Anderson Hernandez sucks! Why is he still around? He can't hit and should not be on this team....

I questioned the Kep-Rubie trade at the time. I felt Jeff was looked at as a decent glove with limited bat potential. Unless I am mistaken, he was hitting around 340 late in the season last year, albeit (although) it was in limited AB's. anyone know if he reached 200 AB's or was it more like 150 ?

Ruben definitely deserves a shot .... The Luis Love Affair can not possibly go on for the full four years of the outrageous contract .... He was a great table setter in Miami, but once the knees, ankle or legs in general go, it's pretty much over for the spark plug type of guys.

The first time a player is placed on waivers in a season, it's revokable. After that, it isn't.

Its probably because Willie played 2nd. Thats how dumb he is. You would think Gotay couldnt even throw a ball with the way they talk about him.

Tell me as a strategy, why on earth would you sign an aging 2nd baseman to a four year contract?

As we have all said, the best is how Anderson Hernandez gets all the chances in the world hitting .150 yet Keppinger and Gotay get shipped off for being better then average.

The more you think of it the more all signs point to Willie liking defensive 2nd baseman since he himself couldnt hit for power.

And as another person noted. Defense usually comes with age. It is much harder to get better at hitting, and impossible to develop more power. So in my eyes, I go with guys that can hit and develop their defense as opposed to guys that cant hit.

actually the two players both had one option year remaining when they were swapped.

They were nearly identical except for (their nationality) the idea that Gotay was a SS while Kepp clearly wasnt. Turns out that neither is a SS.

keppinger is an older, paler version of gotay. that's why the trade happened. the same complaints about gotay were the same ones levied against keppinger except kepp has less range.

it stinks that gotay got hurt because he never got a chance to show any improved defense or right-handed hitting. there's not enough time for him to gain ground and the team has to move on. it's unfortunate for gotay but not a crisis-inducing issue.

I just wrote this and it didnt post but long story short Kent may be gritty and a hard worker but quiet and a good teammate he is not.

i think its pretty well known that jeff kent is a douche bag. a great player but a douche bag.

I think the Mets are putting a lot of stock into defense. I can't think of a team that is more solid "up the middle" with Schneider, Castillo/Reyes, and Beltran in center. That being said, I have always been very skeptical of the idea that second base is a defensively important position, and I was a second baseman for a while. An outfielder with soft enough hands can play the position adequately, and usually his bat can more than make up for any sporadic spectacular plays that only the best defensive second basemen can make. This is all pretty untrue for shortstops. I really like Gotay's bat, and I am sure he'll get picked up somewhere on the wire.
