    John will dominate.

  2. shea_guevara says:

Any way at all of following this game? Other than the glacially paced box score?

  3. Lets go Mets says:

Once it gets started you’ll have people bloging the scores and play by play.

    • vinluvr says:

I think that takes place when the game is being broadcast either on TV, radio, or MLB.tv. There doesn’t appear to be any broadcasts whatsoever today, so refreshing the box score may be our only recourse, unless someone at the game blogs it for us.

  5. Nate W. says:

Scott Schoeneweis and Steven Register are the only pitchers listed to follow John Maine (I would guess Ruddy Lugo and Nate Field as they were on the trip yesterday but didnt pitch)

    Marlins (12-6-1):
    Hanley Ramirez – SS
    Dan Uggla – 2B
    Luis Gonzalez – DH
    Josh Willingham – LF
    Mike Jacobs – 1B
    Jorge Cantu – 3B
    Brett Carroll – RF
    Paul Hoover – C
    Cameron Maybin – CF

    Ricky Nolasco – P

Burke Badenhop, Lee Gardner, Joe Nelson, Randy Williams, and Marcus Gwyn to follow

  6. Nate W. says:

btw, Ramon Castro missed the trip because he has tightness in his hamstrings… oh the humanity

thats it from me, have a good one.

  7. Another Matt says:

Yowch… two catchers with tight hammies. Hope they’re both in the ‘would play if it counted’ category.

Nice to see Beltran able to take the outfield in back-to-back games.

    • Lets go Mets says:

is that too much to ask for?

      • Another Matt says:

Given his off-season surgery to both knees, it would not have been a surprise if he was unable to play today after taking the outfield for the first time this spring yesterday.

  8. CitizenSnips says:

Christ, MLB.com’s scoreboard is slower than death.

    • twassel says:

Is there a rain delay or something? I might have to actually work if this keeps up.

  9. Justin4383 says:

Whatss with the other reyes? is he any good or just here to confuse us?

    • CitizenSnips says:

They should’ve shipped him off to the Twins when they initally asked for Reyes.

    • viktor06 says:

Heh, the guy is having a great spring as well, batting .556 right now

      • Lets go Mets says:

He had like 10 at bats, please, you can’t base anything on that.

        • twassel says:

          He’s now 11 for 19 (.578), but who’s counting?

        • kandiman says:

Since this guy came through our system and is having a great spring training we cannot under any circumstances trade him in any deal

    • ExileInLA says:

      Can A-Reyes play any shortstop?

He’s already shown a better bat than A-Hearn, and has good speed/baserunning skills (27 steals in AA in 07; 24 in high-A in 06); if he can be a serviceable option at short, I’d make him the 25th man while Gotay finishes his rehab (and gets some time on the left side of the infield, to make himself a more useful utility player) in AAA…

      • Nate W. says:

From what I’ve heard Argenis Reyes was naturally a 2B and has played SS and 3B in the minors.

So he will likely be a utility guy or platoon IF at AAA. Not sure on his option status, I would guess he was a 40 man roster casualty of the Tigers, so he might have limited option years left. He does seem to be an upgrade of AH offensively and Gotay defensively. Nice mix for a bench player who can move up and down as needed.

        • Another Matt says:

Reyes almost certainly has an option left for this year. He might possibly still have all his options – you only use them up after you’re added to the 40-man roster, and given he’s never reached AAA, I’m guessing he never made the 40-man.

I wouldn’t get too carried away by his ST hitting though, his minor league hitting has been pretty unspectacular (.674 career OPS in mostly A and never higher than AA ball).

  10. sincekindergarten says:

After 1, it’s 0-0 . . . The “other” Reyes got a single in the top of the 1st, leading off, but apparently was caught stealing. AHern had an error in the bottom of the 1st. Maine had a K in the bottom of the 1st. I got this from the MLB.com box score.

  11. NY Cuban says:

    Delgado just KKKKKK-ed again

    • Another Matt says:

I told my wife when we got Johan that the ’strike out cancer’ people were gonna be happy since they’d be getting more money from the Mets, especially with Pedro back as well.

I should’ve realized they were already over the moon because Delgado’s gonna be playing.

      • Roach2 says:

Please explain this fascinating diatribe, in modern English please :-)

        • Another Matt says:

For the last couple of seasons, the Mets have made a small donation to cancer charities for every K at Shea.

There’s gonna be a lot of them this year, and I just realized, it’s not just because of our strikeout pitching – Delgado’s practically gonna cure cancer by himself if he keeps on like this ;)

I see he did get his first hit of spring (or at least since coming back after the hip thing) – woohoo!

        • foster6986 says:

That promotion is just for Strikeouts Recorded By METS pitchers. So unless you are counting the numerous times Delcrapo is going to strike out in batting practice I don’t think it will help the cancer cause any.

