BTW, I’m listening to the game, Ill try to post any ‘major occurances’ if no one else is doing play-by-play…

    • K-Hern says:

      much obliged

    • DjDeF says:

I was getting worried but got my tickets yesterday.

    • Giaco says:

I just got mine yesterday from DHL

comes with a very very cool Shea stadium wooden box and media guide

      • Saltzy23 says:

Grrr….(towards the Mets, not you)….trust me, I know about all the goodies…I saw the box on ebay yesterday. It looks nice. Its just that some of the people sharing the account with me arent gonna be around, and just need their tickets already.

Everyone I know has theirs tickets already. What the F? I’m starting to wonder if I’ve fallen in between the cracks….

        • kowalski69 says:

I got my sunday pack yesterday, still waiting for my opening day tix… on that note –

Anyone notice the first page of the media guide? Aquafina Ad?

“Sponsor of Mr. Met, Cowbells, and all things NY METS”

Hope eddie saw some coin out of that promotion… It’s like the naked cowboy suing M&M corp in times sq.

  3. twassel says:

    Top 1st–strikeout and two groundouts.

  4. twassel says:

    Bottom 1–3 groundouts.

  5. BlueTrane says:

Someone help me understand why Luis Castillo turns his whole body when he swings….

It makes a bit of sense when he is advancing the runner, but when you are up with nobody on and swing like that…..jeez it gets me annoyed.

    • Tidewater says:

Why did Bobby Tolan hold the bat so high above his head? Why did Joe Morgan flap his elbow? Why did Jeff Bagwell look like he was sitting on a stool? Why did Willie Stargell windmill his bat? Why does Gary Sheffield wave his cocked bat back and forth?

      It annoys you?

      Who the f cares?

    • darkstar73 says:

you what annoys me? fans thinking they know better then major leaguers…but hey, you should tell luis, i mean, he’s just an almost career .300 hitter, thats easy right?

  6. farb09 says:

does anyone know how pedro looked?

  7. twassel says:

    Top 2: 3 flyouts.

  8. FireIsiah says:

Thank You Carlos (Delgado) and that’s the approach I want from you all year. Liner the other way for a 1b.

  9. metsin080910 says:

    Delgado is 1-1, single

  10. metsin080910 says:

That’s the approach he HAS to have all year if he is going to be successful. Especially when that awkward shift is on.

    • FireIsiah says:

from ur lips to his ears

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

he definitely needs to think that way when hes up there but if he still cant do anything at all with inside fastballs hes still going to struggle bc eventually thats all he’ll see.

  11. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Maybe we can trade Delgado for Ortiz, who nearly got the golden sombrero yesterday and didn’t look too good in the Japan series.

    • ravi3 says:

eh..I’d rather wait it out and then trot out Mark Teixeira for the CitiField opening….and if Omar can convince Wilpon to shell out the cash for him, then he will be without a doubt the best GM in Mets history, next to Frank Cashen (and I’m way to young for the late 60’s teams, so don’t go there)

  12. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Even though it is a good sign that Delgado is hitting the ball the other way, he does need to show he can still pull the ball. Hitting the ball the other way, most of the time means he is late which leads to a lot of strikeouts.

    • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

He’s late if he’s hitting it the other way? Huh?

    • Another Matt says:

Uhh, not really… it just means he’s going with it when they pitch him away.

At this point we all – Delgado included – have to accept that he’s no longer able to turn on up-and-in fastballs.

His best bet is to start taking those pitches – he swung at a lot of balls last year – and punish them any time they stray outside. Then if pitchers demonstrate they’re determined to only pitch him inside (and are able to keep throwing strikes), he can back off the plate a little and give himself a chance.

    • darkstar73 says:

i believe he’s trying to hit the ball the other way, he’s waiting on the ball more, instead of lunging at it, which leads to hitting the ball later, and in turn, going the other way. Most people consider this a better way to hit, as you see the ball longer and you learn patience, instead of trying to go out and get the ball each time.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

You guys are right, Delgado probably is going with the pitch the other way, I don’t even know what I was thinking. I guess when someone says “Just out in front of that one or just a little late on that swing” I get confused.

  13. Nate W. says:

    per Mets notes on SNY:

Stokes pitched 4 innings in Pedro’s simulated game spurring speculation that he could be the 5th starter or long man opening up Sosa to be the 5th starter or a short reliever.

    • Another Matt says:

      … or traded.

      Gotay+Sosa for Murton?

This club doesn’t really seem to believe much in long relievers. Especially when they’re Sele.

  14. Nate W. says:

Molina reached base, Endy followed with a bunt single so two on and none out. Then Jose Reyes straight sacrifice bunted… what?

    either way, Mets rallying

  15. metsin080910 says:

    I just remembered….. we haven’t hit a Grad Slam since 06′.

    • mrose says:

that KILLED me all last year..
but i do remember i think it was opening day, Wright smacking a double to left and i was under covered seats and the crowd went crazy and my friend and I thought it was a granny until we saw Wright on 2nd

  16. lambay says:

and Wright hits a 2 run RBI single!

