The Mets are home tonight taking on the Cleveland Indians.
SS Jose Reyes will bat leadoff, followed in order by 2B Luis Castillo, 3B David Wright, CF Carlos Beltran, 1B Damion Easley, RF Ryan Church, C Raul Casanova, LF Angel Pagan and tonight’s pitcher RH John Maine
John Maine will start for the Mets. He has allowed 11 hits and 4 runs in 13 2/3 innings pitched this spring.
Billy Wagner, Aaron Heilman, and Scott Schoeneweis are scheduled to pitch as well.
The game is being broadcasted tonight on SNY at 7:10 pm.

anybody watching sny? reyes had way too many dances/handshakes to remember last year..lol
any chance this game is gonna be on the fan?
nevermind devils rangers is tonight
no i think devils vs rangers is on fan
lets go mets, lets go rangers
sny just had commercials during the 1st 2 minutes of the game.
Maine really hung that one.
Can anyone explain why the voiceover in those Outback Steakhouse ads is done by a New Zealander? Disgrace!
You’re assuming any of us Americans can tell the difference?
Unfortunately, thats very true.
Be happy it’s not creepy Guiseppe Franco.
No kidding – those ads are so bad and, as you say, creepy.
Who eats that rubbish, anyway?
Hey, I’m in a fantasy league, and we need a few more people still. Its a yahoo free fantasy league. If you are interested, the league id is

I think Casanova ate Mike DeFelice…
Johnny is dealing.
I like the new “share this” widget. It is definitely a brave new world.
Go Johnny Go! I have a lot of confidence this guy is going to have a hell of a season.
earlier today…
The New Orleans Zephyrs lost to the Las Vegas 51s 5-3 today in Vero Beach, FL. Adam Bostick went four innings and gave up five hits, one run, walked a batter and had one strikeout in his start. Infielder Argenis Reyes went 3-4 and catcher Shawn Wooten had two hits in the game.
Tomorrow the Zephyrs return home to Port St. Lucie to take on the Albuquerque Isotopes.
the B-Mets tied 5-5 in Vero Beach, Florida in a rematch with the Jacksonville Suns.
Pitching was strong for the B-Mets despite a rough first inning by Jonathan Niese. The southpaw was set to end the first inning on a double play ground ball but hit a snag when the ball went through the legs of 2nd baseman Emmanuel Garcia. This led to 3 runs being scored for Jacksonville, 2 of which were listed as unearned. Niese finished with 3 innings pitched with 5 hits, 1 earned run and 3 strikeouts.
Left field Jamar Hill went a perfect 2-2 in the game with an RBI double in the 5th inning. Shortstop Jose Coronado added to the inning with a 2-run double himself. Centerfield Josh Peterson went 1-3 with an RBI in the contest while the Designated Hitter Daniel Murphy scored on a wild pitch in the 7th inning. First baseman Mike Carp add the other hits for the B-Mets going 2-4.
if you are copying and pasting you should probably reference the source
??? Blog police?
I don’t know where Nate W. gets his information, but he’s the sole person that keeps me in touch with the minors. I never say it, but… Appreciate the ka-nowledge, slim.
No Duelz, not the blog police… and i personally enjoy Jordan’s work on the minors; his analysis and commentary is actually my favorite addition to Metsblog2.0. That said i also appreciate Nate’s contribution, especially the play by play this ST.
I just believe in giving credit where credit is due.
the info was from two sources
zephers.com and bmets.com
Those should have been your first two guesses, right? :)
I give credit to the news persons when I copy something of thiers because its actually written. The info above was basic recap info. I dont find it necessary to give any credit. Its like crediting gameday as a source, or a box score. Its no writing, its fact relaying.
fair enough. thanks Nate.
Maine looks like he’s on the brink of being an elite pitcher…if he can work this quickly and fiercely on a sustained basis, he can be a top 5 starter. He just made Victor Martinez look foolish on a fastball up and away – no easy task. He’s thrown 93 consistently all night, on the black, and has worked the strike zone up/down and side-to-side. Really impressive…
Fierce. Ugh.