  12. NY Cuban says:

It looks like we are tattooing their pitcher. 4 runs in the 2nd. I’m glad Delgado was our only out.

  13. NY Cuban says:

1-2-3 inning for Maine, with 2 Ks. Looks like the MLB box score is catching up.

  14. CitizenSnips says:

    2 more Ks for Maine.

  15. viktor06 says:

Top of 2nd : Beltran doubles, reaches 3rd on error. Delgado Ks, Valentin walks, Clark walks. Cancel singles, beltran scores. AHern sacrifice flies, Valentin scores. Reyes singles, Clark scores, Chavez singles, Cancel scores. Pagan flies out, end.

    • reyesnwright says:

Delgado got a Hit! Anyone know if it was actually hit well? I only have MLB.com to go by

  16. Massey says:

http://www.mlb.com/gameday has the play by play

  17. eligoodrich says:

hell yea, lets go Mets. Chavez is gonna be fine in left feild until Alou comes back, assuming no trades are pulled off.

  18. kbusch22 says:

Ugh. I come in to find out that we are up 4-0…I’m ecstatic because I think Delgado may have finally done something…but nope.

My patience with him is running thin, even in the spring.

    Go Maine and Beltran!!!

  19. metinDC23 says:

    I think Delgado just got a hit…

  20. NY Cuban says:

Breaking news!!!!: Delgado got a hit…

    • Mister Koo says:

Which fielder lost the popup in the sun?

      • Lets go Mets says:

Mike Cameron against the reds in a game the mets were leading.

        • NYMetz6986 says:

hahahah i was at the game…how devastating was that…everybody in the stadium groaned and put their hands on their heads simultaneously…but i did see that ahern made an error in this game.

        • Lets go Mets says:

how coicidental, It was real devastating

  21. viktor06 says:

Lol, I think Johnny hasnt thrown a ball yet…pure strikes

  22. VCarver says:

Beltran is going to have a big year. I can feel it. Fatherhood agrees with him! MVP candidate and he’ll make Rollins eat his words.

  23. viktor06 says:

And another big rally by our lineup…this is reminding me of Johnny’s last year’s start

  24. Lets go Mets says:

As I said in the first comment of this blog, Maine will dominate.

  25. metinDC23 says:

    7-0

    Beltran single
    Delgado single
    Valentin walk
    Clark walk- Tran scores 5-0
    Cancel singles-Gado scores 6-0
    Hernaderson Sac fly-Valentin scores 7-0
    Reyes grounds out
    Chaves flies out

  26. Lets go Mets says:

    Perfect game?

  27. Lets go Mets says:

    Lets go Mets

  28. Nate W. says:

    Maine: 3IP 0R 2H 0BB 3K’s

  29. NYMetz6986 says:

ofcourse maine gets hoover out today

  30. viktor06 says:

“Carlos Delgado grounds out, pitcher Burke Badenhop to first baseman Mike Jacobs”
    Wow, mustve been a shot

  31. NY Cuban says:

I don’t think I can take 162 games of Delgado. I know its spring, I know he has the bad hip, but he just looks lost out there. What happened to his little notebook? Can he do a little more homework or something?

    • metinDC23 says:

Your probably right. But I can’t panic when he hasn’t even been playing for a week yet.

I don’t think Wright’s doing so great either but I’m not worried about him.

      • Mister Koo says:

Well that’s because Wright is only 25 and is coming off an MVP caliber season. Delgado is 36 and coming off his worst season in his major league career. There are a lot more red flags with Delgado as opposed to Wright.

        • metinDC23 says:

I know- that was bad a example.

I just meant that I can’t totally freak out over delgado just yet.

  32. metinDC23 says:

    Pagan strikes out
Beltran and Delgado both gound out

    Still 7-0

  33. Lets go Mets says:

He probably gave his notebook to Beltrans daughter.

  34. GregB says:

I’m really getting a feeling that Maine is going to have a HUGE year…I may even be able to remember to stop calling him Brett!

  35. Lets go Mets says:

    updates?

  36. Necciai27 says:

No wonder we pounded the snot out of the Marlins’ starter…it’s Ricky Nolasco!

  37. Nate W. says:

    Maine 5.0 3H 0R 1BB 6K

he isnt perfect though, 2 groundouts to 7 flyouts.

  38. Another Matt says:

Nice inning by Show… struck out the first two, then got Cantu to ground out, who’s been a hot righty bat this spring, and rocked Show the first time they faced off.

  39. Nate W. says:

Maine so demoralized the Marlins today that Scott Schoeneweis was able to K two in his inning…

  40. Nate W. says:

nice outing by Mr. Badenhop. 4 shutout against mostly Mets bench and AAA players. He might be one to keep a watch for.