  17. Nate W. says:

Omar is talking up Tatis, he can play all over, is a righty bat… so looks like he will make the team.

He pointed out how he can play 1B as well as LF.

  18. Santanaman says:

What’s up w/ Parnell? That was good work through a decent starting lineup.

    • Another Matt says:

      Very nice looking line today.

He seems to be progressing steadily through the minors – reached AA last year. Could do with reducing his walks, but at this stage of his development, that’s not unexpected. Nice K/IP ratio.

I think the scouts say he’s probably a reliever, but the Mets are giving him another season as starter before they push him into the BP

      • Santanaman says:

This is what I love about ST. Getting a look at guys like Parnell. Something to look forward to.

  19. twassel says:

    5 scoreless from Parnell. 3 H, 1 BB, 5K

    • Saltzy23 says:

      Delgado update…

1-3, in order(Single,Fly Out, K)…..slammed bat and helmet. after AB….

There ya go Carlos….get angry. Now were talking….YOU STINK…..

If this was an SAT test the best guess for his next AB would be……? A. Sleeping, B. Dead C. Watching TV D. Announces Retirement. E. All of the above…

  20. Saltzy23 says:

    Jorge Cantu, 3 run wind-aided HR….

    3-2 Fish…

    Nuts….

  21. Santanaman says:

We have been coming back quite a few times this spring. I just hope it carries into the reg season.

I totally hate this live box score thing!

    • Saltzy23 says:

and MLB Gameday is down I guess…..amatueur hour these days….

You saying I’m not good enough? Huh? My updates arent up to your stardards!!!…

      JK….

  22. Saltzy23 says:

    Urgh…

    Jacobs 2 run HR….Killed it as well apparently….to RCF….

    6-2….bad guys

  23. Saltzy23 says:

    2 Run-single Delgado!!!!…

    I love Carlos Delgado…..

    6-4….

  24. Saltzy23 says:

    Dirty is in…details to follow…

I kinda like this. I have nothin to do today anyway….might as well post updates….

Yikes, apparently liner up the box almost took Sanchez’ head off…THAT would have been a bad thing….either way, single up the middle….

  25. zen says:

lord beltran with another great catch

  26. Saltzy23 says:

Beltran makes fantastic(Im assuming, FAN-TASTIC they way the announcers are calling it) diving catch in RCF to save 2 runs…

Announcers called it ‘best play they have seen all Spring.’

Who said Beltran cant play CF anymore?….shame on you…..

Dirty proceeds to give up double LF down line to Myerson(?) scoring one…

    7-4 Fish…

    Nuts again….

    • Another Matt says:

We never had any right to expect that Dirty was gonna be lights out from day 1.

He still makes our bullpen better than last year though.

Nice sign that Beltran’s fielding well though… sounds like he must be at least up to 93.7%. We need a good centerfielder with our pitching.

    • Nate W. says:

couldnt tell on Beltran’s play. SNY must have been using the A ball camera man because they showed Clark pursuing the ball and then Beltran flew into the picture sideways. They had no replays.

  27. Saltzy23 says:

Reyes deep double off wall….Hes gonna have a huge year. I can feel it. Starting to really look good…anyway…

    Run scores…7-5

    • slangon says:

if anything, i’m loving the first 5 spots in the box score:

      Reyes: 1-3, 1 rbi, 1 bb
      Castillo: 1 run, 3 bb
      Wright: 1-4, 2 rbi, 1 run, 1bb
      Beltran: 1-4, 1 bb

      and possibly most encouraging:
      Delgado: 2-4, 2rbi

      • Saltzy23 says:

Ill one up you….and get crap for it in the process…

        ST BA’s—Reyes-.313
        Wright-.274
Beltran-.256(eh, on the way up. He 94.2%, so he gets a pass)

Delgado-.231….but again….2-4 today. Up again now….Heyyy….a K…SHOCKING!!!….So what does 2-5, 2 RBI, 2 K mean. It means say hello to ‘07 again is what it means…

BTW, I obviously follow the team religiously…Who the HELL are V. Mendez(CF) or Manriquez(C)…no clue who they are….

        • Another Matt says:

Salomon Manriquez has had many appearances this spring. Mendez and Rivera, not so much.

Looks like we picked up Manriquez from the Rangers, who got him from the Nats, who presumably released him because they stole Flores from us. Small world.

Anyway, he hit .275/.341/.518 in AA last year… nice! His best year by far though, but he’s only 25 so that might be development rather than luck. Hits righty too.

  28. Saltzy23 says:

    Bases Loaded….Beltran up….

Routine fly to CF for 3rd out……..Nuts.

    Still 7-5, Top 9…

More commercials for Marlins tickets…. They still have some available? SHOCKING!

    Heils in to pitch….

  29. zen says:

geez. keith is already complaining about doing the games. he wants to go watch faux news and neil cavuto.

  30. Nate W. says:

so will Victor Mendez or Luis Rivera be todays 9th inning hero?

  31. Saltzy23 says:

    Ballgame…

Clark flies out to end the game….7-5…

Next “MLB” game at Tradition Field…. Spring Training ‘09…

Last Met out dont forget to turn off the lights….