Maine getting almost to 100 pitches is both a good thing and a bad thing…
with two ST starts left he appears quite ready for the regular season where he will rarely approach 110 pitches max.
yet being a strikeout pitcher he’s quite likely to throw those 100-110 pitches in 6 innings or less… which doesnt really improve over last year for him.
I’ll take 6 shut out innings every time, with an occasional 7th thrown in!
Power pitchers have to be able to throw a few more pitches if they are going to survive (and get 7-8 innings reasonanbly often).
Thats the problem, this was about as good as he gets (on a regular basis) and it was still 97 pitches in 5 2/3 IP.
Throw in a couple more hits, or an error, or more than 1 BB and you get 5 IP, 3-4 ER, and 105 pitches.
If you’re going to claim anything as an ‘every time’ minimum it shouldnt be more than that. He’ll have to be more effecient to take it to the next level consistently.
or, just go 120-130 pitches if he is stong and cranking along.
This fear about exceeding 100 pitches has gotten a bit out of hand.
I’d love to see it, but its not like the Mets or any other team would let it happen.
i’m not understanding your logic here Nate, what you’re saying is that your prediction is that Maine is a 5 inning pitcher who will give up 3-4 runs which basically means he’ll do worse then last year. How exactly did you come the conclusion that he’ll do that much worse?
no no, thats more of a minimum. As in that is his lesser typical starts. What he did tonight would be his greater typical starts. So he should average somewhere in between. A few shut out bids like game 161, and a few clunkers, but mostly between those two ends of the ‘typical’ spectrum.
I anticipate him to be similar to last year, but if he can find a way to be more effecient at times he could really take a leap forward. Being a strikeout pitcher he’s not likely to find a way to get ~5 more groundouts a gameinstead, so it’ll be a challenge for him.
i think he’ll improve, I think his best games will look like his no-hit bid he gave us late last year. About 8 innings, no runs, a bunch of K’s and I agree on the other end, excluding clunkers, which everyone will have. I don’t see him getting THAT much better, but he’ll improve. I think just his mindsight will help that along with his offspeed stuff, which really looks better this year.
Hey if he can give us 5 of those kind of starts, I’ll be exstatic with the 25 middle ground starts and 2 clunkers. But If he’s equal to last year its more likely to be 3 shutouts and 4 clunkers.
I’m with you on the marginally better expectation. And if he takes little steps up each year he will be about as good a #2 starter as you can have by the time he reaches free agency.
I’d rather watch david and jose race
Endy was safe…but, eh, who cares – it’s ST.
Hey, imagine that…Drury scores a clutch late goal in an important game..
They’re stealing a point right now, the Rangers have looked pathetic tonight. Can’t hardly get in the zone…
Make that two points…
Yes! plain larceny to get two points in that game.
And thank goodness for Henrik.
The Devils really do make hockey boring, I kept trying to watch the hockey but kept switching back to the Mets due to the Devils way of grinding the game into a ugly unwatchable mess. No wonder they have almost no fans…
i love ranger fans…the devils play defense and they are sucking the life out of the game and making the game boring,..yet when the rangers play the trap which they always do under renney it is a solid defensive effort, a bit of a double standard don’t you think?
Hey looks like Maine Street USA is gonna run right through Shea
even though it was the other team, its great to see a box score where a team only uses two pitchers. The season is getting close…
Something you dont see often…
Joe Smith is 2-0 with an 8.59 ERA.
The MAINE event is about ready to roll through Shea. Watch out.
I was at the game tonight, full house in St. Lucie. Took forever to get into the staduim — like a late summer night at Shea. I’m a Spring Traning novice and didn’t expect a sell out.
Lot’s of Indian fans in attendance and most left early. Must have been past their bed time.
Good pitching. Bad Cleveland defense = Mets win. Mets offense needs a boost. Pagan looked overmatched.
I was out on the berm in RF and twice a Sr. Citizen Mets fan had trouble walking up from the steep incline. They should have a handcapped area out there or post some signs.
The face value of the ticket was $6 but I actually paid another $8 in fees! That’s just deceptive business practices. I picked up my tickets at will call and still had to pay all the fees. It’s CHEAPER to sell on the internet because the team doesn’t have to pay someone to answer the phone.
This is a major rip off and consumers ought to press to outlaw “hidden” fees like this. The list price should be the final price, period.
