How many innings did Parnell throw this Spring? I dont think he gave up an earned run! not bad kid not bad.

  2. Airfeet says:

So who is going to be our number 5 now?

  3. puffbobby says:

why are the comments off for the watching of the game at that bar post??? anyway, how many people are going? will i be turned away if i get there late?? is there a private room?? this place looks small….

  4. Charlie says:

boy oh boy, nelson, not good for you. big pelf must be smiling.

    • bonatom says:

Smiling because someone stinks as much as he does… There is NO WAY on Earth Big Pelf gets the nod for 5th starter.

      • DjDeF says:

        Who will?

There is no way he doesn’t get the nod for 5th starter.

There is simply nobody else. Duque pitched 1 game. He will pitch 1 more time before the season starts. Figueroa was a long shot and is even longer shot now. Sosa is the only viable option other then Pelfrey and I think they prefer him in the bp.

        • bonatom says:

I would absoluetley 100% take Sosa over Pelfrey (Now). Listen Pelfrey is Terrible right now.. I mean awefull.

Damn Lohse would have been perfect

  5. zen says:

on claudio vargas: “That’s a good name,” Minaya said. “We’re going to take a close look at him.”

  6. Charlie says:

mike and the maddog are having a HAA-YUGE fight on the FAN right now…sooo funny.

    • stickguy says:

      about what?

    • scottmetsfan says:

i couldn’t believe it either. i was waiting after i parked my car, for the update to see what happened with the mets game. they started yelling and hollering and i was transfixed. i couldn’t turn it off even though i can’t stand either one and i had to get somewhere. two buffoons yelling is interesting entertainment.

  7. metsdude13 says:

    Ok..now what?

  8. stickguy says:

Vargas is intriquing. If the jacket can get him pitching like the beginning of last year, the issue with the 5 hole goes away.

I wonder if Omar is willing to get a “real” #5 (that being someone that would be put on the ML roster, and expected to fill the slot all year), with Duque still kicking around.

For now, everyone being considered is optionable, or a retread, or in the pen, so no biggie. But say they get Vargas, or traded for Marquis. Duque would have no place on the team (I think the pen is a non starter).

So, would Omar just cut him loose? Try (wouldn’t happen though) to trade him? Or most scarey, not pick up a good otion, since Duque would be clogging up the works.

Best case, unfortunately, for the Mets just could be he blows up (before being activated!) and has to be shut down fo the year or at least a big chunk of it, so the team (and fans!) can just move on.

The Murton + Marquis idea isn’t actually sounding too bad right now!

  9. gbaked says:

Omar: so who here wants a roster spot?

Smith: not me, NYC is scary

Figueroa: being in the show is overrated, i wanna stay in the minors

Big Pelf: When I am on the big club people mock my stupid mouthpiece, I would rather go to the minors.

    El Duque: Que?

  10. Number41 says:

    11 stranded….
    the heck with #5
    we need a hammer.

  11. vitto79 says:

hey how about the bright side……………….we are not worrying about the top 4!…………man they are looking good

So big whoop………who does’nt have problems with the 5th starter ……oh and I would like to state it’s not a problem yet since the season has’nt started…………..we are assuming Pelfrey will stink or Duque won’t be able to pitch with his new delivery

how about we see what happens when they both go tommorow

Also Sosa is a good option. He did well last yr.

And their is bull pen depth

But yea the Marquis , Murton idea actually does make sense on paper………………..Nice made up trade proposal, haha…………could’nt of done it better myself!

  12. Mingo says:

As I said before, you only need an innings eater. Someone with a 5.00 ERA will go 6 innings per start and allow 3-4 runs on average every game. I can live with that out of the 5 spot every time.

    • Kalihan42 says:

agreed. If they were a stud they would not be pitching in a number 5 slot. Just someone to eat innings is fine.

      • stickguy says:

yes and no (or is that just maybe?)

#5 is only relative to the other 4 guys. It just usually works out to be someone that stinks, because most teams don’t have 5 good starters.

say the Mets had lucked out and had 1 more solid guy. It is possible that player X could slot in at #4, pushing say Perez back to #5.

