Maybe we should sign Seinfeld.

    • mdemaio says:

How do you think Paul Maholm feels? He had to throw sliders to get Crystal out. Couldn’t get the fastball by a 60-year-old amateur…

      • miglaugh says:

I heard on the fan he had to resort to cut fastballs… Which makes him look worse. Wouldn’t dare through an off speed pitch in other words.

  3. Moses69 says:

Hey Seinfeld is deff a better player than Crystal.

  4. stone11375 says:

why is piazza on the category list thingy?

  5. guierllNO MOta says:

OK, so beltran and delgado suck so far and fmart and pagan are playing like perennial allstars….is there anythign else that needs to be shown on why spring training is meaningless…pitchers only throw one pitch per outing, rookies try hard, stars dont try at all…stop putting stock in this nonsense its meaningless

    • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

I didn’t like the initial vibe when I first started to read your comment, but as it progressed, it got better and better… ;-)

      • stickguy says:

problem is, Delgado has to be trying even a little.

I could see the logic of not busting out of the box, diving for balls, etc. But to look that bad at the plate, when you know the pitcher is just throwing 1 pitch? That is scary.

SOmeone earlier commented that they wondered if he even really cares anymore. That just might be true to some extent.

  6. bonatom says:

Not Joking… has Delgado even had 1 hit this entire ST???

  7. Gilch says:

guierllNO MOta … delgado has sucked since the end of the 06 playoffs …… are u saying come the regular season hes going to snap out of it?
to think that Delgados ST struggles are meaningless is being just plain blind

  8. Gilch says:

    happy birthday johan btw lol

  9. Gilch says:

maybe a bit OVERLY negative, ok fine
but does that mean i should chalk up his current struggles and looking absolutely clueless at the dish to just the time of year(ST)?

  10. zen says:

mlb.com: “scouts examine skill categories that make top players”

jose reyes was selected as the best fielding infielder, best basestealer, and second best baserunner after ichiro. he was the only met to finish in the top two of any category for the best tools in the game

  11. s-mets says:

Don’t get me wrong, I love Beltran..however, he’s a bit of a drama queen..there is always something wrong with him. Matt is totally right, he always puts percentages on his health..one day he’s 70%, the next is 85%…my question is..where does he get this from?

I am sure he is hurt, but my god..

Anyhow, with two weeks left and Beltran feeling “80%”, he will be ready to go on opening day…

  12. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i heard beltran said he was 78.3% today but theres a 45% chance that after this weekend he may be 85% closer to being ready for opening day.

  13. VCarver says:

How does giving percentages make Beltran a drama queen?

He’s just being honest. And for this he gets knocked?

If he’s not healthy enough to play CF,, then he’s not healthy enough. Whether or not he says it by giving percentages or not shouldn’t make a difference.

  14. Gilch says:

ive been on the fence with beltran every year until mid season last yr
..i came to the conclusion…. say what u want about him… hes always a bit hurt, hes going to miss 15-20 games a year with injury … but u may as well pencil it in every yr … .275, 30 and 100 .. and will play an outstanding cf ..
now, on the other hand if he says he cant play the field… then i start to worry about his “injury status”

  15. metz1 says:

    prediction… fernando martinez…AA….299-29-101 RBIs

    • mdemaio says:

I think he’s a year or two away from putting up big power numbers – he needs to learn to drive the ball better, which always happens as good young hitters mature –  but I can see lots of doubles w/ a high BA. He’s got great mechanics and balance – the power will come. He doesn’t look 19, that’s for sure…

  16. nmigliore says:

    wow sosa still sucks

  17. metzelaar says:

It’s a glass half full kind of day:

    No strikeouts from Delgado.

    A good outing from Pelfrey.

    Beltran got a hit.

    F-Mart got a hit.

    Chavez is coming around.

  18. metz1 says:

    Sosa sucks? trade him!

  19. metz1 says:

i heard captain mike’s seafood is willing to give the mets 15lbs of catfish!

  20. metz1 says:

add a couple of crabcakes and you might have a deal!

  21. wolverine193 says:

Delgado is D-O-N-E. Reyes, Wright, and Beltran have to really step up this year.

  22. ASod1975 says:

Actually, F-Mart got two hits today (according to mlb.com) and is now hitting .333. I had the pleasure of interviewing him a few days ago at Fort Myers. He’s a very confident young man, but far from cocky. I think we’ll see him up with the big club this year, although probably just for a September call-up. Don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that he challenges for a starting spot next year, though.

  23. Moses69 says:

Delgado is not Done. He can’t be any worse than last year and he actually had a pretty good season for firstbasemen. If he can hit around .260 with close to 23 HR and 80 RBI people will be happy, and i think those are still realistic numbers.

    • The Glider says:

Why can’t he be any worse than last year? If this hip injury plagues him the entire year, i think he can very well be worse than last year.

Why don’t we err on the side of caution?

Wouldn’t that be the prudent thing to do?

How long are you willing to wait before you’re convinced?

      • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

1: Due to statistics, last year was by far his worst year of his very consistent career.

2: It really isn’t serious issue towards the Mets’ success this season thus far until they start playing meaningful games.

        3: Nah, just typical.

4: At least until I get a large enough sample. If anything, I really think we Mets fans will be more intrigued and distracted by Santana’s success — no jinx — than what happens to Delgado for the first month.

  24. Gilch says:

ill sign right now for 260, 25, 80 ……. that still makes him a valuable hitter in any lineup ….. we can all probably agree tho, that he will never be a dominating feared cleanup hitter every again

  25. wolverine193 says:

Don’t forget .260, 25, and 80 would also include his gold glove defense and stellar clubhouse presence

  26. wolverine193 says:

Would Mientkiewicz be making 14 mil and creating a crater-sized hole in the middle of the lineup?

    • KinersKornerman says:

with all due respect, 25HR and 87RBI is not a crater size hole, especailly in the 5th or 6th lineup position.

And about the $14M, it’s Freddie’s money. Why do you care? Ticket prices are not going down if you bring in Mike Jacobs to play 1B.

      • The Glider says:

Are you that sure about 25 HRs and about 90 ribbies? If we could be sure he would put up those kind of numbers out of the 5 spot, I think I could live with that for this year.

But I think that’s looking at the glass half full. What if you’re wrong? I think we need to start thinking about provisions now.

        • i’m not here to defend delgado, but I just thought I would let everyone know…Ichiro, yes, THAT Ichiro, is batting .040 for the spring. 1-25, no homeruns, no rbis. Delgado is actually out-performing Ichiro this spring.

        • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

What I want to know is, who do you propose being a better option than Delgado, with those below-career-average numbers, at first base? Realistically, please.

People keep forgetting that it’s still his job to lose, and should rightfully be.

  27. therealsince86 says:

Slow down guys. Here is the worst thing I see happening. Delgado struggles more than last year hits .250 with 20-25 HR and 75+ RBI. Move him down to the 7 spot then and move Church up. So what? Those are not bad numbers for a #7 hitter.

  28. Nutz15 says:

So, who actually won yesterday — the Cardials, or the Cardinials?
