Slow down guys. Here is the worst thing I see happening. Delgado struggles more than last year hits .250 with 20-25 HR and 75+ RBI. Move him down to the 7 spot then and move Church up. So what? Those are not bad numbers for a #7 hitter.

What I want to know is, who do you propose being a better option than Delgado, with those below-career-average numbers, at first base? Realistically, please.

People keep forgetting that it’s still his job to lose, and should rightfully be.

1: Due to statistics, last year was by far his worst year of his very consistent career.

2: It really isn’t serious issue towards the Mets’ success this season thus far until they start playing meaningful games.

3: Nah, just typical.

4: At least until I get a large enough sample. If anything, I really think we Mets fans will be more intrigued and distracted by Santana’s success — no jinx — than what happens to Delgado for the first month.

i’m not here to defend delgado, but I just thought I would let everyone know…Ichiro, yes, THAT Ichiro, is batting .040 for the spring. 1-25, no homeruns, no rbis. Delgado is actually out-performing Ichiro this spring.

Are you that sure about 25 HRs and about 90 ribbies? If we could be sure he would put up those kind of numbers out of the 5 spot, I think I could live with that for this year.

But I think that’s looking at the glass half full. What if you’re wrong? I think we need to start thinking about provisions now.

Why can’t he be any worse than last year? If this hip injury plagues him the entire year, i think he can very well be worse than last year.

Why don’t we err on the side of caution?

Wouldn’t that be the prudent thing to do?

with all due respect, 25HR and 87RBI is not a crater size hole, especailly in the 5th or 6th lineup position.

And about the $14M, it’s Freddie’s money. Why do you care? Ticket prices are not going down if you bring in Mike Jacobs to play 1B.
