Theres another interesting name for our 1B/OF/utility player debate. The Phillies would probably never trade him to us, but if Wes Helms is released he might be an option. Has played 1st 3rd and LF in his career, bats right and hit 280 against lefties last.

He is currently being shopped but if they can't find a trading partner will most likely be waived.

Thoughts?

Youre right, my bad. It was Darkstar that was giving me grief. I apoligize...

I guess its two different types of 'count on'. I know I cant 'count on' Alou playing regulary, but when he does I always have confidence he'll come through.

Whereas Deldago, I know can probably be 'counted on' to play 120 games, but I have very little confidence he will perform.

I have to agree. We all knew what we were getting with Alou when Minaya signed him...one of the best natural hitters in MLB, but also one of the most injury prone.

When he played he was by and far our overall best hitter. He does hold the most consecutive games with a hit record by any Met...

When he plays we get hits....and I'd rather have that than not.

1. i didn't give you "crap" over your delgado comments so it would be difficult for ME to be a hypocrite over them. i don't represent every poster on here

2. alou has played 98 then 87 games the last two years. he will likely miss the first 50-60 games this year. meaning perfect health the rest of the year would barely get him to 100 games. who in their right mind would count on him?

3. delgado gets 500+ ab's every year. he's not the old delgado (30+hr 100+rbi), but he will likely have 30d 25hr 85rbi which is fine with the mets improved pitching and a healthy reyes, wright, and beltran

As someone who had the same type of emergency hernia surgery 13 days ago I can assure you all he will be back quicker then we all think. Its outpatient surgery. I was in surgery by 9 and being wheeled to my ride by 11. Sure, I was sore (still am) and swollen (thankfully gone) for the first week, but 13 days later I feel fine. The biggest issue is letting the scar tissue heal over the mesh screen they implant over the hernia to hold it in place....meaning no lifting or swinging....but physically Alou should be fine since he had a week or two head start on me.

Wait....so I get constant crap for saying Delgado cant be relied on, and that I'm gonna be 'up one day and down the next the whole season', but you just completely fold on one of 2-3 players that performed at the end of last season, and ended up hitting .341?

Seems a tad hypocritical, no?

As for now I guess it's Pagan and Chavez aaaaaaaaaand as of right now even though I am pretty sure they will make a deal for a waiver pickup ...........Clark and Tatis are in the battle for the final spot- Righty bat

Maybe Gotay for Murton can go down..............oh crap i dunno

Well, the hernia injury is a different type of thing. With the quad, no was sure just how badly the muscle was hurt, and all there was to do was rest it until it healed.

With the hernia, there was surgery to repair it, and now he's recovering from the surgery; presumably they have a better idea about what's going on with him physically, and how he'll recover.
