how about horacio ramirez?? he was dropped by the m’s..just as some pitching depth…he is a lefty, has some talent and the jacket could probably work with him

That is exactly why its going to be a problem. That is the crux of my arguement against putting Valentin on the roster to begin with.

For what it’s worth, it’s not like Valentin said he would try to catch on with another team if he didn’t make the roster in April. He would just retire. So yeah, his comments weren’t selfish per se, and given the injury bug that’s hit camp so far, I’m sure they’re going to find space for him.

Who’s looking for 12-3 from a #5 pitcher? If we had that, we’d be talking about ‘86-like numbers of wins.

If he goes 6-7, that’s good enough because we’ll be screwed anyway if we’re not winning a good majority of starts by the 1-4 pitchers.

They team has so many question marks right now with health that lots can change by 5/1. So hopefully he takes the AAA assignment to get PT and see what happens.

I always liked humber, and thought he should have gotten a better shot last year when the pitching was falling apart. But, at least he went for Santana.

Keep in mind though that ST stats don’t guarantee success in the regular season, plus 9 innings is a real small sample. And who was he facing?

I think Valentin said in the begining that he would stay around and do whatever they ask him to do until May 1. At that point if he is not able to make the MLB team he’s done. I applaud him for that not ridicule him. Who wants to sit around in AAA after a decent career just in hope that they might need you later in the season. AAA is no MLB, I would do the same thing. Either I am good enough or I am not. I am not going to get any better at age 38.