Perez is certainly not what you would qualify as a #5, but he would be here in that case.

anyway, when I said “real” starter earlier, I meant someone like Lohse, that could reasonably be expected to just slot into the rotation and make his 30 or so starts, just like everyone else!

  13. Kalihan42 says:

Nice to see a little production out of Delgado before the season winds down. If he can get healthy enough to give us 5 solid outings a week with a day off once a week here and there to keep him fresh. Marlon can hold down the bottom of the line-up a day or two a week.

    • paumanok says:

I’d play Easley in place of Delgado once a week, preferably against a lefty. I also think Delgado will step up to the challenge this year. I think we underestimate how much he wants to win.

  14. Phantaroth says:

We should have signed Kyle Loshe, especially considering the contract he got.

And no, I am not second guessing. I told my friend we should sign Loshe because of depth at SP and I even called that he would get 1 year between 4-5 mil (he got 1 year 4.5)….

And to be clear: I am not trying to be a typical negative mets fan. I still believe we our the best team in the NL, but that doesn’t mean Omar wouldn’t have done some small things to sure up depth issues…

    • mrose says:

this is an easy thing to say
but we don’t know what happened…in ST louis…Lohse was basically guaranteed a spot…here…he had afew bad outtings..then there is el duque, there is pelfrey….he went with the better idea…a more or less guaranteed spot all year barring injury and then he can look again next year..

So yea…we shouldhave signed him…could we have??? I don’t know but its something to think about

      • mackey_sassers_arm says:

All I know is, if Kyle Lohse is pitching in a game, I would much rather the mets be facing him than playing behind him.

    • therealsince86 says:

It’s just not that easy, what do you then do with Elduque when he is healthy? They wont just release him and he will be healthy if only temporarily.

      • Two-By-Four says:

I don’t believe that bunions mysteriously disappear or that the issue can be solved by Dr. Scholls’ Gel Pads. So, it’s a question of whether or not El Dugue can be effective with his new motion and diminished vedlocity.

  15. m00kie says:

I’m heading to Orlando for a day of Disney World and Mets vs Braves (I’m cursed to only see the mets play the braves unfortunately!) This will be my first spring training experience..I hope some of the A team shows up! Look for me out in the lawn on ESPN tomorrow .. I’ll be the one with the Reyes jersey on, my wife will have an obnoxiously loud orange and blue mets tie dye on :)

    wh00p I”m excited!!!!

    • mackey_sassers_arm says:

any play by play from the lawn??

    • Number41 says:

      Have fun, mook

    • Steal Home Jose! says:

Actually, I think a game at the Braves is the worst experience in spring training. Not only is it the braves, but it’s not like the rest of the grapefruit ballparks. In other stadiums, you can get up close access to the players. At Disney, it is pretty much like going to a crappy MLB game. High ticket prices far away from the field. They even have an upper deck there. It might not be so bad from the Berm, if that is where your seats are.

      • m00kie says:

12 bucks for seats on the lawn, which appears to be near the first base dugout.. shouldn’t be too bad. I’ll report back tomorrow!

    • Two-By-Four says:

Are you taking the Pointer Sisters with you? :)

      Have fun!

  16. stickguy says:

prediction: Alou comes back ~May 1, and stays in one piece, playing semi-regularly, though July, then takes most of August off, and comes back 1/2 time in September, looking to be fully back for the playoffs.

That should end up at 90-100 games.

Delgado will play 125-130 games, and put up acceptable numbers, at least good enough to not be a black hole, with occasional hot streaks where he can sorta carry the offense.

    • Number41 says:

we need one more solid stick…Stick

      • stickguy says:

My solid swing is 20 years in the past. Forget about not catching up to a high FB, I probably wouldn’t even see it as it went by!

But yes, one more big bat in this lineup (say, like Maglio Ordonez in RF) and this team would be a dynamo.

  17. KinersKornerman says:

Prediction: Phillies will be decimated by injuries. Watch as they acquire Bob Wickman to close games and/or mop up when both Lidge and Gordon go on the DL.

  18. BBmetsfreak36 says:

i just scored some nice box seats for a braves game. i wanna make my own sign saying “beware of foul balls” and just to mess w/ peoples head go up to the upper deck and put it there just to mess w/ people’s heads

    • m00kie says:

it’s crazy .. you can still get dugout seats for the mets games at turner field. Do these stupid rednecks even know it’s baseball season?