  41. QnsNative718 says:

Any opinion on the Showenweis’ role as a relief pitcher? The man is clearly a LOOGY. The numbers speak for itself… Lefties hit .204 while righties hit em up at for a .316 ba. If thats not utilizing your players the wrong way, I dont know what is…

  42. Jayperez says:

Who did we get for mike jacobs?? I remember when he came up with us. Wish we at least had him right now……

    • Mister Koo says:

Why? Because his .265 average and 17 home runs from last year will be better than what Delgado will do this year?

      • Jayperez says:

no because we could use the depth at first base. Delgado will do w/e he can do this year, im not expecting much but we dont have a young upcoming 1st baseman and delgado’s contract is up i believe after this season. Im just saying with someone like jacobs, it would relieve the pressure of signing delgado back. From what i hear there isnt going to be alot of options in FA for first base except Tex, who will be persued by alot of people.

        • Constnza81V2.0 says:

THe Mets either have to hope Delgado plays well enough to warrant his option being picked up, or they have to think creatively. Dunn is free agent I believe, who will come cheaper than Tex and would be a great #5 presence in this lineup.

You can also chase a guy like Juan Rivera, or trade for a Nady. Probably the likeliest candidates to play 1B out there no one is thinking of because I don’t believe the Mets will be legit players for Tex. Not when they have to shell out big $$ to stablize the rotation (unless after investing in Santana, they’re going to go back to a patchwork rotation).

        • Jayperez says:

yea thats all i was saying. I dont want the mets to be handcuffed to bringing delgado back because of lack of options. dunn has alot of power and is great but doesnt he strike out alot?? Thats going to be a big hole next year like u said with the salary where its at. I would have been nice to have a young first basemen with his best days ahead of him not behind.

  43. twassel says:

Even in his worst career year, Delgado had a better year than Jacobs last year. This year remains to be seen, obviously.

    • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

Jacobs’ best year will never match Delgado’s…

      • Another Matt says:

Sadly, Delgado’s best year was 2000 and is never to be repeated. It was hot, though.

        • twassel says:

2000 was certainly his best year, but he has been remarkably consistent ever since, until last year. (His 2006 year was excellent.) He had a fine second half last year. He is unlikely to return to the MVP-caliber seasons of his youth. He is now 35 going on 36. He may be on the inevitable downslide–it’s certainly possible. But how about we give him a couple of dozen at bats before we bury him? He may still be a solid, productive player, who will complement Beltran, Wright et al.

  44. wolverine193 says:

Delgado got a hit? Do we have video confirmation of this? Was the outfielder he hit the ball to taking a leak at the time?

    • thewrightstuff says:

Word around the water cooler is that he bunted ;)

      • CaseStreet says:

I suggested that the other day.

        • Saltzy23 says:

Can I make another point about his Royal Delcrappieness I havent seen discussed yet. Speed. OK, hes gonna “hit” (bwhahaha) mid-bot of the lineup. So maybe its not gonna affect Reyes, Beltran, or Wright that much…BUT….Unless Im wrong, outside of Alou when healthy(and the catcher, but thats expected) the whole team is built on speed, or at least its a factor. Castillo(shouldnt bother him that much), Church can run, Endy, Pagan, Anderson, Gotay, Easley, AHern…all have decent to good speed. Everytime he even does manage to get on base he’s gonna clog up the basepaths for anyone that gets on after him…Right? Am I crazy here?

        • metinDC23 says:

          I don’t think he’s that slow.

          I mean he’s not Piazza-slow.

        • Saltzy23 says:

I think you drastically understimate his DelCrappieness….

You dont think a bum hip on a 36 year old sloth will affect his ability to (not) run around the bases when he (doesnt) get on base? I guess we (will never) find out soon enough….

        • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

We get it, you don’t like Delgado. Broken record.

        • metinDC23 says:

Haha- man you really hate him…

I think I’m just gonna hope his injury issues work themselves out and he plays like he did at the end of last year. That would be just fine for the #6 hitter.

        • Another Matt says:

It’s not like we’re gonna have Paul Lo Duca hitting 2nd.

        • Saltzy23 says:

          DelCrapo suc….DelCrapo suc….DelCrapo suc……

        • metsftw says:

oh my god. someone just said “clog up the bases.” IS DUSTY BAKER ON METSBLOG?!

    • Hazmet says:

Send out an Insurance Claims Adjuster, must have been an accident.

I’ve always barked he was done after the second half of his first year with us. That his post season that year was his last hurrah rising to the occassion after finally getting into the playoffs for the first time.

He was awful last year, but his numbers were better then any available option since any trade chips we had we needed to save to get Johan this past offseason. I’m gonna just hope I’m wrong and he either bounces back for one last lap or does just enough not to kill us. Then get Tiexiera next offseason. It’s so easy spending other peoples money.