  19. AidanO says:

does any1 know Johans line in his minor league start i havent heard any of the stats from that start

  20. cpboyan says:

Is it me or are we leaving a lot of men on base?

  21. Number41 says:

    like I says CP
quit worring about a 5 starter; we need a hammer!

    • KinersKornerman says:

      John Milner?

    • batsinthepelfrey says:

how about jim ‘the hammer’ shapiro? only people who grew up or went to school in upstate ny will get this reference but that guy was the best. “he may be and SOB but he’s your SOB.” other than crazzy eddie, best commercials i’ve ever seen.

  22. metz1 says:

stanley tools is offering one for the low price of 3lbs of catfish!

  23. metz1 says:

but seriously x.nady would be nice! I know they want something in return but its not like were asking for mike schmidt!

    • metzelaar says:

      I’d trade Heilman for Nady.

      • ASod1975 says:

Heilman is too valuable, and the bullpen would be awfully thin without him. A guy like Murton would likely be cheaper to acquire because he’s out of options and the Cubs would virtually have to deal him.

      • zen says:

you’d cost the mets the division. for ryan church batting righty.

      • Nutz15 says:

Glad you’re not our GM……….all due respect, of course.

  24. vitto79 says:

Ok let’s trade our set up man for a Righty bat on the bench……….that may platoon vs lefties in RF and get a few AB’s vs lefties at 1B

Heilman is worth alot to this team…………….

Murton makes sense but if not just go with Easley in the IF for Delgado and Tatis will get a chance as the Righty bat in RF

Still think Omar will pull a deal off for someone like Murton in the next few days

Not worried about the 5th starter cause it’s the 5th stater………Duque will be ready eventually……….Peflrey or Sosa can fill in……….or signing Vargas

    • metzelaar says:

I think we have a wealth of capable bullpen arms:

Duaner, Wagner, Schoenweis, Wise, Feliciano, and Sosa are all average/above average arms. Then you slot in guys like Figueroa, Smith, possibly El Duque and Kunz, all of whom have plenty of potential to be great in a bullpen role.

You could even think of it this way: by adding Sanchez and getting rid of Heilman, you still have what projects to be an even better bullpen than last year.

Not to mention that fact that Nady would be a lot more than just a bench player, both now and in the future. He could fill in for Church or Delgado when we face lefties this year, take over in left when Alou gets hurt, take over for Alou in left next year, or take over for Delgado at first next year. He’s very versatile, and worth the high price it’d take to get him.

      • KinersKornerman says:

Disagree completely. Duaner won’t be making the trip north. Do you trust Show or Wise to be set up guys when you trade Heilman. No thanks.

Btw, Heilman is one of our few draft picks that made it to the big leagues and is still with the organization. Isn’t that worth anything?

  25. vitto79 says:

Oh and is Valentin done or what?………..may be ok to have him at AAA for a bit if Gotay is released and does’nt clar waivers……………also I imagine we find out about Register tommorow

surprises me the Pirates didnt just pick him up and instead got Yates in a deal but hey whatev

  26. KinersKornerman says:

Why does everybody think Nady is some kind of stud outfielder?
He’s a right handed Ryan Church with worse defense. Not even better numbers than Brady Clark.
    Nady – .272/.327/.768
    Church – .271/.348/.810
    Clark – .278/.358/.745

Certainly NOT worth a good setup guy.

    • zen says:

it’s the psychology of the mets fan. when they expect nothing from you and you’re decent they love you (nady, gotay, pagan). if they expect a lot from you and you’re very good, but not babe ruth they hate you (beltran)

      • KinersKornerman says:

        zen,
Thank you. Word for word, that might be the smartest post I’ve seen in a while. Nicely said.

      • paumanok says:

        who hates beltran?

      • Two-By-Four says:

It’s the psychology of all obsessive fans covering many types of sports. It’s not just Mets fans. You see the same response from Yankees fans, Red Sox fans, Phillies fans, etc. You don’t see it in those venues where they don’t give a flying beep about their team or are extremely laid back. However, there is one exclusion from this list. The St. Louis fans seem to support their players through good and bad times.
